Actor Raghav, who has made a strong impression through memorable roles in films including Enthiran, Nanjupuram, Velayudham and Kalyana Samayal Saadham, is now gearing up for the release of his next film, BEEP.

Directed by Il. Shanmuga Sundar, BEEP is a crime thriller that promises an intriguing experience for audiences.

With the film set to hit screens soon, Raghav opened up about the concept of the film, his character, the challenges he faced during filming and his aspirations as an actor.

Speaking about the title BEEP, Raghav said:

«“Whenever something is cut out because it is not meant to be heard or spoken, we hear a ‘beep’. In that sense, the title can represent the unsaid and the unheard — the voices and truths that have been deliberately cut off.”»

He further explained that BEEP explores several subjects that are usually left unspoken.

“We have touched upon many things that are generally not spoken about. It is essentially a crime thriller designed to play with — and challenge — the expectations of the audience,” he said.

One of the most interesting aspects of the film, according to Raghav, is its protagonist.

“The hero has a kind of superpower, but he is not Superman,” he explained. “Some people can instantly solve complex four-digit multiplication problems. In a similar way, our protagonist possesses a unique ability. What makes it interesting is that we have explored what a ‘superpower’ would actually look like if it existed in a normal, real-life world.”

Talking about his character, Raghav revealed that none of its mannerisms came from his own imagination.

“Everything about the character was created by the director. My job was to bring his vision to life on screen. Even my wife was surprised after watching the film and told me that the director had presented me in a completely different way,” he shared.

While BEEP features only two songs, Raghav believes that the background score plays a much bigger role in shaping the film’s experience.

“Since this is a crime thriller, composer Prashanth Vihari’s background score has become the soul of the film. Particularly after the interval, his music plays a crucial role in driving the narrative forward,” he said.

Raghav also had a special request for audiences not to dismiss the film simply because it comes from a new filmmaker.

“Don’t overlook the film just because it is made by a debut director. If you settle into the story and give it your attention, even for a while, I am confident that the film will offer you some major surprises,” he said.

According to him, BEEP also offers audiences the excitement of becoming part of the investigation themselves.

“When you watch a crime thriller, there is always the fun of getting involved in the story — trying to calculate, connect the clues and figure out what is happening before the film reveals it. BEEP has that kind of engaging experience for the audience,” he added.

A Dangerous Descent from the 17th Floor

Raghav also recalled one of the most challenging sequences he performed for the film.

“For an important scene, I had to be suspended by ropes and descend from the 17th floor down towards the 10th floor. It was an enormous challenge. But sometimes, you have to take that kind of risk for a film,” he said.

Speaking about the kind of roles he wants to explore in the future, Raghav said he is drawn towards characters that challenge him.

“If a role comes to me and feels like something I can easily do without any challenge, where is the excitement? I am interested in characters that make me feel confident enough to attempt them, while also creating a small doubt within me — ‘Can I really pull this off?’ That is what makes a role exciting for me.”

The actor also revealed a long-standing desire to play a powerful antagonist.

“For a long time, I have wanted to play a villainous character like the one Arvind Swamy played in Thani Oruvan. I have also written a few scripts of my own, and I hope to bring those stories to life as films someday,” Raghav concluded.
