“This export summit is the second in the series of summits we had planned towards making the state more thriving destination in India in terms of exports. Incidentally, we had successfully conducted an `International Agri and Food Products Expo and Summit’ under the banner `VIBRANT TAMIL NADU’ in August this year. There were 180 stalls showcased producers and manufacturers with over 600 International visitors after we had personally conducted roadshows over 20 countries. Overall, close to 12000 people had attended the 4-day expo and close to Rs. 170 crore export business was committed with repeat orders for over Rs. 800 crore till date,” he added.

The 2nd edition of the VIBRANT TAMILNADU 2019, expo is scheduled to be held at Madurai between 12th and 15th Aug. 2019 at IDA Scudder Trade Centre.

The State and Central Government’s thrust for Agriculture and Food Products, the unveiling of the new policy a few weeks back indicating a doubling of agri exports by 2022 by boosting infrastructure and removal of export restrictions etc are all good signs of the Government’s intentions to grow this industry.

The State has nearly 24,000 food processing firms registered as small and micro enterprises and 1,100 firms as medium and large units. Percentage wise, the numbers are pretty dismal and one of the objectives of EPC is to motivate investors to invest in food processing industries. Tamil Nadu’s overall share in this is a miniscule 2%.

As a first, the EPC on its part has registered a brand name “Agrimine” that is being offered to first time exporters. “The idea is to help them till they create their own brand name free of cost under the Export Handholding Scheme,” he further added.
The summit is also to witness presentation of awards to achievers and launch of `Vibrant Tamil Nadu 2019’, towards gearing up for the activities for next calendar year.
