Awards 2021 to Dr. O. Darshana, NIT Tiruchirappalli by The Institution
of Engineers (India) Tiruchirappalli Local Centre
The
Institution of Engineers (India) Tiruchirappalli Local Centre (IEI TLC )
celebrated the International Women’s Day on 09.03.2021. The function
was presided over by Dr. N. Kumaresan, Chairman, IEITLC. In his
presidential address he mentioned that the International Women’s Day
marks a day of call for action in reducing the existing gender gap
globally. The first gathering was in 1911 and since then, there has been
the continuous cry for action across the globe for gender balance. He
also stated that encouraging and giving qualified and competent women an
opportunity to rise does not depict failure of men. It shows a
readiness to Achieve, Succeed and Develop”. Hence, he therefore called
on all, especially the men within Engineering & Technology space
to join hands with the Women Engineers to play a critical role in
helping to build a more gender-balanced world as we all work towards a
balance for a better world.
Ms. Renuka Gera, Director,
Industrial Systems & Products, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.,
New Delhi was the chief guest for the International Women’s Day
function. She spoke about the significance of International Women’s Day
and the theme. She mentioned ability of multitasking, leadership
qualities and responsibilities of women in the development of self and
country.She quoting women leaders of world and women heads of panchayat
in India. She also complimented the recipient of the award for the year
2021.
As part of International Women’s Day celebrations,
The Institution of Engineers, Tiruchirappalli Local Centre honours one
Young women engineer in this region every year for their contribution
towards Engineering and Technology. For the year 2021, Dr. O. Darshana
of NIT Tiruchirappalli has been selected as the Young Woman Engineer.
The Award consists of a Plaque and a Certificate. The result was
announced by Er. R. Kumar, Evaluation Committee Member and Past Chairman
of IEI TLC. Then Dr. N. Kumaresan, Chairman, IEI TLC presented the
Young Woman Engineer Award 2021. The certificate of merit was handed
over by Er. A. Anand, Hon. Secretary Tiruchirappalli Local Centre and
Er. S. Samidas IEI TLC Committee Member.
In her acceptance
speech, Dr. O. Darshana thanked Tiruchirappalli Local Centre for
honouring the award and briefly explained her research experiences and
shared her career journey. Dr. R.Manjula, IEI TLC Committee member
felicitated the awardee and The program was coordinated by the Er. A.
Anand, Hon. Secretary, Tiruchirappalli Local Centre and he proposed the
vote of thanks.
