Xiaomi Reaffirms Commitment to

Xiaomi Reaffirms Commitment to Data Security and Privacy

Xiaomi, the world's leading consumer electronics and smart manufacturing company, recommitted itself to protecting customer data during its annual Security and Privacy Awareness Month completed today. It held employee training events and expert seminars at the Xiaomi Technology Park in Beijing, China and at Xiaomi's Technology Operation Center in Singapore.

This was the third consecutive year that it held special classes for its engineers and other employees and led discussions with industry executives, IT security experts, and the public about the importance of data security and user privacy protection. Xiaomi also released updated white papers on security and privacy along with its annual transparency report detailing its data security activities.

The purpose of the month-long series of events was to bolster its user security and privacy protection practices and to build trust in Xiaomi’s products through transparency and accountability.

Xiaomi has built a comprehensive governance structure to protect data security and user privacy. This involves cooperation between cybersecurity experts, smartphone operating system engineers, lawyers, and legal compliance experts. Overseeing these specialists is a Security and Privacy Committee led by senior executives.

Cui Baoqiu, Xiaomi Vice President and Chairman of the Xiaomi Security and Privacy Committee, called data security and user privacy protection a key to the long-term, sustainable development of the company's global business. "Protecting the data security and privacy of our users is the top priority,” he said. “Our customers care about this issue more than any other. Xiaomi is committed to offering safe and reliable Android smartphones and IoT products."

Eugene Liderman, Director of Android Security Strategy of Google, highlighted Xiaomi's contribution to the Android system. "One of Android's biggest strengths is the diverse ecosystem of partners. Xiaomi is a great example of this and it's great to see their continued investment in cyber security hygiene across their product portfolio", he added.

Professor Liu Yang, School of Computer Science and Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, said, "As the security challenge is becoming the focus of many technology discussions, industry stakeholders attach more importance to the urgency of managing vulnerabilities at hardware, software and even in the massive open source space. Xiaomi has made tremendous effort to address the issue, safeguarding users with technology expertise, and continuously exploring new methods for better data protection."

With the world's largest consumer IoT platform, Xiaomi is constantly working to improve IoT security and privacy protections. Xiaomi held its fifth annual IoT security summit on June 29 and 30 in Beijing. Industry executives and experts discussed a wide range of issues from data security governance frameworks and cross-border data transfers to the security of internet-connected electric vehicles and solutions for software supply chain security threats.

During the June event, Xiaomi announced that its Electric Scooter 4 Pro obtained IoT Security Rating Gold level certification from Underwriter Laboratories Inc, an international safety research institute based in the U.S. This designation made Electric Scooter 4 Pro the world's first electric scooter with such a high-level safety rating. The certificate also indicated that the security baseline of Xiaomi's IoT product development is in line with international standards.

Xiaomi created its Security and Privacy Committee in 2014. In 2016, Xiaomi became the first Chinese company to receive certification from TrustArc. Xiaomi adopted the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of European Union compliance assessment in 2018. In 2019, Xiaomi security and privacy practices were certificated on ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27018. Last year, Xiaomi published its first transparency report, making it the first Android smartphone brand to do so. Xiaomi this year obtained the certificate of registration of NIST CSF (National Institute of Standards and Technology, Cybersecurity Framework), further strengthening its data security protection capabilities.

Robin Hood Army to vaccinate 1.5 lakh underprivileged citizens & serve 5

Robin Hood Army to vaccinate 1.5 lakh underprivileged citizens and serve 5 million meals in collaboration with WhatsApp, Uber and Google

31 July-15 August 2021 | 150,000 vaccinations | Serve 5 million meals | 28 States

Join the initiative as a volunteer by sending a WhatsApp message to +91 8971966164

Robin Hood Army (RHA), the volunteer-based zero funds organization has joined hands with WhatsApp, Uber and Google to bring together volunteers who will help vaccinate 1.5 lakh Indians and serve 5 million meals to those most affected by the pandemic across every state of India by 15 August 2021

The initiative named #mission28states
is a national effort across 28 states in the country, in which RHA volunteers shall bring together civic society supported by three leading technology firms to address two key challenges facing our nation today – feeding the hungry and ensuring every Indian is vaccinated before a potential deadly third wave. Like every RHA initiative that operated on a no-funds approach, all the support brought in by the technology partners will be used to achieve #mission28states throughout India.

Speaking on the occasion, Neel Ghose, Founder, The Robin Hood Army said, “The pandemic has been devastating for lakhs of families and widened inequities across our communities. Whilst the government and administrations are doing their best, it's important that civic society steps up and contribute our talent and resources. In the lead up to our Independence Day, this year through the support of WhatsApp, Uber and Google for the #mission28states, Robins will mobilise 1.5 lakh people to get the COVID- 19 vaccine and at least 5 million meals across every state of India between 31 July-15 August 2021. At the Robin Hood Army, we are stoked to bring together civic society and leading technology partners together to undertake this massive effort to increase outreach against COVID-19 and create impact across every state in the country.”

The #mission28states will be executed in three parts:

  • Rations and Vaccines: Thousands of Robin Hood Army volunteers, called ‘Robins’ will drive awareness campaigns and organize 1.5 lakh citizens to be vaccinated across 28 states. In addition, during this period, Robins will also serve at least 5 million meals to the most needy. The focus of drives shall be on serving citizens who have least access to vaccines - homeless families, the transgender community, rural inhabitants among others.
  • Technology Partners: Robin Hood Army’s chatbot, to solicit volunteers, is powered by WhatsApp; people from across the country can now sign up as volunteers and join the mission seamlessly using just their mobile phones.
  •
  • As the national mobility partner, Uber is providing the wheels to this mission whereby it will deploy thousands of free Uber rides for the volunteers to mobilize people to vaccination centres and distribute meals while Google will provide more than a millions of meals which will be served to those affected by the pandemic.
  • Media: Robin Hood Army has partnered at local and national levels with radio stations, billboard companies, influencers, media houses, and digital groups to mobilize local communities and broadcast the urgency of the national vaccination program.

Speaking about the RHA initiative, Abhijit Bose, Head of WhatsApp India, said, “WhatsApp has been an integral medium for civic actors like Robin Hood Army, to reach Covid-19 relief efforts to people, at scale. In line with WhatsApp’s vision for India, to contribute meaningfully and build solutions where needed the most, we are inspired to support Robin Hood Army further by powering a WhatsApp chatbot solution that helps to solicit volunteers for #mission28states, that is aimed at bringing relief to the impacted communities during this unprecedented pandemic.”

Speaking on this initiative, Prabhjeet Singh, President, Uber India and South Asia, said, “We’re thrilled to be joining forces with our valued partner, the Robin Hood Army, for supporting the #mission28states campaign. It will be an honour for us to join the war against Covid across India. At Uber, we are committed to ensure mobility is not a barrier to timely vaccination of the underserved communities and for fighting crippling hunger amidst those, worst impacted by the pandemic. Working together, we can help our communities to recover faster and reboot the economy.”

Cuemath Partners with Google for education to

CUEMATH PARTNERS WITH GOOGLE FOR EDUCATION
TO EMPOWER TEACHERS AND STUDENTS

  • More than 1000 students have already received the certificates of completion.
  • Cuemath plans to expand to 5,000 plus students and more than 100 teachers by the end of this year.

The digital transformation of the education sector has only increased since the onset of COVID-19, causing a paradigm shift in the way technology is used to accelerate learning for a whole younger generation in innovative and interactive ways.  Cuemath, a global after-school math and coding program for K-12 class has recently partnered with Google for Education to help transform the teaching and learning experience.

As part of the partnership, Cuemath teachers and students will be given a Google for Education certificate. Teachers will be given a Google Certified Educator Level 1 Certificate, and students who take a 12 to 18 months Cuemath program will be awarded the Google CS First Creator Coder Certificate.

In addition to this, Cuemath is undergoing a curriculum development, keeping in line with its expanding global footprint. The company has been successful in ensuring that technology is used effectively across the curriculum by all learners. Additional features such as story-based

concept videos, interactive simulations, and interesting whiteboard activities would keep the students engaged and interested, and hence they would be intrinsically motivated to continue with the program.

Speaking on the partnership, Manan Khurma, First Teacher and Founder & CEO of Cuemath said, “Cuemath’s essence lies in adaptive learning platforms, learning management systems, smart classroom solutions and collaborative platforms in order to make children natural at Math. Our partnership with Google for Education will ensure that students get the best opportunity to gain knowledge and build on capabilities that focus on real-world skills. This step only strengthens our resolve and takes us one step closer to making every child great at math by building their potential as intuitive, productive and insightful citizens of tomorrow”.

“The primary objective of Cuemath is to develop mathematical thinking, out of box thinking, and creativity in students. These are high-priced skills that are deemed necessary for success in the long run. When math is taught visually, by distilling the core principle, we are able to chunk the concept in the student’s mind, and they are then able to apply the concept in a new context. They see math as a power and begin to love math,” added Manan Khurma

Google for Education offers four levels of certifications for educators - Level 1, Google Certified Educator Level 2, Google for Education Certified Trainer, and Google for Education Certified Innovator. To get started in the certification journey, teachers must pass the Level 1 exam by completing 15 hours of study in addition to activities, which include a three-hour-long examination.

Meanwhile, Google’s CS First curriculum will be taught to students who are participating in Cuemath’s coding program. Designed for students ages 9-14 of all interests and experience levels, students will learn collaboration and core coding concepts as they create their own projects with easy-to-use lesson plans, tutorials, activities, and resources.

The Google for Education certificate for educators will not only help Cuemath’s teachers to advance in their professional development, but also engage more with the students through technology. Teaching CS First lessons will also help to ensure that every student has access to the collaborative coding and technical skills that will unlock opportunities in the classroom and beyond, no matter what their future goals may be. More than 1000 students have already received the certificates of completion, and Cuemath plans to expand to 5,000 plus students and more than 100 teachers by the end of this year.
