Tabrez Noorani’s upcoming film, Love Sonia is already touring across International Film Festivals and has been appreciated for its intriguing portrayal of the dark universe, lesser known. Not just a master plot but the choice of faces to justify each character, in turn creates an impact screenplay. While we already know the trailer has created a massive impact on the audience, we’ve now learned about an interesting trivia about the casting of Mrunal Thakur in the film.

The Marathi movie fame, Mrunal was shortlisted out of 2500 faces who had auditioned for the role of Sonia. The casting of the film was very crucial for the makers as the entire story revolves around the agony, Sonia is put into. The script demanded someone who is young, innocent but has a strong mindful inclination at the same time. 

Tabrez Noorani, while talking about the extensive research the team had put in, quoted, “We went through 2,500 girls and an extensive casting process to find her. We looked everywhere across different cities in India, we looked for Indian girls in LA, parts of Canada and the UK. So, we really went through several auditions before we found Mrunal. First time when we actually saw her, I think it was a mixture of her vulnerability and innocence. At the same time, you could tell that there is a strong girl which we needed and the minute she auditioned we knew that she is Sonia.”

Murnal seems equally excited with the kind of opportunity she has received. Commenting on the same, she added, “As an actor, you want to fit in every role and be able to portray it with the best of your abilities. But little did I imagine that I would get an important role in my first film itself. The character is the heart and soul of the film. I hope all the hard work put by Tabrez and all of us actors in the film is liked by the audiences.”

Love Sonia narrates the journey of a young village girl Sonia, played by Mrunal, whose life irrevocably changes when she’s exposed to the unsolved maze of global sex trade while trying to save her sister from this heist. 

The film stars an ensemble of acclaimed actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Richa Chadha, Rajkummar Rao, Sai Tamhankar, Adil Hussain, Anupam Kher, Demi Moore, Mark Duplass, and Freida Pinto alongside debutants Mrunal Thakur and Riya Sisodiya in powerful roles.   

The trailer has already created a massive buzz amongst the audience and the movie is sure to fulfill our expectations and beyond this September.

The film is Tabrez Noorani's directorial debut, produced by the Academy Award nominated producer of Life of Pi, David Womark and Tabrez Noorani. Co-produced by Amar Butala and Executive Producers include Shalini Thackeray, Deepak Nayar and Pravesh Sahni. The Dynasty Consulting Group was instrumental in setting up the movie. The gritty trailer underlines Manoj's heart wrenching portrayal of a man (named Khuddus) trapped within the walls and alleys of Old Delhi and his own mind, who attempts to break free to find a human connection. He is ably supported in the film by an ensemble cast of actors par excellence - Ranvir Shorey, Neeraj Kabi and Shahana Goswami along with debutant child actor Om Singh. Shot entirely on locations, Gali Guleiyan is directed by Los Angeles-based debutant filmmaker and winner of Director Guild of America Award, Dipesh Jain.

Not just the stellar cast, the film also boasts of some of the best technicians. Many Oscar, Emmy and Grammy winning/nominated artists have worked on the film that was completed at top Hollywood facilities like Fox studios, Light Iron and Skywalker Sound. The post-production took place in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.

Talking about the film and his character, Manoj Bajpayee said, "This is perhaps one of the most challenging roles that I have played. My character in Gali Guleiyan is a very complex one with many layers and the film itself is a difficult one to make. Hats off to our director Dipesh, who despite being a newcomer, came up with such a great idea, made this challenging film and has taken it to festivals across the world. The adulation that the film has received has been overwhelming and we are very excited to now take it to our audience as the film sets up for its release in theatres worldwide on 7th September. Gali Guleiyan has travelled to more than 20 top International Film Festivals winning audience accolades and many awards along the way. These include the prestigious Busan International Film Festival, MAMI, 42nd Cleveland International Film Festival, the Indian Film Festival of Los Angles, Atlanta Film Festival, the New York Indian Film Festival and the on-going Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
