Dancer-Actor Radica Giri showcased her performance this Margazhi season at Brahma Gana Sabha on 12th January. She performed a margam of curated pieces that included a Pushpanjali on the river Ganga, a Swarajathi from the traditional Thanjavur Quartet, a Bhakti-soaked piece on Lord Murugan and a thillana choreographed by Guru Kalaimamamni KJ Sarasa.

A lover of the classical dancer since a very tender age, Radica Giri had the good fortune of coming under the tutelage of the doyenne of the Vazhavoor Bani Kalaimamani KJ Sarasa. A passionate dancer she has followed the practice of this art form with sedulous devotion. She has acted in Bharathi Rajaa’s Nizhalgal as the heroine while still in school and then as heroine with Prabhu in Oruvar Vazhum Aaliyam while in college. She married her childhood sweetheart and migrated to the US.

There, she returned to her true love - dance. She imparts education of this beautiful art form to over 100 students and performs extensively. In 2014, inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s Chitrangada  - a love epic of a warrior princess and the Pandava Prince Arjuna. Vaikom Vijayalakshmi sings for Gandhiji

‘Welcome Back Gandhi’ Song Release by Sri. V. Kalyanam, the only surviving Personal Secretary of Mahatma Gandhi

Sub: press release about release of Tagore song rendered by Vaikom Vijayalakshmi for ‘Welcome Back Gandhi’ film.
‘Ekla Chalo Re…..’ is a Bengali patriotic song written by Rabindranath Tagore in 1905.
Mahatma Gandhi was deeply influenced by the powerful words of the song (If no one responds to your call, then go your own way alone……). He cited it as one of his favourite songs. The song has been, time and again, used by several famous music composers like A.R.Rahman and Vishal-Shekhar and has been sung by many a famous singer like Kishore Kumar and also by Amitabh Bachchan for different patriotic projects. During freedom struggle, when Mahatma was on Noakhali Yatra in West Bengal, people welcomed him by singing this song.

The song is now incorporated in the film, ‘Welcome Back Gandhi’ (Hindi & English), produced by Ramana Communications, Chennai, whose earlier film  ‘KAMARAJ’ won ‘Special Film of the Year Award’ from Government of Tamil Nadu.

We felt that this song, in the voice of Vaikom Vijayalakshmi for our film ‘ Welcome Back Gandhi’, would be a fitting tribute to the Father of the Nation on his 150th Birth Anniversary. The background scenes for the song have already been picturised in various locations in different parts of India visited by Gandhi.   The picture is complete now. Kindly arrange to carry this news in your  newspaper and media
