In line with its vision for sustainability, IndiGo has been replacing its old fleet with the fuel efficient neo aircraft. The airline took the delivery of the 2000^th A320neo family aircraft on Tuesday, which follows two years after the airline also received the 1000^th A320neo aircraft in 2019, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. The IndiGo aircraft MSN10654, an A321 neo, produced and delivered in Hamburg, Germany.

At the occasion, Mr. Ronojoy Dutta, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo said, “IndiGo was early to recognise the fuel efficiency and performance of the A320neo family, which resulted in large orders for neo family aircraft. The vision was not only to increase the efficiency, but also the sustainability of the fleet. IndiGo took delivery of the 1,000th A320neo Family aircraft produced in 2019 and just two years later is taking delivery of the 2,000^th aircraft. This continued induction of Neo family aircraft despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, is a testament to the airline’s unrelenting commitment to sustainable aviation and the fuel efficiency of the A320neo Family.”

IndiGo is the world’s largest customer for the A320neo Family with orders totalling 730 aircraft. Since its first NEO was delivered in March 2016, its fleet of A320neo Family has grown into the world’s largest with 187 aircraft operating alongside 61 A320s and 34 ATRs. In an extremely competitive aviation market, the fuel efficient A320 Family has been instrumental in IndiGo’s rise to become India’s largest airline by fleet size and passenger numbers.

The A320neo programme was designed with fuel efficiency in mind. Building on the A320ceo’s popularity, the aircraft delivers 20% reduced fuel burn as well as 50% less noise compared to previous generation aircraft. Seating up to 240 passengers, depending on cabin configuration, the A320neo Family features the widest single aisle cabin in the sky and incorporates the very latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklets.

Aequs, a diversified contract manufacturing company, has inducted two industry veterans and thought leaders into its Board of Directors.  Aequs established India’s first Aerospace focused SEZ and recently it expanded its manufacturing ecosystems into the Toys and Consumer Durable Goods sectors.

 

Dr. Klaus Richter, former Airbus and BMW procurement head, and currently President designate of the Executive Board at German technology conglomerate, Diehl Stiftung GmbH & Co., brings to the Aequs Board a deep understanding and experience in global supply chains.  His area of expertise is critical given emerging industry priorities in the wake of the Pandemic where supply chain players must rapidly adjust to a new normal with evolving customer expectations and the geopolitical situation. Credited with introducing car making strategies at Airbus, Aequs will leverage his expertise to do the same in other industry sectors it is expanding into.  

 

Dr. Shubhada M Rao, founder of lead research house QuantEco, and former Senior Group President & Chief Economist at YES Bank. She complements the Board with her insights into the banking, financial markets, and risk management that will be invaluable for sound and informed decisions in relation to investment options and resource management. Her domain expertise and knowledge of the Indian economy will be critical as Aequs forays into consumer durable goods sector.

Dr. Klaus Richter has specialized in developing strategies for supply chain management, setting them up and making them global. Until 2019 he was Chief Procurement Officer at Airbus Operations GmbH, Germany, and a member of Airbus Executive Committee.  Before joining Airbus, Klaus was Head of Materials Management at BMW.

 

Dr. Shubhada Rao brings with her over 30 years of experience in academia and industry. Before setting up QuantEco, and her stint at YES Bank, she worked as Chief Economist with marquee financial sector entities like Kotak Institutional Equities, CRISIL and Times Bank and as an Economist with the Risk Department at Bank of Baroda. She has advised several central banks including the US Federal Reserve, the Bank of England, Bank of Canada on the Indian economy.

 

The expansion of the Aequs Board comes at a time when the group has set out on an ambitious growth path. Apart from establishing the Aerospace ecosystem at Belagavi, Aequs is founding two additional ecosystems, the Koppal Toy Manufacturing Cluster (KTC), and the Consumer Durable Goods Manufacturing Cluster (HDC), at Hubballi, both firsts of their kind in India. The two manufacturing ecosystems, when complete, are projected to provide direct employment approaching 40,000 people in the region.

Airbus has doubled down on its response to the COVID-19 crisis in India, delivering more than 36 tonnes of additional medical equipment to the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and deploying humanitarian flights to move supplies from abroad as well as within the country.

Airbus is delivering oxygen plants, ventilators, oxygen concentrators, BPAP breathing machines and mobile intensive care units (ICUs), further boosting its individual contribution to the global humanitarian effort to tackle the second wave of COVID-19 infection in India. An A350 test aircraft delivered a part of the consignment comprising oxygen concentrators and ventilators from Airbus’ headquarters in Toulouse, France, on Wednesday. The remaining materials are sourced from India. 

The latest mission is Airbus’ second tranche of support to the country. The Company has already contributed with funds to a consolidated response coordinated by the French embassy in India, which included the delivery of eight large oxygen generators, ventilators, electric syringe pumps, anti-bacterial filters and patient circuits as part of a 28-tonne consignment. Much of the equipment has been deployed, and it is helping save hundreds of lives across India.

The latest contribution from Airbus comprises two oxygen generator plants, 250 oxygen concentrators, 30 ventilators, 100 BPAP breathing machines and four ICUs-on-wheels. Airbus is working with the Indian government and the IRCS, the nodal agency for handling of international aid, to ensure the smooth deployment of the materials.

Additionally, the Airbus Foundation is in touch with international and Indian NGO partners to support any need for transportation of relief materials from Europe. Airbus Foundation has also secured helicopter flight hours to move aid within India.

“The crisis is still unfolding. Its fallout will have to be managed over the coming many months,” Maillard said.

“Our Indian NGO partners are already evaluating the knock-on impact of the crisis on livelihoods and children’s education. Airbus will expand support to them to meet the additional challenges.” 

IndiGo Selects CFM’s LEAP-1A Engine and

IndiGo today announced that it has selected CFM International LEAP-1A engines to power its fleet of 310 new Airbus A320neo, A321neo, and A321XLR aircraft. This agreement includes 620 new installed engines and associated spare engines, as well as a long-term, multi-year service agreement.

In 2019, IndiGo selected LEAP-1A engines and signed a long-term service agreement for engines to power 280 A320neo family aircraft.  This new agreement, therefore, secures the LEAP-1A engine and its long-term service agreements for a total of 590 IndiGo A320neo family aircraft.

The airline is currently operating seven A320neo and 15 A321neo with LEAP-1A engines. This agreement will secure LEAP-1A engines and service agreements for itsA320neo family aircraft to be delivered from 2023 onwards.

BOC Aviation Limited (“BOC Aviation” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce that it has signed purchase-and-leaseback agreements with InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (“IndiGo”) for eight new Airbus A320NEO aircraft. The aircraft will be powered by CFM Leap engines and are scheduled to be delivered in the second half of 2021.

Airbus has signed L&T Technology Services (LTTS) as a partner for its Skywise Partner Programme, providing access to its collaborative digital solutions platform, Skywise that unleashes potential and increases usability of data to create impactful, high quality solutions with a shorter time to market. Airbus introduced the Skywise Partner Programme in 2019.

The India-based company is the latest to join the programme, and an ecosystem of Airbus customers, partners and suppliers who collaborate to extract data from a common pool, to develop solutions for predictive maintenance, planning and digital services for airlines.

Airbus will showcase a wide selection of its advanced sustainable aerospace technologies and services at the prestigious ‘Aero India 2021’ exhibition to be held in Bengaluru from February 3 to 5, 2021.

The display will include Airbus’ cutting-edge innovative products along with its customer services and training capabilities. A section will be dedicated to highlight the company’s strategic local industrial partnerships focused on developing a sustainable aerospace ecosystem in the country.

Airbus will exhibit at Stand B.2.6 in Hall B. On display will be scale model of the C295 – medium transport aircraft and there will be digital display of the A330 MRTT – Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft. From Helicopters, there will be scale models of the H225M – the combat-proven multi-role helicopter and the AS565MBe Panther – the all-weather, multi-role force multiplier. A special attraction will be the S850 Radar on a digital platform, a high-power satellite offering extensive SAR capabilities, including the monitoring of a high number of targets with frequent revisits and enhanced performance in a single pass.

Airbus announces Rémi Maillard as the President of Airbus India and Head of South Asia

Airbus has appointed Rémi Maillard as President of Airbus India and Managing Director of South Asia region, effective September 01, 2020. Rémi, currently Head of Airbus Services, will succeed Anand Stanley who will move to Singapore as President, Airbus Asia-Pacific. Both report directly to Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International of Airbus.

In his new role, Rémi will lead Airbus’ business in South Asia. He will be responsible for commercial aircraft sales and business development, and he will manage Airbus’ regional footprint, which includes engineering, innovation, customer support and services as well as training. He will also help progress Airbus’ top defence and helicopters campaigns and boost the company’s ‘Make in India’ programmes. 

As Head of Services, Rémi has been responsible for growing the Airbus commercial aircraft Services business and overseeing maintenance, upgrades, flight hour services, and training operations with a focus on creating value for customers and enhancing their operational performance.

“Rémi has rich experience in the Airbus organisation and is the right person to take on the lead of the company in India and South Asia - a region that is both a key growth market as well as a resource base for us. His skills and personality will contribute to further consolidate Airbus’ strong position in the region,” said Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer, Airbus and Head of Airbus International. “I warmly thank Anand for strengthening the local footprint of Airbus here and look forward to continuing working with him in his new role in the Asia Pacific region,” said Scherer.

Rémi, 40, joined Airbus in 2008 and has held several leadership roles. He started his career at Airbus Helicopters, leading a transformation programme for the company’s Research and Development activities. Rémi then served as the Chief Engineer of the Tiger programme before playing a key role in the development of the H175 programme and its Entry-into-Service as the Chief Engineer. 

He also held the position of Head of Development Chief Engineers, spearheading engineering activities for major helicopter development programmes. Prior to joining Airbus, Rémi worked as an Associate Director with a consulting firm specialising in industrial strategy. Rémi holds degrees in Engineering and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris.
