“Within two minutes I decided to cast Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Balasaheb Thackeray’’ – Sanjay Raut

 Thackeray, based on the life of the Shiv Sena Supremo - Balasaheb Thackeray, saw its newly released trailer trending on YouTube, with over 10 million hits. Firebrand Journalist-MP and man behind the film, Sanjay Raut, divulged that the casting for the role of Balasaheb took barely two minutes.

“Once while I was traveling, I watched Freaky Ali, where Nawazuddin Siddiqui played a golfer. I had already seen it before but I started watching it again, only to realize that Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s face can be made to look like Balasaheb,” said Sanjay Raut, who is also the writer of the film.

Sanjay Raut averred that before casting Nawazuddin Siddiqui, he wanted to see his style and gestures. In a matter of moments, Sanjay Raut was convinced. “I called him at a hotel and I observed his style and gait. And within minutes, I told him that I am making the ‘Thackeray’ biopic and he is playing Balasaheb Thackeray,” continued Sanjay Raut.

Thackeray is slated for a worldwide release on January 25, 2019, Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the Shiv Sena Supremo alongside Amrita Rao who will portray Meenatai Thackeray. Thackeray is directed by Abhijit Panse, presented by Sanjay Raut, produced by Raut’ers Entertainment LLP, Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Carnival Motion Pictures

Carnival Cinemas, the multiplex chain in India is spicing up with the most popular snack chain, Shiv Vada Pav. The multiplex chain has recently integrated the snack into its FNB (Food and Beverages) list making it consumption-available across 72 properties in India.

Launched by Balasaheb Thackeray and the patrons of Shiv Sena Party, Shiv vada pav was launched in 2009 for generating employment for Maharashtrian youth. The trailer of the much-awaited biopic on Balasaheb Thackeray has already created storm across verticals, Carnival Cinemas, on the other hand, takes pride to introduce Shiv Vada pav into its business plan.

‘Thackeray’ narrates the life journey of the Late Balasaheb Thackery who like a true leader fought for equality for his fellow Maharashtrians. He initiated Shiv Vada pav teaching the unemployed youth how to make the vada pavs and earn living for themselves. Carnival Cinemas now have these vada pavs available at its FNB (Food and Beverages) counters and is thrilled by the association with the brand ‘Thackeray’.
