Director Baba Bhaskar on Kuppathu Raja

If his dance can be glorified as ‘Stress Busters’ by audiences, he has always been entitled as ‘Task Master’ by the topmost actors of our industry. A prompt willingness to deliver highly fashionable choreography in relevance to our native and local flavor had made him most favorite of universal audiences. Choreographer Baba Bhaskar, the man behind the creation of dance for several Chart buster songs turns filmmaker with ‘Kuppathu Raja’.

As the trailer has got an effectual result of being termed as ‘Local’ backdrop, Baba Bhaskar has something to say. “Actually I don’t accept the term ‘Local’ and instead would prefer calling it ‘Nativity’. When people around us are so much spellbound over the nativities of village and neighboring states, ‘Slums’ are indeed the native element of Chennai city,” says choreographed-turned-filmmaker Baba Bhaskar.

While the theatrical trailer of Kuppathu Raja has created a decorous impact spanning boastful views on YouTube, it is evident that the film has a unique plot. Moreover, relating the title ‘Kuppathu Raja’ with the incidents in trailer, it has given a prospectus view that it’s all about the clash between two characters, who wants to be the ‘King’. So is Parthiban playing the negative role and GV Prakash takes on a combat with him? “Too many questions and answering either one of them would be a spoiler,” jokingly says Baba Bhaskar. Elaborating this context, he clarifies, “There is an in-depth story than what we have seen in trailer. Yes, the film owns a package of entertainment along with this premise. If you’re keenly looking out to know about hero and villain, the audience will have to find it out with the movie as it involves some dramatic moments.”

Produced by Saravanan M, Saravanan T and Siraj for S Focuss Production, Kuppathu Raja is scheduled for worldwide release on April 5. The film features GV Prakash, Palak Lalwani and Parthiban in lead roles with Yogi Babu and Poonam Bajwa appearing in an important character. With GV Prakash composing music, Mahesh Muthuswamy has handled cinematography and Praveen KL has done editing.

Janhvi joins Dinesh Vijan’s Rooh-Afza!

After the stupendous success of  Hindi Medium (2017), Stree (2018) and Luka Chuppi (2019)  Dinesh Vijan seems unstoppable!
Maddock Films is slowly and steadily making a mark in telling unusual stories and yet being commercially successful!

Dinesh Vijan known to introduce the genre of horror comedy to the hindi film industry, is all set to bring a spree of films, building an entire universe of it. If sources are to believed he green lit the projects during the inception of Stree itself!

His next venture Rooh-Afza has just announced its newest addition Janhvi Kapoor. The young star, who has made a promising debut last year will be joining the cast of Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma.

Producer Dinesh Vijan says, “For Rooh-afza we needed actors who could jump into their roles with unabashed conviction. Rajkummar and Varun are phenomenal actors, comedy is a space they excel in and own. For the female lead, we needed someone who could portray two contrasting personalities with ease and Janhvi stood out, she really connected with the script. Her talent is still raw, but she is excited about being moulded. The script is young, refreshing and totally crazy, and she is exactly that!”

For a newcomer like Janhvi this sounds challenging and exciting, producer Mrighdeep adds "We took some time to finalize the female lead. Besides being pretty, she needed to oscillate between two characters which are poles apart. You will fall in love with her in one scene and won’t believe she is the same girl in the next one. It's not an easy switch for an actor. It’s the perfect casting"

This would  be a great opportunity for her to showcase her talent, as both characters ( Roohi and Afsana)have contrasting personalities! Takes us back to Chalbaaz days! Sriji had impeccable comic timing and it will be thrilling to see Janhvi light up the screen too.

Shoot starts in Uttar Pradesh this June and the film is slated to release on 20th March 2020. Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba the film is being directed by debutant Hardik Mehta.

“Only a director who understands the whacky world of the film, can make the crazy characters pop out of screen... make them real, despite them being in the most absurd situations. We saw that ability in Hardik. Plus his repertoire is quite impressive.” Explains Mrighdeep

"Hardik is a perfect fit, his national award winning documentary Amdavad ma famous, made me take notice of him. His strength lies in tapping nuances and pulling you into the world of the film.He effortlessly brings realism to bizzare situations. There’s a thin line that connect ours and the supernatural world, and he seems to have the potential to stitch that perfectly!" says Dinesh Vijan

Well Vijan sure has an eye for spotting talent, with debutants Amar Kaushik and Laxman Utekar (Stree and Luka Chuppi respectively) striking gold, it seems this is sure to be a winner too!

Rooh-Afza is a Maddock films production and a Jio Studios and Dinesh Vijan presentation.

Samyuktha Hegde on Watchman

Charismatic looks and power house performances are the rare among the rarest combinations. With few possessing this inherent gift, Samyuktha Hegde has proved to be a proficient artiste with such skills. The actress has already become the favourite of South Indian domain for some of her versatile performances, especially in the Kannada movie ‘Kirik Party’. While her Tamil film ‘Puppy’ is progressing at brisk pace towards release, ‘Watchman’ starring GV Prakash in lead role becomes her first outing to hit screens on April 12.

Much excited Samyuktha says, “Before, I could talk about the movie, I am precisely spellbound over the creative appeal of Tamil film industry. Be its narrative approach or the technical strength, they are incredibly amazing. I might be just 2-films old here in K-Town, but to see both these movies possessing fresh ideas, I feel blessed to be a part of them.” Well, this lets us ask her to opine about the commonality between both the movies – Dog factors. Samyuktha brims herself with smile turned laughter says, “Yes, it’s quite coincidental to share the screen space with my favourite pets. However, both these movies belong to different zones.”

Sharing about her experience working in Watchman, she adds, “It’s totally a brand new experience to me. Director Vijay sir has always been keen on depicting the female artistes in substantial roles. The moment, I was approached for ‘Watchman’, I wasn’t even bothered about what genre or the story could be all about, for I was so much confident that I have something to upgrade myself out here. By the end of film, my assumptions and beliefs proved right and I am so much excited to see the film coming to theatres on April 12, 2019. The actors including GV Prakash have been so much supportive. The technical team is loaded with wizards and the way they have nurtured the film is excellent. It might look exaggerated from my perspective, but am sure audiences will accept it with their movie watching experience.”

Produced by Arun Mozhi Manickam for Double Meaning Productions, the technical team goes inclusive of GV Prakash Kumar (Music), Nirav Shah and Saravanan Ramasamy (Cinematography), Anthony (Editing), A Rajesh (Art) and Manohar Verma (Stunts).

Apollo First Med Hospitals, Chennai Convenes the 8th Edition of BRACHIALCON 2019

Chennai: Department of Plastic surgery at Apollo First Med Hospital, a part of the Apollo Hospitals group will be hosting the 8th biennial meeting BRACHIALCON 2019 between 29th to 31st March in Chennai. Eminent Brachial plexus experts from USA including Dr.Allen Bishop,Consultant and Group Leader ,Mayo Clinic, USA and  Dr. Roger Cornwall, Clinical Director, Orthopedic Surgeon,  Cincinnati Children's Hospital & Medical Centre, will share their experience and expertise in Brachial plexus Surgery with more than 200 delegates from across the globe during the two-day conference.

Department of Plastic surgery at Apollo First Med Hospital specialises in all kinds of Plastic reconstructive surgeries especially Hand surgeries and Microsurgery. The department is known for treating Brachial Plexus complexities through peripheral microsurgical nerve surgeries especially Brachial plexus surgeries. Brachial plexus are a group of nerves that originate in the cervical spine and crisscross with each other in the neck and go down the arm. Injury to the brachial plexus leads to partial or complete paralysis of the limb.

Tamil Nadu has a distinction of being a state with very high road accident fatalities and many more of them being permanently disabled due to injuries like brachial plexus injuries. Majority of the patients are young adults either college going students or in their early stages of their career. A paralysed dominant hand and arm prevent them to go back to the regular work and studies. Apart from the paralysis, some patients develop severe constant excruciating pain preventing them from even carrying out their daily activities. These patients also suffer from depression and other psychological problems.

In a road traffic accident, Brachial Plexus Injury is often missed or wrongly diagnosed as the accident victims most of the time have other serious injuries to the Brain, Spine and chest.  The focus is more to save the life of the accident victim. An accident victim if diagnosed to have injured brachial plexus, early referral to Reconstructive Plastic Surgeons followed by complex microsurgical nerve reconstruction within 2 to 6 months is crucial for good functional recovery.

Brachial plexus disorders is also caused during childbirth affecting new-borns. Injuries of the brachial plexus may be mild, with only temporary sequelae (a condition caused by an injury), or devastating, leaving the child with a drooping, insensate arm. Severity depends on the number of nerves involved and the degree to which each spine nerve is injured.

Speaking during the conference, Prof. R. Venkataswami, (Head and Senior Consultant), Apollo First Med Hospitals highlighted, “There is lack of awareness regarding brachial plexus injuries and treatment. If the patient is not treated within the golden period of between 3months to 6 months following injury, other secondary procedures will only give to sub optimal results.”

Unlike adults, brachial plexus injury in children affects the growth and development of the limb and usually the affected side is smaller than the opposite side. Elaborating on the Brachial Plexus surgery, Dr. V. Purushothaman, (Senior Consultant Plastic Surgeon) Apollo First Med Hospitals, said, “Unlike other surgeries, recovery from Brachial Plexus surgery takes more time to recover. In accident victims, the recovery of muscles and function is slow and takes at least 2-3 years of dedicated and regular physiotherapy to revive full hand functions.  In Paediatric Brachial Plexus injury when spontaneous recovery in Children is often poor, early surgery within 4-6 months of age is essential for good results. We have seen over 200 Paediatric Brachial Plexus cases in the last 5 years” added

In last few decades, there have been many significant advancements in Brachial plexus management mainly due to better understanding of the nerve growth and newer techniques. Complex newer microsurgical nerve by-pass techniques similar to that of cardiac bypass is possible nowadays, where we can assure near normal recovery in partial injuries of brachial plexus. In complete injuries of brachial plexus the consensus is still evolving regarding the best way to manage these patients, this conference will be a platform for the specialists to share knowledge and discuss further advancements in the treatment.
