Vummidi Bangaru Chetty Family Honored at the Prime Minister's Residence, Celebrating the Symbol of Independence  - The Sengol

The Vummidi Bangaru Chetty family, makers of the Sengol that is now placed behind the Speaker’s chair in the Lok Sabha at the new Parliament building, New Delhi have been felicitated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi celebrating India’s 75th year of independence.

Mr. Vummidi Anil Kumar, a prominent member of the esteemed Vummidi Bangaru Chetty family, returned from a momentous ceremony held at the Hon’ble Prime Minister's residence on May 27th, 2023, filled with extreme joy and honor. The event centered around the remarkable symbol of Independence “The Sengol”. Further, the ceremony has not only recognized the historical importance of the Sengol but also emphasized its relevance and enduring value in shaping India's future.

Mr. Vummidi Anil Kumar takes pride in mentioning that this shop served as the very location for delivering the Sengol to the Adheenams in 1947 and is the oldest premises (Vummidi Dwarknath Jewelers fondly known as the “Corner shop” in Parrys, Chennai) of the Vummidi family having established in the 1920s. This noteworthy occasion amplifies the delight felt by Mr. Vummidi Anil Kumar and family as they have played a vital role in preserving and honoring the place where the legacy of the Sengol began.

Expressing gratitude, Mr. Vummidi Anil Kumar extends heartfelt appreciation to the esteemed elders of the Vummidi Bangaru Chetty family who have played an instrumental role in driving progress and upholding the family's values through the years. Their unwavering dedication and commitment in conceptualizing and creating the Sengol in 1947 is greatly respected.

Furthermore, Mr. Vummidi Anil Kumar acknowledges the pivotal contributions of the family members involved in the re-discovery of the Sengol. Their diligent efforts and meticulous research have culminated in the recognition and celebration of this historic artifact.

The remarkable re-discovery of the Sengol holds immense cultural and historical significance for the Vummidi family and the nation quoted Mr. Aniruddha Vummidi son of Mr. Vummidi Anil Kumar.

The Sengol holds significant historical value as it was presented to India's first Prime Minister, Shri. Jawaharlal Nehru, on August 14, 1947, marking the consequential transfer of power from the British Government to India. Considered a powerful representation of justice and governance, the Sengol has become an emblematic treasure for the nation.

Mr. Vummidi Anil Kumar expresses his wholehearted thankfulness to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi for bestowing this exceptional honor upon him and the Vummidi Bangaru Chetty family.

Mr. Vummidi Anil Kumar and Family (Mrs. Vummidi Aparna Lakshmi - Wife of Mr. Vummidi Anil Kumar, Mr. Aniruddha Vummidi and Mr. Pradyumna Vummidi - Sons of Mr. Vummidi Anil Kumar) take great pleasure and glory in continuing the business from this premises carrying forward their legacy.
