KINARU meaning “The Well” – is a heart-warming Tamil children’s film, releasing this Children’s Day (November 14th). Produced by Madras Stories, the film continues the studio’s vision of creating powerful independent cinema while nurturing new technicians, fresh talent, and young filmmakers. After critically acclaimed titles like Burkha and Lineman — both celebrated in festival circuits, with Burkha winning 5 international awards — Kinaru marks their next step in championing original storytelling rooted in emotion, culture, and childhood innocence.
*THE STORY:*
The film follows four nine-year-old children who are constantly chased away for playing in someone else’s well. Tired of being beaten and humiliated, they decide to dig their own well on their land. But the protagonist’s grandmother believes their family is cursed with water and firmly stops them. How the children learn about identifying groundwater, save money for tools, convince adults, and fight their fears — while winning the grandmother’s trust — forms a moving and adventurous journey of hope, friendship, innocence, and determination.
