 தேசிய தொழில்நுட்ப கழகம் (என் ஐ டி டி), திருச்சியைச் சேர்ந்த 

இறுதி ஆண்டு பி.டெக் கெமிக்கல் இன்ஜினியரிங் மாணவர்கள் சிவம் நேகி, 
மற்றும் எஸ்.அனந்தநாராயணன் பொட்டி, இந்த ஆண்டு கேட்-2021 (GATE-2021) 
தேர்வில் அகில இந்திய தரவரிசை பட்டியலில் 8 மற்றும் 220 இடங்களைப் பெற்று 
சாதனை படைத்தனர். இந்த ஆண்டு  நாடு முழுவதும் கெமிக்கல் இன்ஜினியரிங் 
துறையில், 16705 மாணவர்கள் கேட்-2021 தேர்வை எழுதினார்கள்.
கேட் நுழைவு தேர்வு என்பது ஒருங்கிணைப்பு வாரியம் (NCB) - கேட், 
உயர்கல்வித்துறை, கல்வி அமைச்சகம் (MoE), இந்திய அரசு சார்பாக  இந்திய 
அறிவியல் நிறுவனம் (ஐ.ஐ.எஸ்.சி) பெங்களூரு மற்றும் பம்பாய், டெல்லி, 
குவஹாத்தி, கான்பூர், கரக்பூர், மெட்ராஸ் மற்றும் ரூர்க்கி ஆகிய ஏழு 
இந்திய தொழில்நுட்ப நிறுவனங்கள் (ஐ.ஐ.டி) இணைந்து நடத்தும் தேசிய 
தேர்வாகும். இந்த நுழைவு தேர்வில் தகுதி பெறுவது என்பது கல்வி அமைச்சகம் 
(MoE) மற்றும் பிற அரசு உதவித்தொகை / முதுகலை மற்றும் முனைவர் சேர்க்கை 
மற்றும் நிதி உதவி பெற ஒரு கட்டாயத் தேவையாகும். கேட் மதிப்பெண் சில 
பொதுத்துறை நிறுவனங்களால் (பி.எஸ்.யு) தங்கள் ஆட்சேர்ப்புக்காகவும், 
இந்தியாவிலும் வெளிநாட்டிலும் உள்ள பல பல்கலைக்கழகங்களால் சேர்க்கைக்குப் 
பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது. கேட்-2021 மதிப்பெண் முடிவுகள் அறிவிக்கப்பட்ட 
நாளிலிருந்து மூன்று ஆண்டுகளுக்கு செல்லுபடியாகும்.

சிவம் நேகி, கோவிட் முடக்கத்தின் போது  தனது 6 வது செமஸ்டர்  மார்ச் 
2020-ல் கேட் தேர்வுக்கான தயாரிப்புகளைத் தொடங்கினார். குறிப்பு 
புத்தகங்கள், குறிப்புகள் தயாரித்தல் மற்றும் சுய ஆய்வு, மாதிரி 
பரீட்சைகளை முயற்சிப்பது, அதிக மதிப்பெண்கள் பெற உதவியது என்பதையும் அவர் 
கூறினார். "கேட் நுழைவு தேர்வுக்கு தயாரிப்பது தொழில்நுட்ப அறிவை 
மேம்படுத்துவதோடு, நாடு தழுவிய போட்டித் தேர்வுகளை வழங்குவதில் 
மாணவர்களின் மன வலிமையை வளர்த்துக் கொள்வதற்கு உதவியாக இருக்கும். கேட் 
தேர்வில் நல்ல தரவரிசையைப் பெறுவது, நிச்சயமாக இந்தத் துறையில் உயர் 
படிப்பு மற்றும் நிறைய வேலைவாய்ப்புகளுக்கு வழிவகுக்கும்.", என்றார் சிவம்.

அகில இந்திய தரவரிசை 220 ஐப் பெற்ற எஸ்.அனந்தநாராயணன் பொட்டியும் இதே 
எண்ணங்களை எதிரொலித்தார். அவர் தனது ஏழாவது செமஸ்டர் காலத்தில்   
செப்டம்பரில் 2020 தனது தயாரிப்பைத் தொடங்கினார். "கருத்துக்களை நன்கு 
புரிந்துகொள்வதும், அவற்றைப் பயன்படுத்துவதும் நல்ல தரவரிசையை பெறுவதில் 
முக்கிய பங்கு வகிக்கிறது. அதிக  முக்கியமான பாடங்களைக் கவனம் செலுத்தி 
படிப்பது அதிக மதிப்பெண்களைப் பெற உதவுகிறது", என்றார் அனந்தநாராயணன்.

கெமிக்கல் இன்ஜினியரிங் துறையின் ஆசிரியர்களின் ஊக்கமும் ஆதரவும் 
கிடைத்ததாக இரு மாணவர்களும் குறிப்பிட்டனர். அதற்காக அவர்களுக்கு நன்றி 
தெரிவித்தனர். என்.ஐ.டி.டி-யில் உள்ள கெமிக்கல் இன்ஜினியரிங் 
பாடத்திட்டம் இந்த தேர்வுக்கான தயாரிப்பிற்கு பெரிதும் உதவியது என்றும் 
குறிப்பிட்டனர். மாணவர்கள் தங்கள் பெற்றோர்களுக்கும் நண்பர்களுக்கும் 
நன்றியைத் தெரிவித்தனர்.

சிவம் நேகி, பார்க் (BARC) நிறுவனத்தில் விஞ்ஞானியாக வேலை செய்ய 
விரும்புவதாகக் கூறினார். எஸ்.அனந்தநாராயணன் பொட்டி விரைவில் முதுகலை 
படிப்பைத் தொடர விரும்புவதாகக் கூறினார். இந்த இரண்டு சாதனையாளர்களைத் 
தவிர, மேலும் 9 மாணவர்களும் இந்தத் துறையிலிருந்து இந்தத் தேர்வில் தகுதி 
பெற்றனர்.
என் ஐ டி டியின் இயக்குனர் டாக்டர் மினி ஷாஜி தாமஸ், சாதித்தவர்களுக்கு 
தனது மனமார்ந்த வாழ்த்துக்களைத் தெரிவித்தார். வேதியியல் பொறியியல்

Chemical Engineering students secured All India Rank 8 and 220 respectively in GATE examination 2021

Tiruchirappalli (NITT) has secured All India Rank 8 and 220 respectively in the competitive Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2021 (GATE) examination

Shivam Negi, & S Ananthanarayanan Potti, final year B.Tech Chemical Engineering student from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (NITT) has secured All India Rank 8 and 220 
respectively in the competitive Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2021 (GATE) examination conducted by IIT Bombay this year in the Chemical Engineering stream among 16705 students appeared in this stream all over the country.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national examination conducted jointly by Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. Qualifying in GATE is a mandatory requirement for seeking admission 
and/or financial assistance to Postgraduate Programs (Master's and Doctoral) with Ministry of Education (MoE) and other Government Scholarships / Assistantships, subject to the admission criteria of the admitting institute. The GATE score is also used by some Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for their recruitment and by several other universities in India and abroad for admissions. GATE 2021 score will remain valid for THREE YEARS from the date of announcement of results.

Shivam had started his preparation for the GATE 2021 exam in March 2020 in his mid of 6th Semester B Tech Chemical Engineering just as the COVID lockdown was imposed. His preparation was by self-study through reference books, making notes and solving a lot of numerical problems. He also revealed that attempting a lot of mock tests helped achieve a high score by recreating the exam atmosphere. He encouraged all students to take up the GATE exam as it can create a lot of new opportunities for them. "Preparing for GATE will not only improve your technical background but also develop your mental fortitude in giving nationwide competitive exams and be a great test of one’s patience. Securing a good rank in the GATE exam will certainly open a lot of opportunities in the field of higher studies as well as jobs.", said Shivam.

Another Final year B.Tech student from the Department, S. Ananthanarayanan Potti, who secured AIR 220 also echoed the same thoughts. He began his preparation in September 2020 during his 
seventh semester. Like Shivam, he too prepared through self-study. "Understanding the concepts well and applying them for problem-solving plays a major role in getting a good gate rank. Targeting subjects with more weightage like Heat Transfer, Mass Transfer and Process 
Dynamic Control also helps in scoring more marks in such a limited time which is distributed between preparation and academic coursework.", said Ananthanaranyanan.

Both the students noted that they were encouraged and supported in their preparation by the faculty of the Chemical Engineering department and thanked them for the same. They also noted that the Chemical Engineering coursework at NITT had greatly helped them with their preparation for this exam. The students also thanked their parents and friends for supporting them and providing help.

Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas, the Director of NITT expressed her heartiest congratulations to the achievers. Dr P. Kalaichelvi, Professor and Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, along with the other faculty members and supporting staff, also congratulated both the students for their achievement.

Shivam Negi is now hoping to work as a staff scientist at BARC. S. Ananthanarayanan Potti is hoping to pursue postgraduate studies soon. Apart from these two achievers, 9 more students also qualified in this examination.

Standard Chartered appoints Kusal Roy as Head - Retail Banking

Standard Chartered Bank, India, has appointed Kusal Roy as its new Head of Retail Banking effective 05 May 2020.

Kusal brings to the role a wide experience gained over his 25 year plus career in retail banking, payments industry and NBFC sector. Prior to joining Standard Chartered, he was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Tata Capital Financial Services Ltd. In his career, he has held various senior roles in ICICI Bank, Barclays Bank and Citibank India.

In his new role, Kusal will report to Zarin Daruwala, India, CEO and Sebastian Arcuri, Regional Head, Retail Banking, ASEAN & South Asia.

Kusal did his BTech from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur and followed it with a post-graduation from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.

National Institute collaboration with Indian Institute

 National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli (NITT) in collaboration with Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology, Thanjavur (IIFPT) have developed a 2TR prototype solar assisted cold storage (PSCS) system in the Industrial Automation Laboratory in NITT by the team of faculty from the both the institutes. This project was fully funded by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India. This facility was inaugurated on Saturday, 02 February 2019 at 11:00 AM by Prof. Mini Shaji Thomas, Director, NITT in the presence of Dr.C. Anandharamakrishnan, Director, Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT), Thanjavur, Mr.A.S.Ananthakrishnan, Chairman, CII Trichy Zone & Managing Director, CEEYES Engineering Industries Pvt. Ltd and Dr.S.Rominus Valsalam, Former Associate Director, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Thiruvananthapuram. The main aim of PSCS system is to replicate a mobile multi commodity cold storage system to store different fruits and vegetables and reduce post-harvest losses specifically from the farmer’s field to the cold storage facility which is the major issue faced by Indian farmer community. The PSCS system consisting of two cold rooms and a chiller unit kept in between the cold rooms. In this system, the shelf life of fruits and vegetables can be increased by maintaining the temperature and humidity of the fruits and vegetables on recommended range of standards. The uniqueness of the project is using the Low Melting Temperature Phase Change Material (PCM) to store and circulate in the cold storage rooms instead of direct evaporation of refrigerant. The excess cold energy can be stored in the PCM and is utilized when the absence of solar energy and Grid. This is an energy saving and cost-effective system when compared to the Battery Energy Storage.

The project team was informed the technology is ready to disseminate for the interested stakeholders. IndiGo Appoints Industry Veteran Ronojoy Dutta As Principal Consultant

Mr. Ronojoy Dutta has been appointed as Principal Consultant to InterGlobe Aviation Limited, with immediate effect. Mr. Dutta will be reporting to Interim CEO Mr. Rahul Bhatia.

Mr. Dutta’s primary responsibility will be to develop a five-year business plan for IndiGo. 

Mr. Dutta has extensive experience in the aviation industry: he was President of United Airlines, where he worked for nearly twenty years, holding a broad spectrum of leadership positions including Senior VP Planning, Senior VP Maintenance, VP Finance and VP Information Technology. He was subsequently an adviser in the restructuring of both Air Canada and USAirways, among other extensive consulting engagements. Mr. Dutta also has experience of Indian aviation, having been President of Air Sahara for two years.

Mr. Dutta has served on the Boards of United Airlines, US Airways and Marsico Trust Funds. He has a degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
