The 18th Annual Edison Film Awards 2026, honouring films released in 2025 and recognising actors, actresses, directors, music composers, playback singers, and technical experts from the film industry, was held in grand fashion last evening (May 24, 2026) at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, Chennai. More than 40 artistes and technicians from the film fraternity were honoured across multiple categories for their remarkable contributions to cinema.

The prestigious ceremony was graced by several Guests of Honour and special dignitaries, including Malaysia’s Deputy Minister Ramaraj, diplomats from Russia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Spain, along with eminent industrialists A2B Srinivasan, Leema Rose, and several distinguished personalities from various fields, making the occasion even more memorable.

One of the key highlights of the evening was the introduction of a new award category in the name of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay. Edison Awards Committee Chairman Selvakumar announced that, beginning next year, a special award carrying Vijay’s name will officially be instituted and presented as part of the Edison Film Awards.


Another major announcement at the event was the launch of the “Edison Millionaire Club.” Speaking about the initiative, Selvakumar- CEO & Chairman of Edison Awards, stated that the club has been envisioned to introduce and expand the Edison Awards across multiple countries while bringing together entrepreneurs and business leaders from around the world. He further noted that the initiative would serve as a platform to elevate Tamil cinema on the global stage, fostering stronger international connections for the industry.


Among the major winners of the evening, Dhruv Vikram won the Best Actor Award for Bison, while Mari Selvaraj received the Best Director Award for the same film. Rio Raj bagged the Best Entertainer of the Year Award for Aan Paavam Pollathathu. Playback singers Sanjana Kalmanje and Ravi G won Best Female Playback Singer for Vazhithunaiye (Dragon) and Best Male Playback Singer for Thangapoovey (Madharaasi) respectively.


 Swasika won the Best Character Role (Female) award for Maaman, while Vijay Velukutty was recognised as Best Editor for Good Bad Ugly. Arjun Das received honours for Best Antagonist for Good Bad Ugly.


 Young talents Pavish Narayan (Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam) and Anishma Anilkumar (Sirai) won Best Debut Actor and Best Debut Actress respectively. 


The Jury Awards segment witnessed several distinguished honours being presented to accomplished personalities from Indian cinema. Dato Radha Ravi was honoured with the “Lifetime Excellence Award.” Actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar won the “Dynamic Performer Award” for Phoenix and The Verdict, which was received on her behalf by her mother Chaya.


 Singer Saindhavi received “The Voice Beyond Boundaries Award,” while folk singer Anthony Dasan was honoured with the “Voice of Tradition Award.” Veteran actor Thambi Ramaiah received the “Veteran Performer Award” for Muthal Pakkam. 


Several award winners expressed their heartfelt gratitude, thanking Edison Awards Chairman and CEO Selvakumar and the jury members for the recognition. Many described the honour as a prestigious milestone in their artistic journey, acknowledging the Edison Film Awards for consistently recognising and celebrating cinematic talent over the years.


This year’s edition once again reaffirmed the Edison Film Awards’ legacy of honouring excellence in Tamil cinema, while simultaneously opening new avenues to take the industry’s achievements to a wider global audience.
