Future of Light Water Reactor Technology in India Conference

Rosatom Experts Participated in the “Future of Light Water Reactor Technology in India” Conference



The international conference was organized by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) under the aegis of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) from 11 to 13 November, 2019 in Mumbai.

The event was devoted to questions of future utilization of light water reactors in India to supplement existing plans of construction of heavy water pressurized reactors. During the conference participants discussed issues and possibilities of localization of light water reactor systems manufacturing within the framework of the “Make in India” program, B2B meeting were held to discuss cooperation opportunities with Indian companies.

Rosatom State Corporation experts in their presentations addressed topics on further development of cooperation between Russia and India in the sphere of light water reactors and specific features of their licensing and safety requirements, as well as presented key VVER-1200 safety systems. Also, perspectives of small modular reactors development were discussed.

The event was attended by the heads and management of Department of Atomic Energy, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Homi Bhabha National Institute and other organizations from India and other countries, that are involved in design, building and operations of light water reactors.

Rosatom is technical consultant and main equipment supplier for the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu, India.
