In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital India vision to connect every Indian with an open, safe, trusted and accountable internet, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar- Minister of State, Electronics and Information Technology, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India in presence of Shri S S Ahluwalia, Member of Parliament Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha will be inaugurating two new Internet Exchange points (IXP) of NIXI at Durgapur and Vardhman. It’s an initiative under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) vision of 1000 days.

 

The first Internet Exchange in the state of Kolkata is also run by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI). It is now expanding its footprint in the state by launching the two new Internet Exchange Points at Durgapur and Bardhaman. The inauguration will be at The Citi Residenci, City Centre, Durgapur.

 

The launch of these new NIXI internet exchanges in state will contribute to the enhancement and improvement of Internet and Broadband services at local level and in neighbouring regions. The internet service providers connecting at these points will benefit as their broadband services to their end users will improve, bringing about a change in the lives of the people of the region. Opening of these new IXPs will benefit every sector of the state ranging from health, education, agriculture, startup, ecosystem to MSMEs & other business verticals. Accessibility and convenience will increase for citizens in terms of availing government benefits and improving quality of life. The 2 new Internet Exchange nodes from NIXI are certain to boost the state’s Internet ecology.

 

In order to improve the overall Indian internet ecosystem and give internet users access to it at a low cost with improved speed, NIXI plans to install such internet exchanges in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities in the near future. All Internet Service Providers are invited by NIXI to establish peering at any of its nodes and support the domestic Internet ecosystem. Taking Digital opportunities to tier 2 / 3 cities is an article of faith for Narendra Modi Government. It is our duty to ensure that the power of internet empowers all with an approach - ‘No one is left Behind’, said Rajeev Chandrasekhar in a statement issued through a release.

National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) organized a webinar on “The Role of Country Code Top-Level Domains (ccTLDs) in Achieving Universal Acceptance”.

Sh. Anil Kumar Jain, CEO NIXI launched the Webinar by thanking the participants and the panellist. He also emphasized the need for Universal acceptance and NIXI’s key role in achieving it.

NIXI initiated Universal Acceptance (UA) for .in registry, the registry allows all domain operations using an IDN in U-label form since March 2019. The registry has both ASCII and U Label for IDNs in lookups to confirm that translation between two forms is providing to the Registrar so that there is clarity as to what the DNS record would appear like a Registered IDN.

Mr. Sarmad Hussain, Sr. Director IDN & UA Programs, ICANN was the key speaker in the webinar. He explained the role of the ccTLD manager and public sector during his presentation.  Mr. Hussain also discussed the internet reach in achieving local language and the integration of Email Address Internationalization (EAI).

There were more than a hundred participants who attended the webinar, and some participants were from other countries as well.

Dr. Ajay Data, Chair of Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG) was also part of the panellist group. He gave his insights regarding the importance of the UA in internet space and also addressed the questions asked by some of the participants.

National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), GOI, and Indian Community has initiated to promote UA adoption, and support in various sectors like - Web Designers, Email Providers, Mobile Apps Developers, Content Generators and provide training through workshop and awareness campaign.

NIXI is putting effort to promote UA in a numerous ways:

·      Free IDN Domain with every .in domain and to academia.

·      Local language website contest and Wikipedia contest.

·   Awareness and Presence on social media in various languages.

·      Financial help to small website developers in the adoption of UA.

·      Participation in UA local initiatives.

o   UA Task Force in NIXI to support UA Readiness.

o   Helpdesk for helping email providers, web designers, software community to guide the adoption of UA.

Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Ajay Prakash Sawhney today inaugurated three path-breaking initiatives for the National Internet Exchange of India, NIXI. These initiatives are IP Guru, NIXI Academy and NIXI-IP-INDEX.  The IP Guru is a group to extend support to all the Indian entities who are finding it technically challenging to migrate and adopt the Internet Protocol version, IPv6. In addition to this, the group will help in identifying and hiring an agency that will help end customer by providing necessary technical support to adopt IPv6.

The NIXI Academy has been created to educate technical and non-technical people in India about technologies like IPv6 which will lead to better management of Internet resources in the country. The NIXI-IP-INDEX portal has been launched to showcase the IPv6 adoption rate in India and across the world.

 

 

The details of the three new initiatives are as below:

 

1. IPv6 Expert Panel (IP Guru) (https://nixi.in):

IP Guru is a group to extend support to all the Indian entities who are finding it technically challenging to migrate and adopt IPv6. In addition to this, the IPv6 expert group will help in identifying & hiring an agency that will help end customer by providing necessary technical support to adopt IPv6. This panel will guide all such Indian entities and help in increasing IPv6 adoption. It’s a joint effort of the DOT, MeitY & community to promote IPv6. The expert panel group comprised of members from government and private organizations.

 

 

 

2. NIXI Academy (https://training.nixi.in):

NIXI Academy is created to educate technical/non-technical people in India to learn and relearn technologies like IPv6 which is normally not taught in Educational Institutes. The easy-to-use platform helps network operators and educators understand networking best practices, principles and techniques; manage Internet resources better; and use appropriate Internet technologies more effectively. NIXI academy comprises of IPv6 training portal is developed with the help of various technical experts in order to provide mass training to the community. Through this academy our Internet community will be able to learn from various technical modules. The successful candidate (after passing the examination) can take a certificate from NIXI, which will be useful to find/upgrade job in the Industry.

 

3. NIXI-IP-INDEX (https://ipv6.nixi.in):

NIXI has developed an IPv6 index portal for the Internet community. NIXI-IP-INDEX portal will showcase the IPv6 adoption rate in India and across the world. It can be used to compare IPv6 Indian adoption rate with other economies in the world. NIXI will populate this portal with web adoption in IPv6, IPv6 traffic etc. in the coming days. This portal will motivate organisations to adopt IPv6, provide inputs for planning by technical organisations and research by academicians.

National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) has been honoured by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for Excellence in Financial Reporting 2019-2020 under the ‘Service Sector’ Award category.

 

The award was given by Hon. Sh. Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Government of India. On behalf of NIXI, the award was received by Mr. Anil Kumar Jain, CEO NIXI along with General Manager Finance and General Manager Business Development

 

As announced by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), this honour was presented in recognition of the highest degree of compliance, statutory guidelines, regulations, and disclosures manifesting exemplary excellence in the presentation of financial statements.

 

NIXI is of the strong opinion that effective financial reporting plays an integral role in accelerating the Economic Growth of the country as vivid and reliable financial statements assist the stakeholders and management in taking strategic decisions.
