Microsoft and Ed4All partner with the world’s largest open school platform

Microsoft and Ed4 All partner with the world’s largest open school platform, National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)
to make learners job-ready

  • The partnership will benefit 170 million learners in the open schooling system in India

Microsoft and Ed4All today announced a partnership with the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) to transform learning and empower students with digital skills. Through this partnership, Microsoft and Ed4All aim to reach over 170 million learners across the open schooling ecosystem, providing access to tools, experiences, and skills needed to be job-ready in a digital economy. 

As part of this collaboration, Microsoft and Ed4All have launched a customized tech platform for the NIOS Virtual Open School, BLEAP® for NIOS, that provides learners a personalized learning experience for improved learning outcomes.  BLEAP® for NIOS brings together live classes and labs, recorded sessions, remote proctored exams and assessments along with skill-based courses and certifications to provide a holistic learning experience. Students across NIOS will also have access to digital courses on technologies like artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cyber security and data sciences among others.

Designed to create a better classroom experience that enables student success, the platform will provide easy-to-consume modules including live demos, hands-on workshops and assignments. BLEAP® for NIOS is built on the Microsoft stack of Teams, M365 and Azure, with security at the core.

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India, commenting on the launch of the NIOS Virtual Open School said, "Education is not a competition to acquire degrees, but a transformative tool. The government is working to ensure that internet reaches village schools across the country. NIOS Virtual School is a new model of learning and is an example how leveraging technology and innovation can facilitate greater inclusion in education. The school will provide advanced digital learning platforms through virtual live classrooms and virtual labs.”

The latest addition to Microsoft’s varied portfolio is an innovative and versatile solution, aimed to cater to the evolving needs of users while continuing to work or learn remotely or in hybrid work environments. It empowers users to adapt to new ways of working and creating, outside of the workplace – to achieve more.

This provides users with a cinematic experience for their favourite movies and shows from the comfort of anywhere.

Surface Laptop 4 also features a built-in HD front-facing camera with incredible, low-light capability and a studio microphone array, to enable enhanced meeting experiences at work. In addition, its large trackpad with gesture support, allows users to easily adjust to their preferred workflow.

Available in either the 11th Gen Intel® Core™ processors, or AMD Ryzen™ Mobile Processors with Radeon™ Graphics Microsoft Surface® Edition (8 cores), the device will power modern, multitasking demands whether at the office, living room, coffee shop or classroom.

Adapting to the security needs of our customers, Surface Laptop 4 will also offer incredible security out-of-the-box with integrated hardware, firmware, software, and identity protection.  The first virtual edition of Imagine Cup saw 353 team entries and 10K individual entries across India

Microsoft today announced the India winners of the 2021 edition of Imagine Cup, its flagship innovation challenge for students and technology enthusiasts. The India winners, Team Detectd from G.H. Raisoni College of Engineering, Nagpur and Team Intelli-Sense from the Vellore Institute of Technology will proceed directly to the world finals of Imagine Cup.

Imagine Cup is a global competition designed to empower students to apply artificial intelligence and other technologies to solve some of the world’s most critical social and sustainability problems. The 2021 India edition saw 353 team entries and over 10K individual entries from students across the country, competing to solve global challenges across four categories: Earth, Education, Health, and Lifestyle. The two winning innovations were focused on cybersecurity to counter deepfakes (Team Detectd) and assistive technology for people with low vision (Team Intelli-Sense).

Microsoft joined hands with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) for the India edition of Imagine Cup. As knowledge partner, NSDC enabled nation-wide reach of the challenge across states, districts, and skill development centers. The finals of Imagine Cup India were judged by an eminent panel, including Anant Maheshwari, President, Microsoft India, Pulkit Jain, Co-founder and Product Head of Vedantu and Dr. Manish Kumar, CEO and MD, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Congratulating the winners, Anant Maheshwari, President, Microsoft India, said, “As India makes rapid strides in tech led transformation, the impact and scale of this transformation will depend on how we empower our most valuable asset, our youth. At the world finals, the top four teams will be awarded USD 10,000 each for the best solution in each category. The world champion will take home the Imagine Cup and win an additional USD 75,000 along with a mentorship opportunity with Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella.

It has become challenging for most businesses to keep their wheels running during the pandemic due to the general uncertainty in the global environment. Unfortunately, the impact on startups can be way more brutal with sudden slumps. The workshop began with an opening note from Shivani Sharma, AVP-Marketing, Embee. After that Sneha Mann, start-up ecosystem manager at Microsoft discussed how Microsoft can help startups at every stage of their journey, current programs and offers and how they can get right technical guidance.

It was followed by a brief presentation from Sagar Joshi who discussed how Microsoft cloud architecture can help startups to scale and accelerate their growth in a secure manner. After that Aman Singhal discussed why now is the right time for start-up owners to move to the cloud, key drivers, challenges, solutions, and debunked the most popular cloud myths.

Nitin Verma then took over to share his insights and learnings on building and growing a start-up, followed by Q and A and a closing note from Shivani.

NASSCOM FutureSkills® and Microsoft launch AI Classroom Series to

NASSCOM FutureSkills® and Microsoft launch AI Classroom Series to skill India’s future workforce with AI capabilities
  • The initiative aims to skill 1 million students in Artificial Intelligence by 2021
  • The AI Classroom Series will deliver Microsoft’s AI, machine learning and data science expertise to undergraduate students at no cost

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote skilling as a national priority, NASSCOM FutureSkills and Microsoft have joined hands to launch a nation-wide AI skilling initiative. The initiative aims to skill 1 million students in AI by 2021.
The collaboration will provide Microsoft’s AI, machine learning and data science expertise to students through easy to consume modules including live demos, hands on workshops and assignments. These introductory sessions on AI will be available for undergraduate students at no cost and will cover the basics of data science, machine learning models on Azure, and understanding of cognitive services to build intelligent solutions. 


The partnership with NASSCOM FutureSkills is an extension of Microsoft’s global skilling initiative to help 25 million people worldwide acquire new digital skills, needed to thrive in a digital economy.
Speaking about the partnership, Dr. Rohini Srivathsa, National Technology Officer, Microsoft India, said, “As economies start to recover from the pandemic, expanded access to digital skills will be one of the key drivers of an inclusive economic growth. Technologies like AI are becoming enablers for every business today, making the need for creating an AI ready ecosystem vital for India’s economic and social value creation. Speaking on the launch, Amit Aggarwal, VP & CEO, IT-ITeS Sector Skills Council, NASSCOM said, “With disruptions and shifting customer preferences changing technology and skill sets in demand there is a rise in new job roles and occupations; skill sets are rapidly emerging as must haves for current and prospective tech employees. The joint initiative with Microsoft aims to not only build future AI skilled talent but also nurture job creation through constant reskilling and upskilling for the years to come. We should look at this as a golden opportunity for students to imbibe AI and enhance their current skills sets to be future-ready.”
Commencing from September 21, 2020, the AI Classroom Series will be paced in three modules. The online classes will include live demos, hands-on workshops and assignments through self-learning, virtual instructor-led training, and mentoring. The teaching sessions will be conducted by various experts, including experts from Microsoft and NASSCOM. Students will have the option to choose from multiple time slots and plan their own learning pace. Registered students will also have access to content and developer tools from Microsoft and GitHub. A participation certificate from NASSCOM and Microsoft will be awarded to students at the end of the series.
The partnership will also steer collaboration with various academic institutes and colleges to integrate new cloud and AI technologies into the curriculum, with a vision to make India the global hub for skilled talent in AI.

Microsoft appoints Navtez Bal as Executive Director, Public Sector, Microsoft India

Microsoft announced the appointment of Navtez Bal as the new Executive Director, Public Sector, Microsoft India. In this role, Navtez will lead and expand Microsoft’s public sector business in India, with a focus on driving digital transformation and innovation across public sector organizations, empowering them to serve citizens better.

With over two decades of industry experience, Navtez has played a pivotal role in defining and executing performance transformation roadmaps for various industries, including Oil & Gas, Power, Metals & Mining and the Automotive industry, across several geographies. He has extensive experience in strategy development, business building, operational transformation, and organization redesign.

Prior to Microsoft India, Navtez was a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company, where he led the restructuring and transformation services and operations service line in India. Navtez holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Delhi College of Engineering and a management degree from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta.

Navtez will bring his in-depth sectoral knowledge to steer Microsoft’s public sector business in India. Microsoft is deeply invested in the digital transformation of the government eco-system in India and has been working closely with central and state governments across the country to deliver critical digital skills and technology to accelerate their digital success.

Navtez takes over from Manish Prakash, who will transition to the role of Government Regional Business Lead, Microsoft Asia.

Microsoft today announced that Surface Pro X, Surface Pro 7 and Surface Laptop 3 are now available in India via commercial authorized resellers, authorized retail and online partners at a starting price of INR 98,999, INR 72,999 and INR 98,999 respectively.
