Webinar on six day NWOBE inaugurated ‘Accreditation will enhance the student’s future towards higher education and employability

The six day national workshop on “Perspectives of Teaching and Learning of Engineering Sciences for Outcome Based Education” (NWOBE 2020) under the aegis of AICTE - Margdharshan scheme, was organised by Dr.P.Raja, Dr.M.Venkatakirthiga and Dr.S.Moorthi, Associate Professors and coordinators,Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering,NITT. The program was inaugurated in virtual platform through CISCO WebEx meetings at 9.30 a.m. on 15th June 2020 by Prof. Dileep N. Malkhede, Adviser - I , All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE),New Delhi.





Dr.M.Venkatakirthiga, coordinator welcomed the virtual gathering and Dr.N.Sivakumaran,Chief coordinator,AICTE Margdarshan Scheme briefed on the various activities carried out and initiated for mentee institute.

He said so far eight Faculty Development Programmes were organized in the thrust areas with  participation of faculty members from each mentee institutions,Internships were arranged for B.Tech. Students and faculty members  in various departments for a period of one month,National level workshops were planned to be organized 
through VC mode, one is inaugurated today on NWOBE 2020 and other on ‘Research Methodology for Engineers’ which will be planned to be organized by next month and Shortly we are planning to arrange guest lectures from eminent industries and academician through VC mode on outcome based education.

Dr.Sankaranarayanan,HoD,EEE presented the felicitation address in which he had mentioned that the faculty members of NITT especially from the department of EEE have been involving themselves in online 
content delivery for quiet a long time. He also mentioned that the faculty members have understood the need of the hour and have developed skills to cope with the online mode of teaching and learning process.

Dr.P.Raja, coordinator,said the workshop is articulated to cover the following main themes on Higher Education - A global outlook,Pedagogical Approaches, Accreditation Process. He added that there were more than 110 participants registered from 14 mentee institutions all over Tamilnadu and also there were other participants from Maharashtra. Speakers have been arranged from reputed institutions like IIM Trichy, NIT Trichy, NITTTR Chennai, TLC IITM Chennai, Govt. Arts College Coimbatore and one professor from University of Victoria Canad lifting the workshop to the international arena.



Prof.Mini Shaji Thomas, Director NITT, in her presidential address,she said that the institute had achieved with a major milestone to be part of National Super Computing Mission (NSM), Super Computer,Prime 
Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) Scheme and National MOOCs Coordinator for offering Engineering Courses at UG and PG level by MHRD, GOI.She also mentioned that this online mode of content delivery 
and online platform based interactions are going to be the nature of work in near future.

She added that AICTE Margdarshan Scheme will help to motivate the faculty members to enhance teaching learning skills and students to come up with innovative ideas and projects and widen the exposure to the prototype development on enhanced educational standards and research aptitude.This also facilitates to enhance the preparation of the mentee institutes towards outcome based education.She also thanked the Adviser AICTE for extending his support towards AICTE funded activities which have really helped the institute to move greater heights in various domains. 

She also mentioned about the importance of perception and outcome based education in various ranking forums highlighting that the Institute continues the dream run, moving up the ranking ladder by one slot to NINETH in NIRF ranking 2020 in Engineering category, and maintains the top position 
among NITs for the fifth year in a row! 

Prof. Dileep N. Malkhede, Adviser - I , AICTE,chief guest had inaugurated the first webinar under AICTE Margdarshan Scheme organised by NITT and he appreciated the efforts put in by the faculty members 
and the NITT administration in the recent past for having competing with the top IITs and for securing first position among non-IIT institutions. He also insisted the importance of accreditation upon the student’s future towards higher education and employ ability outside India.He appreciated the role played by NITT in mentoring the 
mentee institutions under the Margdharshan scheme effectively.He also congratulating NITT for having conducted online exams for the outgoing B.Tech. students and he stressed the importance of Outcome based 
Education which is the current expectation from all sectors.He also highlighted the significance of this workshop which would enable the Mentee institutes to prepare for National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in submission and processing of pre-qualifier and submission of self assessment report (SAR).
