The sacred dawn hymn Shri Venkatesa Suprabhatham, one of the most revered compositions in Indian devotional tradition, was unveiled in a new contemporary rendition featuring acclaimed young vocalist Uthara Unnikrishnan. It was released on May 20 on platforms like Jio Saavn, Gaana, Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music, Insta Reels, Tik Tok etc. The lyric video will be released on May 23 on Rajshri Soul YouTube Channel.

Widely popularised by the legendary M. S. Subbulakshmi, the hymn continues to hold a timeless place in spiritual practice, and this new interpretation seeks to honour its sanctity while engaging today’s listeners through a refreshed musical approach.

Originally composed in the early 15th century by Shri Prathivadhi Bhayankaram Annangaracharya, the Suprabhatham has been reimagined in this version with music composed by Prithvi Chandrashekar and produced by Sandeep Reddy of Sea Records for Rajshri Soul YouTube channel. The project aims to preserve the devotional depth of the original while presenting it through a contemporary soundscape that resonates with modern audiences.

At the heart of this rendition is Uthara Unnikrishnan, a Carnatic vocalist and playback singer known for her versatility across classical, film, and fusion genres. Trained from the age of six under Dr. Sudha Raja, and further guided by her father, renowned vocalist P. Unnikrishnan, Uthara brings a strong foundation in both Carnatic and Hindustani traditions, shaped under the mentorship of eminent gurus including Pandit Nagaraj Rao Havaldar and Kaushik Aithal.

Uthara made a remarkable entry into playback singing with the song 'Azhage Azhage' in the film 'Saivam' (2014), composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar. The song earned her the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer, making her the youngest recipient of the honour for a debut film song. She further gained acclaim for 'Nadhi Pogum Koozhangal' from Pisasu, composed by Arrol Corelli, reinforcing her reputation as a soulful and expressive vocalist.

Over the years, Uthara has received numerous accolades, including the Tamil Nadu State Film Award, Filmfare Award South, SIIMA Award, Vijay Award, Mirchi Music Award, and recognition from various cultural institutions such as the Shanmukhananda Sabha and Bharath Kalachar, which honoured her as “Yuva Kala Bharathi.” She has also been recognised as one of Reliance Foundation’s “Unstoppable 21” young achievers for 2025.

Through this new rendition of Shri Venkatesa Suprabhatham, Uthara Unnikrishnan continues her artistic journey of bridging tradition and contemporary expression. The project stands as a devotional offering that seeks to preserve the essence of the timeless hymn while ensuring its relevance and resonance for present and future generations.
