~With
murals, community workshops and curated tours, St+art India initiates the
city’s first art district (and the country’s fifth) in Kannagi Nagar~
On a sunny
evening, St+art India, supported by Asian Paints rolled out ‘Neelam’ – a blue art cart – which is a part of St+art Chennai
2020 Festival. Neelam took to the
streets of Kannagi Nagar for an opne-to-all participative painting workshop
with the residents of Kannagi.
An incomplete construction site with standing
columns and no roof became the stite for this inclusive experiment where they
did a walk-in workshop for everyone to be part of. With lots of paint supplies
– colours, brushes, rollers and containers, Neelam the art cart turned out to
be an invaluable mobile resource for the festival.
As Neelam
rolled through the neighborhood, kids from the locality followed it
through the journey as it made its way to the site to pain the columns with the
St+art team!
St+art
India Foundation and Asian Paints announced the St+art Chennai 2020 festival. Working
with 10 national (including 5 artists hailing from Chennai) and 5 international

the form of murals, workshops and curated tours in the Kannagi Nagar
neighbourhood of Chennai, along with establishing the area as India’s fifth
public art district. The festival will also include a collaboration with the
city’s Palladium Mall with the aim of activating public art interventions in
distant parts of Chennai and connecting the city through contemporary urban art
projects, while Chennai’s very own iconic Typographic installation ‘Namma
