 IndiGo strengthens regional network with Kanpur as its 71st domestic destination

·         Kanpur will be IndiGo’s 10th new regional destination in 2021

  IndiGo, India’s leading airline announced Kanpur as its 71st domestic destination and 10th new regional destination this year. The airline will offer direct connectivity between Kanpur-Delhi effective October 31, 2021, and direct flights between Kanpur-Hyderabad, Kanpur-Bangalore, and Kanpur-Mumbai from November 1, 2021. IndiGo is committed to strengthening regional connectivity, while making air travel more accessible and affordable. 

Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Chief Strategy and Revenue Officer, IndiGo said, “We are pleased to announce Kanpur as our new domestic destination, bolstering our regional connectivity. Kanpur, known for its leather and textile industries is one of the prime industrial centres in North India and the ninth-largest urban economy in the country. Owing to the increase in direct connectivity with metro cities, these new flights will boost trade, commerce, and tourism in the region. In addition, customers would get convenient connections to the rest of the IndiGo network.  We will continue to offer new routes as per the travel demand across various sectors. IndiGo is committed to providing an affordable, on-time, safe and hassle-free travel experience onboard our lean clean flying machine.”

Kanpur is IndiGo’s 7th station in the state of UP, after Lucknow, Varanasi, Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Agra, and Bareilly. IndiGo will provide direct connectivity from Kanpur to major metro cities in India. Including these new additions, IndiGo will now offer 120 daily flights to and from the state of Uttar Pradesh. The increased connectivity in and out of Uttar Pradesh will help the economic and tourism growth.

-        Service going live for IndiGo customers on August 11, 2021

  In line with its vision to provide hassle-free travel experience, IndiGo, India’s leading carrier, has introduced priority boarding facility for its customers. This new service will allow customers to board their flights on priority, while avoiding longer queues at boarding gates. The customers can book this service on IndiGo website, mobile app or via the call centre during the booking process or add it later through the My Bookings portal at a nominal cost of INR 400 per passenger per flight. The service will be available on domestic travel between metros initially and will be opened for entire domestic network in a phased manner.

 Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Chief Strategy & Revenue Officer IndiGo said, “At IndiGo, we are always striving to enhance the travel experience for our customers. The priority boarding will not only help customers save time at boarding gates, but also ensure comfort for families and senior citizens. In order to support the government-led mass vaccination programme, IndiGo, India’s leading carrier, has launched a special discount on IndiGo flights for vaccinated customers from June 23, 2021. The customers who have been administered either one or both the COVID-19 vaccine doses, can avail a discount of up to 10% per cent on the base fare while booking. IndiGo is the first airline to roll out this offer in India.

Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Chief Strategy & Revenue Officer, IndiGo said, “Being the largest airline in the country, we feel it is our responsibility to contribute to the national vaccination drive, by encouraging more people towards this common goal. This offer will not only strengthen their resolve towards vaccination, but also ensure that they can travel safely at affordable fares with IndiGo. We are committed to offer an on-time, hassle-free travel experience to our customers, on-board our lean, clean flying machine”.

The offer is only available to vaccinated passengers aged 18 years and above, who are located in India at the time of booking and have already received a Covid-19 vaccine in the country. Passengers who have availed the offer at the time of booking shall be required to furnish a valid Covid-19 vaccination certificate, issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. Alternately, they can display their vaccination status on the Aarogya Setu mobile application at the airport check-in counter/boarding gate.

Limited inventory is available under the offer and therefore, discounts will be provided subject to availability of inventory. This offer cannot be clubbed with any other offer, scheme, or promotion. Strengthening domestic connectivity, IndiGo, India’s leading airline launched daily direct flights connecting Pune to Chandigarh and Indore, effective March 15, 2020 and May 01, 2020 respectively. The airline is the first to launch daily direct connections from Pune to Chandigarh and Indore after competitors withdrew their direct flights last year. The introduction of these flights will further bolster the airline’s domestic connectivity.

IndiGo receives IATA membership certificate


  • Certificate received by President and COO, Wolfgang Prock-Schauer in Gurgaon today
 In-line with the recent announcement of IndiGo joining IATA, the airline received its membership certificate today in Gurgaon. Conrad Clifford, Regional Vice President for Asia Pacific, IATA presented the certificate to Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, President and COO, IndiGo at their office premises in Gurgaon. The membership will help IndiGo align to global practices developed by IATA and further strengthen the airline’s partnership portfolio.

IndiGo recently announced a one-way codeshare with Qatar Airways and partnered with Turkish Airlines in December 2018 to expand its international presence. As part of its expansion strategy, IndiGo entered into new markets including Turkey, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, China, Myanmar and Vietnam in 2019, commencing operations to multiple cities in each market.


At the occasion, Mr. Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, President and COO, IndiGo said, “This is a strategic milestone, as the airline steers its focus towards international expansion. Being a member of IATA will help IndiGo grow its network faster by building relationships with other airlines, after the recently announced codeshare with Qatar Airways and almost a year-long successful partnership with Turkish Airlines. IndiGo Abroad with the airline’s new brand campaign

-          Launches brand campaign with its quirky creatives, for first-time travellers
-          Offers promotional fares across its international destinations starting Nov 03  

 India’s leading airline, IndiGo, launched its new integrated brand campaign ‘IndiGo Abroad: Happy to be your first’ today, to stimulate travellers to explore newer destinations for short and medium -haul international travel at affordable fares. The campaign aims to introduce Indian travellers to new and unexplored 6E destinations to encourage first time international travellers and experiential travellers to look beyond the regular international destinations, for their next trip abroad with IndiGo. The airline launched flights to Turkey, China, Vietnam, Myanmar and Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

As part of this campaign, IndiGo has used quirky creatives that tug our emotions when we travel, with the backdrop of the most scenic locations in its international network. The passengers in the creatives showcase the innumerable experiences and emotions during their first international trip and how IndiGo has been their partner, by making international travel accessible and affordable. Some of the creatives like ‘My first time was very educational’, ‘My first time? Three weeks long’, ‘Our first time? This summer’, connect to real life people, bringing relatability to the campaign. 6E inaugurates flights between India and Myanmar

  • The inaugural flight connecting Kolkata and Yangon landed earlier than expected today at 1405hrs

 As part of its international expansion plans, IndiGo, India’s leading airline today commenced its operations to Myanmar. The airline inaugurated its first direct flight on Kolkata-Yangon route, making Myanmar the fifth Southeast Asian country in IndiGo’s network. Mr. William Boulter, Chief Commercial Officer, IndiGo along with Mr. Kyaw Mayo, Yangon’s Union Minister of Transport and Mr. Saurabh Kumar, the Indian Ambassador, were present amongst senior officials of the Yangon Airport to receive and welcome the passengers of the first flight.

Mr. William Boulter, Chief Commercial Officer, IndiGo said, “We are delighted to commence our operations to Myanmar, with the first flight landing in Yangon today. Myanmar hosts a large Buddhism community and it is our privilege to enable direct connections between Buddhist circuits of the two nations. IndiGo launches Belgaum, its 58th domestic destination


Commences its daily direct flights between Belgaum and Bangalore today

 Strengthening connectivity within South India, IndiGo, India’s leading airline, has started operations between Belgaum and Bengaluru. The new route will be serviced by the ATR-18 aircraft. Belgaum was announced as IndiGo’s 58th domestic and 77th overall destination.
