India’s largest airline, IndiGo, becomes a member of IATA


  • The membership will help IndiGo align to global practices developed by IATA and further strengthen the airline’s partnership portfolio
In-line with the vision to expand its international presence, IndiGo, India’s leading airline, today joined IATA as a member. The announcement followed soon after the airline’s recent expansion into Vietnam, Myanmar, China and Saudi Arabia. IndiGo is currently an IOSA registered airline and IATA Clearing House member. IATA is the global trade association for the airline industry, representing over 290 airlines. This membership will help IndiGo align to global practices developed by IATA and will further strengthen the airline’s partnership portfolio.

One of the fastest growing low-cost carriers globally, IndiGo, has redefined air travel in the country over the last 13 years with its affordable, on-time, courteous and hassle-free flying experience. Having flown more than 300Mn happy customers, the airline currently operates close to 1500 daily flights to 60 domestic and 23 international destinations, with a fleet of 247 aircraft. IndiGo has been further strengthening its position with rapid domestic and international expansion this year. The airline has been recognised at various Indian and global platforms for its focussed L&D, consistent on-time performance and stupendous growth.

IATA’s mission is to ‘represent, lead and serve the airline industry’. As the trade association for the world’s airlines, IATA represents more than 290 airlines or 82% of total air traffic. With over 60 offices worldwide, IATA maintains relationships with governments and other industry stakeholders around the world, advocating on behalf of its members on key industry issues. The organization supports many areas of aviation activity and helps formulate industry policy on critical aviation issues.

IndiGo inaugurates flights to Ho Chi Minh City

IndiGo inaugurates flights to Ho Chi Minh City, its 2nd destination in Vietnam

  • The inaugural flight connecting Kolkata and Ho-Chi-Minh City landed today at 1550 hrs (local time)
 In its bid to expand international operations, IndiGo, India's leading airline, commenced operations to Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC or Saigon) from Kolkata. The airline inaugurated the first direct flight on Kolkata-Ho Chi Minh City route, making Ho Chi Minh City IndiGo’s 22nd international and 7th Southeast Asian destination, after the launch of Hanoi earlier this month.

Mr. William Boulter, Chief Commercial Officer, IndiGo said, “We are excited to inaugurate our flights to Ho Chi Minh City, which holds immense potential for both business and leisure travellers. The city offers a mix of ancient architecture, war history, blend of cultures and trade opportunities for everyone. In our endeavour to connect more international destinations with key Indian cities, we are confident that this route will be a step towards promotion of trade, tourism and mobility between the two nations”.

Mr. Boulter further added, “We have again received a very encouraging response on this route after Hanoi. CDB Aviation Delivers First of Nine A321neos to IndiGo

  • Companies join Airbus in celebrating delivery of its 1,000th A320neo family aircraft

CDB Aviation, a wholly owned Irish subsidiary of China Development Bank Financial Leasing Co., Limited (“CDB Leasing”), announced today the delivery of the first of a fleet of nine Airbus A321neo aircraft to India’s leading airline, IndiGo, as part of a purchase and leaseback transaction. The aircraft also marks Airbus’ 1,000th A320neo family aircraft delivery, signifying a historic milestone for its best-selling single aisle fleet. 

“We are very pleased to be part of this important delivery, providing support to our partners at IndiGo in advancing their strategic position in the fastest growing aviation market,” said Sign Kadouh, CDB Aviation Head of Commercial, Asia Pacific. “The versatility of the A321neos will provide the right capacity for IndiGo’s growing fleet, delivering superior performance and economics. We look forward to deepening our relationship and supporting the IndiGo management’s vision to be India’s leading airline.”

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Ronojoy Dutta, CEO, IndiGo, said, “We are delighted to add another A321neo in our fleet as we continue to expand our domestic and international operations. As IndiGo continues to increase connectivity across its network, the A321neo aircraft, equipped with the Pratt & Whitney PW1133G turbofan engines and configured with a 222-seat layout, are expected to generate lower operating costs, while availing the carrier of the advantages of reduced environmental impact and enhanced passenger experience. CDB Aviation anticipates the remaining eight aircraft to be handed over by the end of January 2020.

Separated by the Bay of Bengal, united by IndiGo; 6E inaugurates flights between India and Myanmar

  • The inaugural flight connecting Kolkata and Yangon landed earlier than expected today at 1405hrs

 As part of its international expansion plans, IndiGo, India’s leading airline today commenced its operations to Myanmar. The airline inaugurated its first direct flight on Kolkata-Yangon route, making Myanmar the fifth Southeast Asian country in IndiGo’s network. Mr. William Boulter, Chief Commercial Officer, IndiGo along with Mr. Kyaw Mayo, Yangon’s Union Minister of Transport and Mr. Saurabh Kumar, the Indian Ambassador, were present amongst senior officials of the Yangon Airport to receive and welcome the passengers of the first flight.

Mr. William Boulter, Chief Commercial Officer, IndiGo said, “We are delighted to commence our operations to Myanmar, with the first flight landing in Yangon today. Myanmar hosts a large Buddhism community and it is our privilege to enable direct connections between Buddhist circuits of the two nations. Yangon being the largest city in Myanmar, we believe that increased connectivity between India and Myanmar will enhance cultural exchange and social cohesion between the countries”.
