Carnatic Awards 2023 on 15th June, 2023 honoured 4 eminent women with life-time achievement awards at a formal event held in a city hotel, to recognize phenomenal work done by them in their field of profession & service to the society.

Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic is part of the Rotary International District 3232 which comprises of all the Rotary Clubs in the Greater Chennai Metropolitan area.

The Award:

Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic is honoured in awarding a unique set of individuals the lifetime achievement awards. This year all the awardees were eminent Ladies of Chennai.  These ladies have attained the highest glory in their respective professions and have impacted lives of thousands of people over the years. The Chennai Carnatic Awards were instituted in the year 2015 and have been recognizing people in the field of business, entertainment, social work, defence, public service and sports.

Brigadier Muthulaxmy (Retd. from Indian Army)

Born and brought up in a remote village in Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, she volunteered to join in the Indian Army at a very young age and posted as Nursing officer in Military hospital at Allahabad. During the Indo-Pak war in 1965, she was posted as Front-line officer in Amritsar and besides alleviating injured soldiers’ pain, she also had to keep the hopes alive and console the bereaved families. She was applauded for her grit as young girl from a remote village in Tamil Nadu working far North of India. She was also posted in Bangladesh during the war. Besides attending casualties of Jawans, she also extended her service to civilian girls especial in the gynaecological attention. In 1986 during Sri Lanka war, Brig. Muthulaxmy were brought to the Military hospital in Chennai. Her service continued and she was recognised with the Chief of Army Commendation during this period. She also served in the Delhi Army Hospital and post-retirement, continued her studies and secured graduation in Commerce & later secured graduation in Law. Continued her service to supporting widows of Army Jawans, she enrolled herself in the Bar Council of Chennai & Pondicherry, she continued to serve as Advocate & Notary public. Her service to the Nation and people for 3 decades, she was awarded Chennai Carnatic Award by Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic.

Sabita Radhakrishna

Sabita is a columnist, journalist, play-writer, textile revivalist, cook book writer and broadcaster. She also did the translation of legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan's autobiography. She has lent her voice for over two decades to mainstream media and has hands-on experience in textiles for four decades. She is a lyricist and authored a fact-fiction novel titled “Looms of Arivoor". She believes that British rule and mechanisation led to the fall of Indian handloom craftsmanship. She ventured into founding 'Amrapali' and enticed women into wearing handlooms. She also ensured support with funds to mitigate sufferings of handloom weavers during the pandemic. She was bestowed with Chennai Carnatic Award by Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic for her phenomenal efforts in the field of art & craft, as an individual and social entrepreneur promoting traditional craftsmanship and livelihood of craftsmen.

Commander Gauri Mishra

Well educated Gauri with a postgraduation in Commerce, diploma in logistics & supply chain management, Masters in business administration (MBA) in finance and contract management module from ICWAI; she went on to pursue her career in the Defence. Commander Gauri Mishra joined the Indian Navy, lead the contingent in the Republic Day Parade in Delhi and received commendation by the Chief of the Naval Staff. She was also a member of the Indian Navy's Sky-diving team. She was a role model & inspiration for many women joining the armed forces and her continuous effort motivating young girls speaking to them, promoting gender equality and has been empowering the underprivileged. The veteran soldier had excelled in her education, career and balanced work as proud wife of a soldier and mother of a boy. For her relentless and undaunting efforts, being an inspiration to thousands of Indian girls and to the glorious achievements made by her, Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic proudly presented Carnatic Awards to Commander Gauri Mishra.

Jigyasa Giri

Jigyasa Giri evolved from an astute Kathak dancer to a choreographer to passionately swaying through the life of teaching. She has performed dancing and staged her students across theatres around the world, she follows her motto "Be the spark of change". She chooses to give the world a positive spin through dance. Chennai Carnatic Awards was to reaffirm her life-time achievement in the field of teaching & promoting positivity through dance form. She also involved in various social service initiatives and raised funds through dance performances.

The Awards nights chairman is Rtn.Rajram.M.U and all the awardees were felicitated by the President Rtn.Vanitha Srihari and thanked by Secretary Rtn.Deepa Jammi.  Each awardee was given a plague and citation.  The citations were read by the senior members of the Club.

 Jawa Motorcycles proudly partners with Indian Army for the ‘Dhruva Kargil Ride 2021’

 

Shortly after the launch of Khakhi and Midnight Grey colours of its Jawa model as a tribute to the 50 years of 1971 war victory, Classic Legends has commenced a series of celebratory rides in association with the Indian Army. The ‘Dhruva Kargil Ride’ (#DhruvaKargilRide) is the first in this series and celebrates the 22^nd ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ as well as the 75^th year of Indian independence.

 

The Dhruva Kargil Ride saw a total of 75 Jawa motorcycles led by the new Khakhi and Midnight Grey colours leading the pack with riders from the Indian Army, spread across four groups.  The main ride was flagged-off from Dhruva War Memorial by Subedar Sanjay Kumar, PVC under the aegis of Headquarter Northern Command in Udhampur, comprising of 25 riders on Jawa motorcycles led by Lt. General YK Joshi, (UYSM, AVSM, VrC, SM, ADC) GOC-in-C, Northern Command, who rode all the way up to the finishing point at Kargil War Memorial in Drass. 

Alongside this main ride, subsidiary rides were flagged off from Naushera, Srinagar and Karakoram Pass completing a count of 75 motorcycles to mark 75 years of India’s Independence. All four groups converged at Kargil War Memorial, Drass to further participate in the Kargil Vijay Diwas 2021 on July 26^th.

 

Commenting on this association, Lt. General YK Joshi said, “The sacrifices made by the soldiers of Indian Army are not only remembered but also recognised to inspire the current and the future generations. Therefore, this effort of ours, the Dhruva Kargil Ride, is to remember the fallen heroes during Operation Vijay and also to revive, rekindle and reinvigorate the spirit of patriotism amongst the youth. We are excited that Jawa Motorcycles has come forward to partner with us on this ride and this gesture adds to the enthusiasm of the participating riders. We also recognise the efforts of the company under its Forever Heroes initiative towards the welfare of armed forces personnel.”

This ride marks Jawa Motorcycles’ second initiative to the ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ celebrations along the year. To offer a tribute to the 50th Anniversary of the 1971 war victory, Jawa Motorcycles recently launched two new colours – Jawa Khakhi and Midnight Grey that honour the spirit of bravery, service and sacrifice of the Indian Army. The colours resonate with the spirit of the army and what also makes these motorcycles truly unique is the commemorative emblem that proudly features the prestigious Indian Army insignia flanked by a ‘laurel wreath’ symbolizing the 1971 victory.

 Ahead of India’s 74th Independence Day, AirAsia India has announced the RedPass initiative for the armed forces in recognition of their contribution as the strongest pillar of the nation, supporting democracy and security. In keeping with the long-standing commitment to nation-building, AirAsia India will offer 50,000 seats on flights on the domestic network as part of the initiative. In addition to the free flight, guests will also enjoy priority boarding and priority baggage.

In June, at the height of the initial response to the pandemic, AirAsia India had announced the AirAsia RedPass initiative offering a goodwill trip for doctors across the country, which received an overwhelming response. In recognition of their sacrifices and long stints away from their homes, to ensure that we are safe in ours, AirAsia India now proudly extends the AirAsia RedPass to all Indian Armed Forces including the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Paramilitary Forces and Under Trainee Cadets. AirAsia India is also extending the RedPass to dependants and retired Indian Armed Forces personnel in recognition of their sacrifices. It is our turn to #PassOnTheGoodwill by helping them fly back to their homes with the AirAsia RedPass.

The defence personnel can submit their details on https://air.asia/GCs2R which is also available in the airline’s website, www.airasia.com, starting Aug 15 until Aug 21, 2020, to book their flights for travel between 25 September and 31 December, 2020. Once the application is reviewed, details will be sent to the applicant on the redemption process on any domestic flight operated by AirAsia India. The AirAsia RedPass will be valid for a one-way flight for which the reservation is required to be made at least 21 days prior to the date of departure.

Flipkart extends support to Sadbhavana Project of the Indian Army

Students visit its state-of-the-art warehouse in Bangalore under the Confidence Building Exercise

  Flipkart, India’s homegrown leading e-commerce marketplace, recently offered the use of its state-of-the-art warehouses in Bangalore to the Indian Army for conducting a Confidence Building Tour for college students of Jammu & Kashmir’s (J&K) Reasi District. The Tour was a part of the Sadbhavana Project by the Indian Army, under which it is carrying out various programs to strengthen knowledge building and upliftment of the youth of J&K. It aimed to inform youngsters of the economic growth possibilities in the country. Fifteen students along with Indian Army Officers visited the Flipkart warehouse and learnt about the key supply chain functions and how technology is leveraged to connect and deliver to the farthest of places in India.

Said Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Flipkart, “As a socially responsible organization we are honoured to have been able to extend support to the Indian Army’s initiative to help provide learning opportunities to the students of the J&K region.
