 தேசிய தொழில்நுட்ப கழகம் (என் ஐ டி டி), திருச்சியைச் சேர்ந்த 

இறுதி ஆண்டு பி.டெக் கெமிக்கல் இன்ஜினியரிங் மாணவர்கள் சிவம் நேகி, 
மற்றும் எஸ்.அனந்தநாராயணன் பொட்டி, இந்த ஆண்டு கேட்-2021 (GATE-2021) 
தேர்வில் அகில இந்திய தரவரிசை பட்டியலில் 8 மற்றும் 220 இடங்களைப் பெற்று 
சாதனை படைத்தனர். இந்த ஆண்டு  நாடு முழுவதும் கெமிக்கல் இன்ஜினியரிங் 
துறையில், 16705 மாணவர்கள் கேட்-2021 தேர்வை எழுதினார்கள்.
கேட் நுழைவு தேர்வு என்பது ஒருங்கிணைப்பு வாரியம் (NCB) - கேட், 
உயர்கல்வித்துறை, கல்வி அமைச்சகம் (MoE), இந்திய அரசு சார்பாக  இந்திய 
அறிவியல் நிறுவனம் (ஐ.ஐ.எஸ்.சி) பெங்களூரு மற்றும் பம்பாய், டெல்லி, 
குவஹாத்தி, கான்பூர், கரக்பூர், மெட்ராஸ் மற்றும் ரூர்க்கி ஆகிய ஏழு 
இந்திய தொழில்நுட்ப நிறுவனங்கள் (ஐ.ஐ.டி) இணைந்து நடத்தும் தேசிய 
தேர்வாகும். இந்த நுழைவு தேர்வில் தகுதி பெறுவது என்பது கல்வி அமைச்சகம் 
(MoE) மற்றும் பிற அரசு உதவித்தொகை / முதுகலை மற்றும் முனைவர் சேர்க்கை 
மற்றும் நிதி உதவி பெற ஒரு கட்டாயத் தேவையாகும். கேட் மதிப்பெண் சில 
பொதுத்துறை நிறுவனங்களால் (பி.எஸ்.யு) தங்கள் ஆட்சேர்ப்புக்காகவும், 
இந்தியாவிலும் வெளிநாட்டிலும் உள்ள பல பல்கலைக்கழகங்களால் சேர்க்கைக்குப் 
பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது. கேட்-2021 மதிப்பெண் முடிவுகள் அறிவிக்கப்பட்ட 
நாளிலிருந்து மூன்று ஆண்டுகளுக்கு செல்லுபடியாகும்.

சிவம் நேகி, கோவிட் முடக்கத்தின் போது  தனது 6 வது செமஸ்டர்  மார்ச் 
2020-ல் கேட் தேர்வுக்கான தயாரிப்புகளைத் தொடங்கினார். குறிப்பு 
புத்தகங்கள், குறிப்புகள் தயாரித்தல் மற்றும் சுய ஆய்வு, மாதிரி 
பரீட்சைகளை முயற்சிப்பது, அதிக மதிப்பெண்கள் பெற உதவியது என்பதையும் அவர் 
கூறினார். "கேட் நுழைவு தேர்வுக்கு தயாரிப்பது தொழில்நுட்ப அறிவை 
மேம்படுத்துவதோடு, நாடு தழுவிய போட்டித் தேர்வுகளை வழங்குவதில் 
மாணவர்களின் மன வலிமையை வளர்த்துக் கொள்வதற்கு உதவியாக இருக்கும். கேட் 
தேர்வில் நல்ல தரவரிசையைப் பெறுவது, நிச்சயமாக இந்தத் துறையில் உயர் 
படிப்பு மற்றும் நிறைய வேலைவாய்ப்புகளுக்கு வழிவகுக்கும்.", என்றார் சிவம்.

அகில இந்திய தரவரிசை 220 ஐப் பெற்ற எஸ்.அனந்தநாராயணன் பொட்டியும் இதே 
எண்ணங்களை எதிரொலித்தார். அவர் தனது ஏழாவது செமஸ்டர் காலத்தில்   
செப்டம்பரில் 2020 தனது தயாரிப்பைத் தொடங்கினார். "கருத்துக்களை நன்கு 
புரிந்துகொள்வதும், அவற்றைப் பயன்படுத்துவதும் நல்ல தரவரிசையை பெறுவதில் 
முக்கிய பங்கு வகிக்கிறது. அதிக  முக்கியமான பாடங்களைக் கவனம் செலுத்தி 
படிப்பது அதிக மதிப்பெண்களைப் பெற உதவுகிறது", என்றார் அனந்தநாராயணன்.

கெமிக்கல் இன்ஜினியரிங் துறையின் ஆசிரியர்களின் ஊக்கமும் ஆதரவும் 
கிடைத்ததாக இரு மாணவர்களும் குறிப்பிட்டனர். அதற்காக அவர்களுக்கு நன்றி 
தெரிவித்தனர். என்.ஐ.டி.டி-யில் உள்ள கெமிக்கல் இன்ஜினியரிங் 
பாடத்திட்டம் இந்த தேர்வுக்கான தயாரிப்பிற்கு பெரிதும் உதவியது என்றும் 
குறிப்பிட்டனர். மாணவர்கள் தங்கள் பெற்றோர்களுக்கும் நண்பர்களுக்கும் 
நன்றியைத் தெரிவித்தனர்.

சிவம் நேகி, பார்க் (BARC) நிறுவனத்தில் விஞ்ஞானியாக வேலை செய்ய 
விரும்புவதாகக் கூறினார். எஸ்.அனந்தநாராயணன் பொட்டி விரைவில் முதுகலை 
படிப்பைத் தொடர விரும்புவதாகக் கூறினார். இந்த இரண்டு சாதனையாளர்களைத் 
தவிர, மேலும் 9 மாணவர்களும் இந்தத் துறையிலிருந்து இந்தத் தேர்வில் தகுதி 
பெற்றனர்.

Chemical Engineering students secured All India Rank 8 and 220 respectively in GATE examination 2021

Tiruchirappalli (NITT) has secured All India Rank 8 and 220 respectively in the competitive Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2021 (GATE) examination

Shivam Negi, & S Ananthanarayanan Potti, final year B.Tech Chemical Engineering student from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (NITT) has secured All India Rank 8 and 220 
respectively in the competitive Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2021 (GATE) examination conducted by IIT Bombay this year in the Chemical Engineering stream among 16705 students appeared in this stream all over the country.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national examination conducted jointly by Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. Qualifying in GATE is a mandatory requirement for seeking admission 
and/or financial assistance to Postgraduate Programs (Master's and Doctoral) with Ministry of Education (MoE) and other Government Scholarships / Assistantships, subject to the admission criteria of the admitting institute. The GATE score is also used by some Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for their recruitment and by several other universities in India and abroad for admissions. GATE 2021 score will remain valid for THREE YEARS from the date of announcement of results.

Shivam had started his preparation for the GATE 2021 exam in March 2020 in his mid of 6th Semester B Tech Chemical Engineering just as the COVID lockdown was imposed. His preparation was by self-study through reference books, making notes and solving a lot of numerical problems. He also revealed that attempting a lot of mock tests helped achieve a high score by recreating the exam atmosphere. He encouraged all students to take up the GATE exam as it can create a lot of new opportunities for them. "Preparing for GATE will not only improve your technical background but also develop your mental fortitude in giving nationwide competitive exams and be a great test of one’s patience. Securing a good rank in the GATE exam will certainly open a lot of opportunities in the field of higher studies as well as jobs.", said Shivam.

Another Final year B.Tech student from the Department, S. Ananthanarayanan Potti, who secured AIR 220 also echoed the same thoughts. He began his preparation in September 2020 during his 
seventh semester. Like Shivam, he too prepared through self-study. "Understanding the concepts well and applying them for problem-solving plays a major role in getting a good gate rank. Targeting subjects with more weightage like Heat Transfer, Mass Transfer and Process 
Dynamic Control also helps in scoring more marks in such a limited time which is distributed between preparation and academic coursework.", said Ananthanaranyanan.

Both the students noted that they were encouraged and supported in their preparation by the faculty of the Chemical Engineering department and thanked them for the same. They also noted that the Chemical Engineering coursework at NITT had greatly helped them with their preparation for this exam. The students also thanked their parents and friends for supporting them and providing help.

Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas, the Director of NITT expressed her heartiest congratulations to the achievers. Dr P. Kalaichelvi, Professor and Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, along with the other faculty members and supporting staff, also congratulated both the students for their achievement.

Shivam Negi is now hoping to work as a staff scientist at BARC. S. Ananthanarayanan Potti is hoping to pursue postgraduate studies soon. Apart from these two achievers, 9 more students also qualified in this examination.

Director of NITT, CEO/Chairperson of CEDI Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas was very much pleased to welcome the ON BOARD New Incubatees, Faculty and NITT Alumni startups. She expressed her appreciation towards the newly 
admitted on board incubatees amidst the pandemic situation. Even though CEDI follows rigorous three stage selection process, it has graduated a great number of commercially successful and valued startups, since its inception. The Constrained geographical location of CEDI at NITT, which is well remote from the main city does not 
impede the interest and attraction of the Incubatees. But, enthusiastically CEDI offers opportunities to innovative ideas and early-stage startup in a challenging way. She promised the new incubatee and startup to propose necessary incubation support and raise concerns at the right time to avoid any commotion.  Further she

National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli has scheduled to organise two Faculty Development Programmes titled “Energy Engineering” and “Advances in Fuzzy Logic and Neural Networks  in Artificial Intelligence” from 28-12-2020 to 01-01-2021, sponsored  by the AICTE Teaching and Learning (ATAL) Academy, India.

The inaugural function of this programme was held on 28th, December  2020 through the online mode, in which Dr. M. Chidambaram, Former  Director, NITT, Former Professor, IIT Madras and presently Emeritus  Professor, Chemical Engineering, NIT Warangal was the chief guest. In  his inaugural address, he emphasized the need for such events in  creating awareness among young researchers about the nuances of Energy  Engineering and Artificial Intelligence along with challenging  research problems. Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas, Director, NITT presided over  the function and she said that these ATAL programmes are conducted  jointly  by the Departments of EEE and Mathematics, to train about 400  participants including faculty, research scholars and  post graduate  students and industry personnel  from all over India.

Dr. V.Sankaranarayanan, Prof. & Head, Department of EEE, NITT gave a  felicitation address, briefing on the research facilities available in NITT. Eminent experts from IITs, NITs and IIITs would deliver special  lectures, sharing their vast experience in various research topics.

Earlier, Dr. N. Kumaresan, Professor, EEE, NITT welcomed the participants and mentioned that the objective of the ATAL programme is  to constantly update the research group and academicians, on the 
advancements taking place in the emerging areas and to underscore the importance of fostering research, innovation and entrepreneurship.  Further, he also pointed out that the World Book of Record, London, UK has recognized the ATAL Academy, for having very successfully  organized more than 1000 FDP Programmes, thereby training about 1 lakh  faculty members, across premier institutions like IITs, NITs, and  IIITs in the year 2020-2021 and also added that the budget for this  year to conduct the online FDP programmes is Rs 10 crores. B.Tech students of NIT Trichy to get direct admission in IIT Delhi’s PhD programmes

Trichy: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and National Institute of Technology Trichy (NITT) have signed an MoU for collaboration on academic activities.

The MoU will facilitate direct admission of B.Tech students at NITT to IIT Delhi’s PhD programme, foster academic and research collaboration in areas of mutual interest and lead to exchange of faculty and students.

The MoU was signed by Prof V. Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi and Prof. Mini Shaji Thomas, Director, NIT Trichy.

Prof. Mini Shaji Thomas, Director, NIT Trichy said, ‘The key feature of this MoU is the excellent opportunity for bright undergrad students for direct PhD admission at IIT-D. We are very positive that this MoU will encourage academic partnership and fruitful research collaborations between NIT-T and IIT-D. The Institute is looking
forward for joint research projects and Faculty exchange programmes.’

Prof V.Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi welcomed the MoU with NIT Trichy and termed it a good opportunity for the faculty and students of both the institutes to collaborate in the area of R&D.Prof Rao added, “We would like to invite other NITs also to enter into similar academic partnership with IIT Delhi.”

Direct PhD Admission

Under this MoU, meritorious B.Tech students of NITT will be provided an opportunity to carry out part of their studies including project work at IIT Delhi and then they will be offered direct admission to PhD without the need to qualify GATE or any other national level examination. Under this scheme, NITT students with a CGPA of 8.00 at the end of their 6th semester (three years) will be eligible to apply for a project in summer and complete their fourth year (7th and 8th
semesters) at IIT Delhi.The students need to submit their transcript, and other academic records and achievements and documentary evidence of any research or internship experience along with their application.

The students are expected to demonstrate sufficient merit in coursework and research during their 7th and 8th semesters (04th year) of the B.Tech to continue to join the PhD programme.After the successful completion of their fourth year, they can be considered for an early admission to the PhD programme at IIT Delhi. The requirement of GATE is waived off since they will enter IIT Delhi with a minimum CGPA of 8.00.It is envisaged that this scheme will also help NITT
B.Tech students to enhance their chances for qualifying for the PMRF fellowship for PhD at IIT Delhi.

During their stay as visiting students, IIT Delhi will not be charging any academic fees, since they will be paying their regular academic fees at NIT Trichy. They, being B.Tech degree students, will also be provided either on-campus or off-campus paid hostel accommodation by IIT Delhi for one-year.
Students and Faculty Exchange IIT Delhi and NIT Trichy will exchange B.Tech, dual degree M.Tech students, research scholars and faculty. The students under the
exchange programme will be classified as special exchange students and they will be permitted to take courses on credit/audit, as well as participate in research activities/internships/project work. The selection and nomination of students will be open throughout the academic year.The faculty of NITT can also apply for suitable postdoc positions/any other opportunities available at IIT Delhi.

Research Collaboration
The faculty from both the institutes will also collaborate in the joint submission of research project proposals, supervision of exchange students and joint research in the disciplines of mutual interest.

"Medical safety kit for the saviours of NITT" i.e. the front line field workers of the Institute like security staffs, sanitary staffs and the medical staffs has been provided by NIT-Trichy medical team.













This was initiated with the support of the Chairperson Hospital Committee Prof.N.Anantharaman and the Institute administration.

The Director Prof.Mini Shaji Thomas presided the event,along with the Registrar Mr.Palanivel, distributed the Medical safety kits to few frontline field workers.

The Director appreciated and encouraged the selfless service of the front line field workers and conveyed that the Institute shall continue to provide all the required protective gear for their safety.




The Director expressed that the Institute would like to conduct a bigger event to honour the warriors,but considering the
precautionary measures advised,only 2 representatives from each department were invited with the HoDs. She also mentioned that the Institute is taking all measures to create awareness and take precautions to fight against the COVID 19 infection.





Medical safety kits contained the Immunity boosting multivitamin supplement _zinc and vit C as recommended by the TN health govt - one tablet to be consumed daily for 10 days,to enhance their immunity and in turn the campus immuNITy.

The kit also included ORS packet that can be used by the employees to re-hydrate themselves while doing service,in the hot weather when required.And also an additional reusable cotton face cover was provided for ready usage.

The Institute Medical Officers Dr.R.Priyanka,Dr.Malaimala Sarasveni, the Convenor hospital committee Dr.S.Sathish Kumar, the Security Officer Mr.G.Murugan, the Executive Engineer Mr.Narayanan were in the event .The event was conducted with all precautionary measures by following social distancing norms, face mask was worn by all participants and maintaining hand hygiene was ensured.

marks a momentous day for IGNITTE-the first  time a student coached by NITT’s dedicated teaching club, has been  allotted a seat in that very college- NIT Trichy. G.Jansi from the  Perambalur district has bagged a seat in the Civil Engineering  Department, Batch of 2019-23. First off, IGNITTE would like to  sincerely thank the NITT administration, the Perambalur District  administration and the Phoenix NEET Academy for their unwavering  
support and aid in this year’s project, which involved coaching  selected Government School students from Perambalur for competitive  exams and helping them with their college counselling as well.

Jansi was trained for JEE Main by members of IGNITTE and the efforts  taken by both Jansi and the team have paid off. Till this year,  IGNITTE has been able to send students to top-notch Tamil Nadu  Government Colleges, but this is the first time a student has been  allotted a seat in a National Institute. This just goes to show that a  
combination of dedication, hard work and perseverance by the student  and teacher really pays off. Jansi put in her all to crack one of the  most competitive entrance exams in the country, and IGNITTE  members  
worked tirelessly, day and night, teaching concepts, clearing doubts,  setting practice tests, and providing moral support.

NIT Trichy Director, Prof. Mini Shaji Thomas congratulated Ms Jansi  and the IGNITTE Team for showing such a stellar result.It is not a  mean feat for a student to coach another, but the talented and  
dedicated members of IGNITTE have shown that anything is possible if  you are passionate enough. A student guided by our college students  getting a admission in the very same college is one of the greatest  
achievements any college team has ever achieved.

IGNITTE, a social responsibility club entering its fourth year of  operation, was first started in 2016 by then- first year student and  teaching-enthusiast Sanjeev, which has now grown into a full fledged  
organization. In association with Phoenix NEET Academy, a group of  doctors providing NEET coaching, the club brings out the hidden  potential in underpriviledged students with its sincere efforts.  Members of the team devote their weekends to conducting coaching  classes in the Perambalur Government High School, and the students  
stay in the college for full- time coaching as the exam nears. The  club showed great results in its first two years as well- 40 students  cleared NEET 2017. 13 cleared NEET 2016, and 2 cleared JEE Main in  
2016 and 2017. IGNITTE has its own online mentoring platform  (ignitte.org) for students to get their doubts cleared by the team  even when they are not present in the school. The team has also posted  
east-to-understand YouTube videos for the benefit of the students. In  short, IGNITTE aims to ignite hope in the hearts of the students who  cannot afford such coaching, and give them an opportunity that will  
change their future for the better.“Burn to shine” is IGNITTE’s motto. We have burnt all our fuel and  given our best, and now is our time to shine.

National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (NITT), celebrated  International Day of Yoga in the institute auditorium - BARN Hall on  21st June 2019. The institute organized a high reaching Yoga  demonstration programme for the faculty, staff, students and  residential members of NITT with great enthusiasm.

Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas, Director inaugurated the Yoga day celebration  and She emphasized the importance of yoga for strengthening our mental  and physical ability, increase the body flexibility and reduces  
stress. Different Asanas were demonstrated and practiced by all  participants. The Director, NITT observed the International Day of  Yoga celebration and also took part in the practical yoga session.  About 100 delegates including faculty members, staff, students, NSS  and NCC volunteers and residential members of NITT participated in  Yoga day celebrations.

On behalf of NSS, NCC and student’s council of NIT, the NSS  Coordinator Dr. V. Mariappan coordinated the events. NITT proposed to  conduct regular Yoga classes throughout the year for all students,  staff and their family members and also planned to organize all India  NIT Yoga Championship every year to encourage the yoga aspirants.

“Empowering Teachers in 21st Century Skills Education

A Five-day Faculty Development Programme on “Empowering Teachers in 21st Century Skills Education” has been organised by Dr.S. Mekala and  Dr.N. Thamaraiselvan from 29th April 2019 to 3rd May 2019 for the  
faculty members from Engineering Colleges at National Institute of  Technology - Tiruchirappalli. This programme is sponsored by AICTE  under Margdarshan Scheme.

The inauguration ceremony was conducted at 10.00 am on 29th April 2019  in the presence of Dr Mini Shaji Thomas, Director,  NIT-Tiruchirappalli, Dr.N. Sivakumaran, Margdarshan Coordinator, and  Dr R. Joseph Ponniah, Head of the Department of Humanities and Social  Sciences, NIT-Trichy.


Dr.S. Mekala, Programme Coordinator welcomed the gathering and briefed  the objectives of this five-day faculty development program that  equips the teachers to be competent in facing the challenges of the  
dynamic learning environment and stated that the 21st century Skills  Education encapsulates the social, personal, intellectual and  emotional skills which aim at preparing learners for meaningful and  
successful life in this globalized context.She added that such seed  skills have become necessary pre-requisites in this knowledge-based  economy of this 21st century. She mentioned that the dynamic  leadership of the Director had been the source of inspiration to  launch this event.

Dr Mini Shaji Thomas, Director, NIT-T delivered the presidential  address. She added that the capabilities of NIT-Trichy as a public  enterprise, are shared to the participants of the men tee and  non-men tee institutes through training the students and faculties  based on workshops and programmers like the FDP on “Empowering Teachers  in 21st Century Skills Education”. She wished great success to the  programmer coordinators for their initiative to disseminate skills  education to the faculty fraternity in higher education institutions.  
Moreover, she informed the participants to utilize the facilities at  our institute and she said this semester internship will be offered to  students in various departments.

Dr.N. Sivakumaran thanked the Director for providing opportunities to  organise FDPs and workshops and explained the Margdarshan scheme. In  addition, he congratulated the FDP coordinators for their diligence  
and stated that this was the first FDP organised under Margdarshan  scheme.

Dr. R. Joseph Ponniah delivered the felicitation address and  elaborated on the necessity of Communication skills and Thinking  Skills in acquiring a language. He appreciated the title of the FDP on 21st Century Skills Education and congratulated the coordinators.

Dr.S.Mekala, Programme Coordinator expressed her profound gratitude to  the Director, NIT-Tiruchirappalli, Margdarshan Coordinators and  Dr.N.Thamaraiselvan, Programme coordinator for their guidance and  
support. She also thanked the Experts who have accepted to share their  valuable insights in this programmer.  She also thanked the  participants for responding to this workshop as a men tee and  non-mentee participants who have made this five-day FDP a successful  endeavor.

Institute Day 2019 held today at NIT Tiruchirappalli

The Institute Day Celebrations started with an invocation to the  Almighty following which the Students’ Council President Mr. Shivam  Sharma welcomed the gathering.

The Dean(Academic) of NIT Tiruchirapalli then gave a brief report on the various activities undertaken by the institute in the current  academic year in his address to the gathering. He began by mentioning  
the number of students who graduated this year and the various  achievements by the faculty members and students of various  departments of the institute. Following the mention of these achievements he gave a brief talk about Festember the cultural fest o NITT, Pragyan, the Techno management fest of NITT and NITTfest the  
intra college cultural fest. He concluded his address by giving a  special mention to the sports contingent of NITT who won the inter-NIT  championship held in NIT Tiruchirapalli this year.


Dr.Mini Shaji Thomas,Director,NIT Trichy began her speech by  congratulating the faculty, alumni, staff and students of NIT Trichy  for their phenomenal accomplishments in 2018-19. She also took this as  
an opportunity on few of the milestones accomplished during her  tenure.  She was extremely happy in conveying that our impressive  ranking positions in this year’s NIRF Rankings stands as a testament  
to our tradition of excellence, which has reached newer heights this  year. NIT Trichy has secured an astounding 10th position with regard  to Engineering, thereby outranking various NITs and IITs with the aid  
of research volume, industry-academia collaborations, perception and  unbeatable talent in our campus. She also emphasized that the students  and the faculty must be even more responsible to climb up the ladder  
even more. She also focused on the most important historic achievement  of our college via the inauguration of the 190 Crore Centre of Dynamic  Excellence in Manufacturing in partnership with Siemens Industry  
Software by the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Prakash  Javadekar and the unveiling of the Institute’s five-year Strategic  Plan (2019-2024). She also made a note on the revising of the Vision  
and Mission statements of our college and also recounted on the design  of a brand new emblem. She also spoke about the rise of several  industrial collaborations with the likes of Tata Steel Ltd., Tata  
Motors, BHEL, Tech Mahindra, CII, TNDISTSIA, Airports Authority of  India. Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas mentioned about the establishment of a  fully functional Office of Alumni-Institute Interaction Cell including  
appointing new Dean (Alumni Relations) with an aim to expand our  global footprint and to reshape ourselves as a cosmopolitan  institution of the 21st century. She also acknowledged the tremendous  
services rendered by the ‘Public Relations and Media Cell of NIT  Trichy’ team which issues regular news releases thereby remaining as  the point of contact for journalists and new media.

She then congratulated the students for bringing laurels to the  institute and mentioned about securing second prize at Singapore-India  Hackathon 2018.She also made a note about MHRD’s Unnat Bharat Abhiyan,  
a programme that aims to improve the quality of life in rural areas  where NIT mentors 14 institutes. She mentioned that in 2018, NIT  Trichy became the only NIT among the thirty-one NITs in the country to  
be awarded a position in the Swacch Campus Rankings and also bagged  the Green Award conferred by TNPCB. She also congratulated the award  winners on the Institute Day and motivated the students by saying that  much more potential yet to be realized. She was confident that with research-led teaching, inspiring faculties, highly skilled staff, and  well-developed students, the students, faculties and the  administration as an entity will be in a position to successfully  complete the priorities identified in the strategic plan. She finally  concluded by urging everyone to work diligently as a team to make thisinstitution reach newer heights. Following the Director’s address Dr.  Arumugam, Former Principal of REC and Director of NIT Trichy and Dr.  
M. Chidambaram, Former Director of NIT Trichy were felicitated by the  Chief Guest and Director.

The Chief Guest of the occasion, Prof.Deepak B Phatak,Subrao Nilekani Chair Professor,Kanwal Rekhi School of Information  Technology,Department of Computer Science and Engineering,Indian  
Institute of Technology Bombay began addressing the gathering by  congratulating the students being honored for their achievements. He  then emphasized on the fact that a large number of people do not avail  
such opportunities that an institute like NIT has to offer. Further,  he stated that though our country has been making rapid progress to  alleviate the twin problems of ignorance and poverty, we as a nation  
still have to develop. He then shed light on some of the developmental  issues faced by our nation such as low Gross Enrolment Ratio in higher  education, having per-capita income levels amongst the lowest in the  
world and the differences amongst us in terms of religion and  language. However, he asserted that our country survived as a great  democracy for seven decades overcoming these issues. He stressed on  
the role of academic institutions in contributing to the society. He  emphasized the need to cultivate social skills in addition to joining  the rat race of academic excellence.  He cited Dr. Abdul Kalam as a  
person who had excelled in appreciating talent in young and old and  that is an important trait of a leader. He exhorted the audience to  develop such leadership skills and make it their ambition to improve  
themselves on a daily basis. He urged the students to become leaders  in their chosen field and contribute significantly towards nation  building.

 He also encouraged the faculty members to lead national  initiatives in their chosen field. He concluded by saying that one  need not compromise his personal life to contribute towards society,  and that on the contrary people performing well on their personal and  family front are in a much better situation to contribute more  
significantly to the nation. The Director then presented a memento to  
the Chief Guest.


The students who have excelled in academics and the faculty members  who have contributed to significant research publications and  citations were then honoured with awards.
