JAIN (Deemed-to-be) University to host Khelo India University Games 2021

~CM Yediyurappa and Union Sports Minister says Khelo India University Games will see massive success~

Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri BS Yediyurappa and Hon’ble Union Sports Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju announced that Karnataka will be the host state for the second Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2021, scheduled later this year. The games will be hosted by Bengaluru's JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), in partnership with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

KIUG is the largest University Games in the country and is aimed at harnessing sporting talents who can represent India in international events, including the Olympic Games. In this, the second year of the KIUG, Yogasana, and Mallakhamb has been added, with an emphasis to preserve and encourage the century-old sporting disciplines of the country. With the inclusion of these disciplines this year, it is expected that the athlete participation figure will cross 4000. This year also, the games will be conducted in the under-25 age category in accordance with the World University Games norms.

Speaking about being the host state and assuring the best possible support for the games, Shri Yediyurappa said, “We are honored to be hosting KIUG 2021, and we are confident that the Games will produce some of the best future sports champions of India. The Govt. of Karnataka will ensure that University games turn out to be a massive success.”

Foreseeing even larger participation this time around, Shri Rijiju said, “Countries that have great sporting performance have often forged their sporting heroes from the University level. In India, we need a sustained, concentrated effort and plan to identify talent from Universities. This year, with the inclusion of indigenous games to the competition, we are hopeful that the number of participants will see a marked increase.”

Speaking about the partnership with KIUG, Shri Baljit Sekhon, Joint Secretary, AIU said, "KIUG is a clear path to Olympic glory for our athletes beginning from the University level. AIU is proud to partner with KIUG and we will also be having AIU's National-level competition at KIUG this year."

 LAUNCHING OF FRUITS PORTAL - AN INITIATIVE OF E-GOVERNANCE DEPARTMENT, GOVERNMENT OF KARNATAKA

 

A function was organized on 22 December 202 , wherein the “FRUITS”(Farmer Registration and Unified Beneficiary Information System) Portal, a project of e-Governance, Government of Karnataka was inaugurated.

 

Delivering the key note address, Ms. A. Manimekhalai, Executive Director, Canara Bank, observed that Karnataka State Government has always been in the forefront of technical initiatives to improve the ease of Banking as can be seen from the various initiatives like BHOOMI Package, Debt Waiver Portal and currently, the FRUITS Portal.  The FRUITS Portal is integrated to the BHOOMI Package of the Karnataka State for fetching and validating the land details.  One other important facility of this Portal is online creation of charge by which visit of farmers to Sub-Registrar Office is avoided. She thanked the Karnataka State Government and NABARD for identifying our Bank for launching the pilot project and assured that they will take all necessary steps to make the Project, a success.

 

 

Speaking on the occasion, Sri Rajeev Chawla, Additional Chief Secretary,e-Governance, Government of Karnataka informed that this is the latest initiative from the Government of Karnataka to bring all the farmers in the State with land and other details to a single Portal.  In this Portal, all the farmers will be registered and given a FID Number.  Using this number, the Financial Institutions and Lending Institutions can access the land details of the farmers as well as their borrowings and take a quick decision on lending to the farmers depending on their requirements.  It is hoped that Bankers will find this initiative, a very useful one.  He also lauded Canara Bank for agreeing to take up the Project on a pilot basis.   Once the same is found successful, all other Financial Institutions will be brought on to the Portal so that at one place, all the data pertaining to the loans of the farmers will be available.

 

Sri NirajVerma, Chief General Manager & Head of Karnataka Regional Office, NABARD informed that NABARD is always in the forefront to enable improvements in the living standards of farmers by taking initiatives in various fronts such as providing refinance at cheaper rates to Societies and RRBs etc.  He also informed that FRUITS Portal is the first of its kind in the country wherein the land and other details of all the farmers in the State are being captured and he hoped that this Project should serve as a role model to other States in the country.  Karnataka, being the IT Hub of the country, always had tech-enabled initiatives and this FRUITS Portal is one such proposal from the Government.  He also appreciated Canara Bank for accepting the pilot Project and hoped that soon all financial institutions will be onboarded to the Portal so as to have a single data source of the farmers. He thanked Department of e-Governance, Government of Karnataka for spearheading this initiative.

 

The gathering was welcomed by Dr K U Viswanathan, General Manager, NABARD and vote of thanks was proposed by Sri K.R. Badrinath, Deputy General Manager, Canara Bank.

2 bags of convalescent plasma flown from Bengaluru to Srinagar

IndiGo, in its bid to support the country in its fight against the pandemic, created the first ever blood plasma corridor to save the life of a patient suffering from COVID-19. The plasma units were transported on IndiGo CarGo from Bengaluru to Srinagar via connecting flights. The plasma was first flown from Bengaluru to Delhi on 6E 363 followed by the connecting flight from Delhi to Srinagar 6E 2486. The plasma sustained a transit period of over 8 hours and was delivered successfully at the government hospital in Srinagar today. IndiGo is the second airline in the world to have transported plasma successfully onboard CarGo.

Shri B. Sriramulu, Hon'ble Minister, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Karnataka speaking on the occasion, applauded the efforts of the IndiGo Team who assisted the medical team to achieve this feat on ground and in air! He emphasised the 4th T in the implementation strategy for COVID is Teamwork (5T -Trace, Test, Treat, Teamwork and Training). “It was a proud moment that Karnataka is leading the way to show how we can save lives by flying that extra mile.”

The creation of the first air corridor in India to transport blood plasma can have a huge positive impact on the treatment of COVID-19 patients through plasma therapy. Dr. Vishal Rao, Associate Dean, HCG Cancer Hospital said, “At a time when the medical community is looking at possibilities to save lives of seriously ill COVID-19 patients, plasma therapy is one of the promising lines of treatment being explored. HCG Plasma bank has been able to cater to hundreds of needy critical patients. The creation of a successful air corridor opens up new possibilities for the treatment of patients with COVID-19 with plasma from anywhere in the country. We would like to thank Captain Rahul Srivastava, IndiGo CarGo team and BIAL in helping us save lives by making this possible.”

This was the first instance in the country, where two convalescent COVID Plasma bags were transported in CarGo from Bengaluru to Kashmir for critical COVID-19 patients. Recently, an inter-state green corridor - over a 348-km stretch for 4.5 hours - was created to transport convalescent plasma from HealthCare Global Cancer Hospital in Bengaluru to a private hospital in Chennai on August 04, 2020. Recently the US FDA has authorised the use of plasma therapy. It’s use in moderate, severe and critical illness can yield results of upto 100%, 80% and 60% respectively. Earlier intervention with plasma therapy in patients would be ideal to save more lives.
