VELAMMAL’S CHILD PRODIGY WINS TITLE
AT CANNES OPEN CHESS TOURNEY

The 13- year old Grandmaster Gukesh D, Class 8  of Velammal Vidyalaya, Mel Ayanambakkam campus   emerged champion  in the 34^th  Cannes Open in  Cannes, France on  22.2.2020 beating Harutyun  Bargseghyan  of the host nation  in the final round to end with 7.5 points.

Gukesh beat the Frenchman in 50 moves to emerge clear winner of this  tournament. 

He won his first open tournament, bagging  top honours in the Hillerod  110^th Anniversary open  event in  Denmark last week.  His brilliance and challenging checkmate made him climb up the higher ratings ladder of the tournament. The school management congratulates his immense potential for consistently creating historical achievements.
