Ohmium ships its first “Made in India” Hydrogen electrolyzer unit to

Ohmium ships its first “Made in India” Hydrogen electrolyzer unit to the United States,  establishing India as the global hub for hydrogen

  • With R&D centers in Silicon Valley (US) and Bangalore (India), Ohmium aims to make India a nucleus for global hydrogen-based green energy solutions
  • Ohmium’s India-based Gigafactory manufactures Modular-Interlocking Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) hydrogen electrolyzers
  • Ohmium’s products enable customers to achieve maximized value for their emission free transportation, energy, and industrial projects and operations

Ohmium International, through its Indian subsidiary, has shipped its first unit of electrolyzer from India to the United States, as a first step towards establishing India as a global hub for green hydrogen generation. The electrolyzer has been manufactured by Ohmium at its Bengaluru plant, India's first green hydrogen electrolyzer Gigafactory. This was set-up to ensure the availability of end-to-end solutions within the country and reduce dependency on imports for this key equipment (electrolyzer). This development comes as a breakthrough for the startup’s ongoing mission in alignment with the nation’s ‘Make in India’ and net-zero emission commitments.

As announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the recent Climate Summit (COP26) in Glasgow, green hydrogen is a key component of India’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions. India aims to alter the present state of play wherein its entire hydrogen production comes from fossil fuels. It was also reiterated by the COP26 Energy Transition Council (ETC) that an instant and just transition to clean energy would be critical in meeting the Paris Agreement goals. India has voiced its keenness to scale up green hydrogen and mandate its use in industries like petroleum refineries and fertilizer industries. This push towards decarbonisation will lead to several investments in innovation across energy efficiency, renewable energy and emission free green hydrogen.

The first shipment of a product is a big moment for any company. This is especially exciting for Ohmium as well as all of our suppliers in India because it proves beyond a doubt that both manufacturing and technology excellence in the field of green hydrogen generation are in India’s wheelhouse.  We feel that when we export Ohmium products from India we are pushing the boundaries of the Honorable Prime Minister’s “AatmaNirbhar Bharat” and “National Hydrogen Mission” – in a good way – by expanding the global impact of these programs,” said Arne Ballantine, CEO & Co-Founder, Ohmium.

We are seeing significant activity in India and around the world in green hydrogen projects.  Ohmium is constantly working towards providing innovative, scalable, profitable, flexible, and safe solutions which can be leveraged to achieve competitive levelized costs of hydrogen, supporting the growth of India’s economy. We are confident of Green Hydrogen as the fuel of the future owing to its enormous potential, numerous applications across sectors and a zero-carbon footprint. Currently, our factory has a manufacturing capacity of approximately ½ GW per year, and we can rapidly expand it to 2 GW per year to facilitate India's accelerated transition to clean energy systems,” said Ahmad Chatila, Chairman, Ohmium

Biophore ramps up Made-In-India Favipiravir production for Covid-19

Receives approval in Turkey
Has manufacturing capacity to meet all local and global commitments

Hyderabad-based Biophore India Pharmaceuticals has announced that it has successfully completed the validation of favipiravir and scaled-up its production. Favipiravir is the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) that can be used in the finished formulation of an antiviral drug approved by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for mild to moderate cases of Covid-19.

Biophore has received the DCGI license to manufacture the API in India and has been cleared for export as well. It has also received approval in Turkey in collaboration with a local Turkish partner. Additionally, the company is in talks with several Indian partners to commercialize the product in India and with Bangladesh and Egypt-based companies for its export.

Dr. Manik Reddy Pullagurla, Founder and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of Biophore, says, “The Covid-19 pandemic has emphasized the need for pharmaceutical companies to step up and develop effective solutions quickly, without compromising on safety. We have ensured that our favipiravir meets the highest standards of quality. Our manufacturing facilities comply with US and EU regulations and we have stringent internal impurity controls and quality checks to ensure that. Meeting favipiravir needs in India is our priority, and we have the capacity to scale up production of favipiravir to meet local requirements, without compromising on our export commitments.”.

Favipiravir is an antiviral agent that was initially discovered and developed because of its activity against
another RNA virus, the influenza virus. Apart from India and Turkey, it has already been approved for use against
Covid-19 in Russia and parts of the Middle East
and advanced stage trials are currently underway in other
parts of the world.

Dr. Jagadeesh Babu Rangisetty, CEO at Biophore, says, “In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to Make in India, and become vocal for local I am proud to say that Biophore’s favipiravir is 100% Made in India. This is what sets us apart from many other suppliers of this API. We are not dependent on any imports to produce favipiravir. All starting materials and complex intermediates are either sourced locally or have been developed in-house for use. We are confident that this API will help our country move several steps forward in our united fight against Covid-19.”

Biophore is also awaiting DCGI approval for a favipiravir finished dosage form.

Do not depend on Chinese manufactured

“Do not depend on Chinese manufactured goods ; promote Swadeshi” - CREDAI urges upon its members

Standing in solidarity with the nation and as a mark of tribute and respect  to the Galwan valley martyrs, CREDAI, the apex body of the real estate sector, representing 20,000 developers Pan India, has urge upon its members not to depend on  goods manufactured in China and encourage usage of  Swadeshi products.

Elaborating further on the initiative Satish Magar, President, CREDAI National said, “We appeal to our member developers not to depend on Chinese goods and embrace “Swadeshi” or “Made in India” way of life and business. CREDAI requests all the 250 allied industries which are linked to the real estate sector to manufacture these products locally especially the ones which are currently being imported from China and support the economy at large.”

Due to COVID 19 there is a disruption in supply chain emanating from CHINA which led to delay in completion of projects. Local production and purchase will lead to reduced procurement time, minimal loss of production hours and increased employment opportunities. Most of the raw materials being used are already being manufactured by the MSME sector in the country.

CREDAI is ready to extend its support to the local manufacturers for production of materials which are currently being imported and make a shift from Videshi to Swadeshi. The sector already employees more than 52 million workforce in the country and this  move will  further multiply  employment opportunities and give the required stimulus to the economy. Additionally this step will provide a boost to more than 250 allied MSME industries linked with the realty sector and  in turn will increase the overall contribution to the GDP.

TULIPS’s COVID-19 SWABS TO BOOST

TULIPS’s COVID-19 SWABS TO BOOST AFFORDABLE TESTING
Low-cost swabs for coronavirus testing vital to tackle the global pandemic
῀Dr MGR Medical University predict 1.5 lakh COVID cases in Chennai by mid-July ῀*

With an alarming rises of positive cases in Chennai, Tulips, India’s leading personal hygiene consumer product innovator today announced that it is producing over 5 million ‘made-in-India’, affordable COVID-19 SWABS per week to help the nation ramp up testing. The cost of these high-quality swabs is almost one tenth of the imported swabs.

As India tries to open up and revive the economy, testing is vital for tackling Coronavirus in India. This is important as epidemiologists at Tamil Nadu *Dr MGR Medical University predict 1.5 lakh COVID cases in Chennai by mid-July, using mathematical modelling.

To meet the country’s need for COVID-19 tests, Tulips has converted its production lines and reconfigured equipment, of some of its manufacturing capabilities. The company has the largest installed capacity of Cotton buds in Asia and possesses capability of taking the COVID-19 swab production to over 30 million swabs per week, if required in due course.

Significantly, in past 19 days, COVID cases in Tamil Nadu jumped from 10,000 to 27,256. The city has 9,066 active cases, and reported 1,072 cases. Of the total cases reported in Tamil Nadu since March 7, 18,693 cases were from Chennai.

Tulips supplied more than 7 million swabs to major VTM kit producers, in all parts of the country. Almost all the states have started using low cost Indian Swabs, as these have helped the states to cut their Test Kit costs by almost 40 – 60%.

The intent is to make the state self-reliant in nasal and throat swabs, critical in fighting COVID-19 war and rely less on supplies from other countries, in these testing times. With rising number of COVID-19 cases, the company shifted focus to affordable swabs, as domestically produced swabs would cost one-tenth the imported swabs.

Though the recovery percent in the state is more than 50% of the total cases, the addition of the new cases is a reminder that the demand for the testing swabs. With a steady inflow of migrants from Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, AP and Kerala who have tested positive.

The state has not increased its testing capacity for the past few weeks now and it still continues to test only 10,500 to 12,000 individuals in a day. According to the experts, Tamil Nadu needs to ramp-up its testing capabilities considerably to contain the spread of the virus.

TULIPS is the first to develop & receive the ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) and NIV (National Institute of Virology) validation for domestically produced special swabs. This is vital as COVID Test swabs were not manufactured in India, and were imported from the US or China. With global demand increasing, it became difficult and expensive to get swabs from other nations.

Today the state and the nation needs the swabs in to fight the COVID-19 war. As per WHO, reconfiguring health systems is vital to tackling COVID-19. This is significant amid calls for more testing for coronavirus and warnings from the medical experts that reopening the nation’s economy without increasing the capacity to test for the virus poses serious risks.

"Today's health crisis is unprecedented, so we all have to help wherever we can. While we are firm on meeting the pan India needs, we are scaling up to help the world. We are convinced that widespread and affordable testing of those infected with COVID-19 will bring us out of the current lockdown as we do our bit to help the states return to normalcy. We are working at full speed as time is of the essence, and a lot is at stake. Our dedicated employees are working 24 x 7, to ensure free availability.  We developed special swabs for COVID testing by converting the 100% Cotton processing lines, within 10 days flat. What is unique here, is that the entire development was done in-house by our amazing team and the trials were done on main production lines, which enabled us to start producing the same day we received the ICMR approval,” said Rahul Jain, Partner, Tulips.

To fight COVID-19, India will have to increase testing and may need over 7 – 10 million swabs every week, to enable the nation to safely begin easing lockdown restrictions and open the economy. This is significant as India plans aggressively to test its billion plus population for COVID-19 to ensure the virus doesn't spread faster when some of the regulations are relaxed.”, said Mr Rajiv Nath, Forum Coordinator, Association of Indian Medical Device Industry (AiMeD), New Delhi

With COVID-19 positive cases in India crossing 250000 and deaths surpassing 7000, experts believe, we must act decisively to outsmart the virus and contain the outbreak. Affordable swabs enable mitigating this human crisis by accelerating preventive testing, and quickly meeting the massive demand to a decrease in outbreak as well as a return to normalcy.

One of the largest producers of swabs – TULIPS’ product line, currently one of the best worldwide in innovative hygiene cotton products and wipes, employs more than 400 workers.
