Ahead of the World Environment Day, the Tree Ambulance team on Tuesday conducted a demonstration program elaborating on how to relocate trees and displayed equipment's used for treating sick trees.

SASA group under the ideation of Green Man of India, Dr. Abdul Ghani, introduced tree ambulance in the city on May 22. It was inaugurated by Vice President of the country, M Venkiah Naidu.

"Starting from tomorrow (June 5), the tree ambulance will travel across all the districts in Tamil Nadu followed by all the states in the country and finally reach New Delhi in two months. In all the destinations, volunteers of the Tree Ambulance team will stop at schools, colleges and other institutions and educate the public on green cover and how to take care of trees," said Dr. Abdul Ghani.

The tour will begin with re-plantation of trees at SAF Games Village in Koyambedu at 11 am.

The services provided by the tree ambulance include first aid treatment, uprooted tree planting, seed bank, seed ball distribution, plant distribution, aiding tree plantation, shifting trees, survey of trees and removal of dead trees. Travelling along with the Tree ambulance is a plant expert and helpers who are armed with gardening tools, water, manure and pesticide.

Abdul Ghani added that while they travel across all the states, they would meet the chief ministers of each state and submit a proposal to start the tree ambulance in their state.

Also, talks are ongoing with the government to install a green siren on the ambulance like the red siren for humans and blue siren for animals. Also, a toll free number would be provided soon.

"In phase two, we will completely automise the process of tree lifting and placing. Currently it is semi-automatic. This should happen by December. Our ultimate goal is to set up a tree ambulance in each district of India and develop strong volunteer community to support this program by 2020," said Suresh Krishna Jadhav, founder, SASA Group.
