Pottuvil Asmin Recites Tribute Poem Before Vairamuthu at “Miller” Film Launch in Jaffna

The launch of the Tamil film “Miller” in Jaffna witnessed a defining literary moment, as acclaimed Sri Lankan Tamil poet and lyricist Pottuvil Asmin recited a special tribute poem in the presence of celebrated Tamil poet Kaviperarasu Vairamuthu.

The event, hosted at Valampuri Hotel, Jaffna, was organized by IBC Chairman and prominent entrepreneur Mr. Baskaran Kandiah, who is producing the film.

The ceremony was attended by several leading figures from the South Indian film fraternity, including

Director Pandiraj,

“Maharaja” director Nithilan,

Actor Ranjith,

Actor-director Singampuli, and

Producer P. L. Thenappan,

who extended their wishes to the team.

Prominent personalities from Sri Lanka’s Tamil arts, media, and cinema communities were also present, making the occasion a significant cultural gathering.

A highlight of the evening was Pottuvil Asmin’s emotional tribute titled “Vairamuthu – My Mother,” which received overwhelming applause from the audience. The poem celebrated the literary legacy and personal inspiration Vairamuthu has been to Asmin.

Reflecting on the moment, Pottuvil Asmin said:

“Seeing Kaviperarasu Vairamuthu in person is a dream for many. Reciting a poem in his presence is a blessing I cherish deeply.

His autobiography ‘Ithuvaarai Naan’ shaped my early literary journey. Later, when he wrote a message for my poetry collection ‘Paambugal Kulikkum Nathi’ in 2013, it became a milestone in my life.

My poem ‘Thirukkuvalai Sooriyan’ being included in his anthology ‘Kalaignar 100 – Kavithaigal 100’, honouring Kalaignar Karunanidhi’s centenary, remains a profound honour.

To stand before the poet I admire most and offer my tribute — this is the pinnacle of my literary life. It is a dream moment not only for poets in Sri Lanka, but also for many young Tamil poets across the world.”

Asmin expressed sincere gratitude to Mr. Baskaran Kandiah for organizing the event and facilitating “a rare and meaningful artistic encounter.”
