GrandMaster R Praggnanandhaa, Std 12 of Velammal Main School, Mogappair Campus has received  the prestigious Arjuna Award. The second highest sporting  award of India was presented by the Honourable President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu at the National Sports and Adventure Awards- 2022 ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi on 30th November, 2022.

India’s Chess prodigy is brilliant, hardworking and disciplined. To start off with, playing Chess was a mere hobby for him.

Pragg became the youngest International Master in the history of the game of Chess in 2016, at the age of 10. The coveted ‘Grandmaster’ title was earned at the age of 12 which made him the fifth youngest person ever to do so. He is also the youngest player and the third Indian to defeat Norwegian Chess Superstar Magnus Carlsen thrice in a row in six months in 2022. This is one of the glamourous highlights of his career.

The Chess maestro is serene by victory or loss, and this being his biggest strength has made him conquer the world in the war of checkmates.

It's a matter of great pride for Velammal to create 9  Grandmasters furthermore the World Class Chess  Champions are at their campus as they were always  encouraged to  show their prowess by being a part at various global tournaments.

The (U  -19) Kho-Kho  Boys Team of Velammal Main School, Mogappair  campus bagged  the Silver Medal and the Runners Title at  the State Level Open School Team Championship-2022 T for Boys  held in Dhaanish Ahmed College of Engineering, Chennai, recently.

 

This Kho-Kho Team made  it among 14 teams  and received certificates, medals and trophy.

The school management lauds the team’s splendid win.

In a bid to contain COVID & Omicron variants,  Velammal Main Campus organised a mega  vaccination drive for the students of classes X to XII on 4th January 2022.

 Around 4000 students enthusiastically gor vaccinated in this massive vaccination camp.

  Velammal Main Campus in Association with Greater Chennai Corporation organised this massive campaign for a noble cause.

 Parents were grateful to the management for taking a timely initiative to safeguard the students during this pandemic.

  Mr. Joseph Samuel, MLA, Ambattur Constituency inaugurated this vaccination drive.

  It was presided over by Shri M V M Velmohan, Correspondent of Velammal Educational Trust and Mrs.Sheela, District Health Officer, Ambattur.

   Mr. Mansoor and Ms. Sahana Sanitary officers were also present at this occasion.

Miss Kowshika L, Class 8 of Velammal Main School, Mogappair Campus bagged the First prize in the 3rd District Level Vovinam Championship  in girls(U-14) category Long Ho Quyen event organised by Chennai District Vovinam Association affiliated to Tamilnadu Vovinam Association, Vovinam Association of India, held in Human Aura Arts Academy, Aminjikarai recently.

Kowshika proved her mettle with a good score of 19 points out of 20 in the final round and qualified for the State Level Championship scheduled in January 2022.

This Vietnamese Martial Art Championship at the district level saw around 50  participants from various schools across the state.

 
Vovinam is practised with and without weapons.

Master D Vetremaaran, Class  7 of Velammal Main School, Mogappair Campus has made a fabulous  achievement in Code Spartans Coding Olympiad by securing 3rd position with a score 96/100  conducted by Codingal held in the virtual  platform recently. 

This event was organised by Code Spartans. Codingal is the Code learning platform, that provides and inspires students to learn coding.

Grandmaster R. Praggnanandha, Class 11 of Velammal Main School, Mogappair Campus wins  the  Julius Bear Challengers Chess Tournament held virtually with a dominating score  of 3-0 defeating the American opponent Christopher Yoo and secured the First Prize $12500 on 17th October,2021.

 Making a clean sweep by scoring 8 wins and giving away just one draw in the knockout stage  qualifies Grandmaster Praggnanandha to participate in the forthcoming Meltwater Champions Chess Tour scheduled next year where he will face the strongest players in the world.

                                         NAVARATRI  FESTIVITY AT VELAMMAL

The Velammal fraternity at Velammal Main School, Mogappair Campus set the festive mood celebrating the festival of Navaratri with great zeal and enthusiasm to evoke the blessings of Goddess Durga in her various forms. 

The atrium of the school building is adorned with vividly coloured flowers, lights and rangolis.
Further adding gaiety to this festivity,  is the Bommai Kolu with its marvelous wooden and clay dolls depicting the Gods and Goddesses and the rustic scenes.

This festival dedicated to the worship of the nine forms of Shakti witness the prayers, chant of slokas on all days to evoke spiritual vibes. Daily evening pujas with bhajans in praise of the Goddesses are sung  with devotion by the school faculty followed by enchanting cultural performances by the  Vel's Natyalaya's budding dancers and musicians.

This festivity will be culminated on the tenth day with a special Vijayadasami Puja and a new dawn of knowledge will be welcomed.

At Velammal,  Navaratri celebrations depict an insight to our rich culture and heritage amidst these hard times.

Miss Mokshitha.S,UKG- A of Velammal Vidyalaya, Karambakkam has made a Raaba Book of World Records recently  by telling stories in Briitish English in short duration for 4 minutes 5 stories with moral at this youngest age

This world record was officially announced by Raaba's media.,she was awarded with Silver medal, shield and certificate in the felicitation  ceremony  conducted recently. 

 

The 5 year old girl has narrated   4 stories in 5 minutes with moral  and she was awarded by our Tamilnadu Educational Minister,Thiru Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi recently.

Master Mithun Pranav, Std 2 of Velammal Main School,  Mogappair Campus has made an incredible win in  the TamilNadu State Chess Online Under 8 Open Chess Championship- 2021 by clinching Gold, held on 31st August, 2021

Pranav's  victory with a score 7.5/9 points in the event has qualified him to represent TamilNadu at National Under 8 Online Chess Championship that is scheduled between
 10th September and 12th  September 2021.

The championship was organised by Chennai District Chess Association which saw participation of players from all District Chess Association across the state.

The School Management lauds Pranav's tremendous feat and wishes him success in his chess career.

Velammal Main School, Mogappair Campus organised SPRINT- 36th Virtual Sports Fiesta  2021, digitally for the second time  on 29th August, 2021 at Velammal Nexus YouTube channel on the National Sports Day.

The sports day was dedicated to the Indian contestants of Tokyo Olympic 2020 for their commendable performances.

The one hour live streaming started off with a blaze of music and a burst of colours, as the screen was a fun-filled fest of energy and light.
Several thousands of students participated and staged in various activities.

Shri Vasudevan  Bhaskara, former  Indian Hockey Player our guest of honour presided over the event.

The virtual sports fiesta was declared open and it started off with flag hoisting, parade where students synchronised their feet with the band troop and lighting the Olympic torch of hope.

An oath was administered to the students to participate in sports with a sportsman  spirit. The sports day activities and challenges were designed to abide by the social distancing rules . Students actively participated in an array of challenges including Yoga, Push ups, Burbees, Jumping Jacks and many more.

The school ensured that all the events were completed confined to the Covid prevention norms. All the winners were awarded.

The fiesta continued with colourful culturals, pyramid formations which was eye feasting to the viewers.

A lively day filled with enthusiasm and sportsmanship which attracted thousands of viewers.

The sports day meet ended harmoniously with the National Anthem.

Miss Haritha Shree Venkatesh*, class VII of  Velammal  Vidyalaya ( Annexure), Mel Ayanambakkam  progresses to represent India at the *South Asian Junior ITF  Asia Tournament* to be held at Islamabad, Pakistan from 13th to 18th of September this year.

She won the distinction by scoring 603 points and the *2nd rank* at the All India Tennis Association, AITA.

The school management, students and staff congratulate her on the remarkable achievement and wish her astounding success at the tournament.

Scouts and Guides of Velammal Main School, Mugappair Campus as a gesture donate food to mark World Humanitarian Day 2021, a global celebration of helping people.

At these unprecedented times, as a token of reverence, Scouts and Guides took up the initiative to distribute food packets in and around their locality to the underprivileged, domestic workers, frontline workers etc.

Scouts and Guides spent quality time and gained the important social skill of being a responsible citizen.

Velammal Main campus  organised the Future Skills Awareness  Program  by Mr. Karunakaran, Future Skills Trainer on 11th August, 2021 in three - day skill set program scheduled for one hour  in the Google Meet platform for the students of Std 7 to 9.

The resource person addressed on different types of sensors and it's applications in various fields. He further spoke about collaborative  robots displaying the various models used in the service sector. The program was perfect as it boosted  the students  awareness on how future skills would help them standout in their career and also help them discover their inner talents. 

The empowering program received an overwhelming response as it helped the students to enhance practical expertise in specific areas.

 முகப்பேர் வேலம்மாள் மையப்பள்ளி, மாணவர்களின் எதிர்காலத் திறன்களை மேம்படுத்தும் வகையில் விழிப்புணர்வு நிகழ்ச்சி ஒன்றினை ஏற்பாடு செய்திருந்தது.
 திறன்வளர் பயிற்சி நிபுணர் திரு. கருணாகரன் அவர்கள் பங்கேற்ற இந்நிகழ்வு ஏழாம் வகுப்பு முதல் ஒன்பதாம் வகுப்பு வரையிலான மாணவர்கள் பங்கேற்றுப் பயன்பெறும் வகையில் மூன்று நாள் பயிற்சி வகுப்பாக ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தது. ஆகஸ்டு 11,2021 அன்று தொடங்கிய இந்நிகழ்வு ஒரு  மணிநேர கால அளவில் கூகுள் இணையவழி சந்திப்பின் வழியாக நடைபெற்றது.

இப்பயிற்சி வகுப்பில் திறன்வளர் பயிற்சியாளர் திரு. கருணாகரன் அவர்கள் பல்வேறு வகையான தொழில்துறை சென்சார்கள் பற்றி  உரையாற்றினார் மற்றும்  பல்வேறு துறைகளில் அதன் பயன்பாடுகள் பற்றியும் விளக்கினார். மேலும் சேவைத் துறையில் பயன்படுத்தப்படும் பல்வேறு கூட்டு ரோபோக்களின் மாதிரிகள் பற்றியும் அவர்  பேசினார். இந்த நிகழ்வானது  மிகவும் அவசியமானதாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது.

                                                            OPEN CHESS TOURNAMENT

Master Mrithunjay, Std 8 of Velmmal Vidyalaya, Alapakkam participated in the Budapest Open Chess Tournament 2021 and won a remarkable 34th position on the leader board. He also clinched the Best Player Award with a cash prize of Rs.10,000.

This international tournament which was held recently is a platform for aspiring chess players giving an opportunity to win FIDE Title Norms.
