Shiroda voters heavily burdened by Water Scarcity, Unemployment and Financial Crisis, even as Congress' Jan Sampark program led by Diya Shetkar gets a rousing welcome
Congress leaders led by Congress Seva Dal South District Mahila President Diya Shetkar, Block President Sunil Sawkar, Manorai Naik, Mhalu Naik, Hemant Samant, Nilesh Gaunkar, Congress Seva Dal State Media Co-ordinator Flynn Remedios and others got the party's Jan Sampark program going and visited residents across the length and breadth of the constituency.
Residents pointed out acute water scarcity, unemployment and financial problems as their main problems plaguing the area and protested that the earlier MLA has done nothing over the last 10 years to solve these problems. Other problems include very irregular electric supply to most parts of the constituency, no street lights, zero maintenance of roads with potholes and rough roads dotting the entire area and very bad mobile connectivity with absolutely no mobile network in places like Nirankal, Panchwadi, parts of Karai, etc.,
Residents who were visited by Congress leader Diya Shetkar and others including the Shiroda Block President Sunil Sawkar, Nilesh Gaunkar, Manorai Naik, Flynn Remedios, etc., were very critical of the BJP government. "We are totally fed up of this government in Goa," was the common refrain heard in all the households. Residents explained they were fed up of both the former MLAs that Shiroda has had in the past, because they have not provided even the basic necessities like drinking water and electricity to the constituents.
A majority of the residents asserted that they wanted a totally new, young and hardworking face in Shiroda as their MLA in the coming by-elections. We would prefer to vote for an independent rather than vote for old fossils and dismal jimmies who have only looted the State and done nothing much for the people, the residents of Shiroda said.
The Goa Congress Shiroda Block on Friday launched the massive outreach program Jan Sampark to reach out to each and every household in the constituency. The program was co-ordinated and led by the Block President Sunil Sawkar and Congress Seva Dal District Mahila President Diya Shetkar. The aim of the program is the reach out to the individual voter and understand his/her problems minutely and collate data on the issues faced by the people so that the candidate can prepare an appropriate response and give solutions to the people while campaigning in the run-up to the by-polls.
Speaking at the launch, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar said that 'gaddars' have no place in politics and that the people of Shiroda will kick out the 'gaddar' who has betrayed the people of Shiroda.
People in the constituency are so upset with the BJP that it will be reduced to four seats, while Congress will get around 25-26 seats in Assembly elections. In Shiroda, the Congress will surely win hands down, Chodankar asserted.
The BJP-led government has failed to resolve issues of the people in the state and has not fulfilled any promises made during the previous election campaign. “Considering it, people in the state are upset with BJP and, hence, it will be reduced to four or lesser seats whenever Assembly elections are held,” he said. He expressed confidence that his party would win almost 25 to 26 seats in the next assembly elections.
