தேசிய தொழில்நுட்பக் கழகம்  (என்ஐடி) திருச்சியில் உள்ள 
வேதித் தொழில் நுட்ப   துறையின் தொழில்நுட்ப கருத்தரங்கு  (அல்கெமி ’21)   
23.04.2021 அன்று தொடங்கி வைக்கப்பட்டது. இந்த மூன்று நாள் நிகழ்வை 
என்ஐடி திருச்சியின் வேதித் தொழில் நுட்ப   சங்கம் - சிஇஏ ( Chemical 
Engineering Association (ChEA) ஆன்லைன் மூலம் ஏற்பாடு செய்து இருந்தது.

இந்த  தொழில்நுட்ப கருத்தரங்கத்தை (அல்கெமி ’21) வேதித் தொழில் நுட்ப   
துறையைச் சேர்ந்த பேராசிரியர் டி. கே. ராதாகிருஷ்ணன் 
வரவேற்புரையாற்றினார். அவர், உலகளவில் பல்வேறு பல்கலைக்கழகங்களில் வேதி பொறியியல் துறையின் பங்களிப்பு குறித்து விளக்கினார்.  அல்கெமி ’21 மாணவ  தலைவர் சூர்யா, ஒட்டுமொத்த ஒருங்கிணைப்பாளர் காண்டே ஆஷிஷ் மற்றும் மாணவர் 
அமைப்பாளர்களின் ஒட்டுமொத்த குழுவினருக்கும் அவர் தனது பாராட்டுகளைத்  தெரிவித்தார். மேலும் அல்கெமி ஆசிரிய ஆலோசகராக தொடர்ந்து ஆதரித்த  பேராசிரியர் சரத் சந்திரபாபுக்கு அவர் நன்றி தெரிவித்தார். இறுதியாக,  பார்வையாளர்களின் உற்சாகமான பங்கேற்புக்கு நன்றி தெரிவித்தார். இதைத்  தொடர்ந்து இயக்குநர் டாக்டர் மினி ஷாஜி தாமஸ் தொடக்கி வைத்து  சிறப்புரையாற்றினார். வேதித் தொழில் நுட்ப   துறையின் தலைவர் பேராசிரியர்  பி.கலைச்செல்வி துறையின் பல்வேறு முன்னேற்றங்களையும், சாதனைகளையும்  குறிப்பிட்டு, பங்கேற்பாளர்கள், அமைப்பாளர்கள் மற்றும் ஆசிரிய  உறுப்பினர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் இந்த நிகழ்வை பெரிய வெற்றியாக  மாற்றியமைத்ததற்கு நன்றி தெரிவித்தார். சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக இந்திய  வேதித் தொழில் நுட்ப   நிறுவனத்தின் தலைவர் பேராசிரியர் எம் கே ஜா கலந்து கொண்டு சிறப்பித்தார். இவர் பெட்ரோ கெமிக்கல் இன்ஜினியரிங் துறையின் நவீன தொழில்நுட்பத்தை விவரித்து உரை வழங்கினார்.

மற்றும் முதலாம் துறை தலைவர் நினைவாக தொடங்கப்பட்ட டாக்டர் எஸ். எச்.
இப்ராஹிம் அறக்கட்டளை சொற்பொழிவு (Endowment Lecture) அல்கெமி ' 21 
தொடக்க நாளிலும் நடைபெறும். இந்த ஆண்டு ஃப்ளூர் ஆஸ்திரேலியா லிமிடெட்  நிறுவனத்தின் முன்னணி பொறியியலாளர் திரு. ரவி சங்கரன், 'செயல்முறை  பாதுகாப்பு' குறித்த சொற்பொழிவை வழங்கினார். இந்த விரிவுரை மாணவர்களுக்கு  வேதித் பொறியயில் தொழில் குறித்து சிறந்த நுண்ணறிவுகளை வழங்கும்.

மூன்று நாட்களில் பல நிகழ்வுகள், காகித விளக்கக்காட்சிகள், வினாடி 
வினாக்கள்   மற்றும்  புகழ்மிக்க பிரபலங்களான  முனைவர் சுரேஷ்குமார் 
பாட்டியா, பேராசிரியர், குயின்ஸ்லாந்து பல்கலைக்கழகம்) மற்றும் முனைவர் 
சுதாசத்வா பாபு, இயக்குநர் அறிவியல் தொழில்துறை ஆராய்ச்சி கவுன்சில் 
போன்றவர்களின்   விரிவுரைகள் நடைபெறவுள்ளது. மாட்லாப் (MATLAB), ஆஸ்பென்  (ASPEN)  போன்ற பல பயிலரங்குகளும் (worshop) மற்றும் ஆய்வு கட்டுரை  எழுதுதல் ஆகியவற்றிக்கு சிறந்த வல்லுநர்களால் கைகோர்த்து பயிற்சி  அளிக்கவும்  ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளன.  இது அனைத்தும் வேதி பொறியயில்  மாணவர்களுக்கும் பயனளிக்கும்.

அல்கெமி , 2013 முதல் வெற்றிகரமாக நடத்தப்பட்டு வருகிறது, இந்தியா 
முழுவதும் உள்ள பல்வேறு நிறுவனங்களில் இருந்து ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் 1000 
க்கும் மேற்பட்ட மாணவர்களின் கவனத்தை ஈர்த்து வருகிறது. இந்த ஆண்டு,   
COVID-19 தொற்று நிலைமையின்  போதும்  கூட இந்த தொழில்நுட்ப 
கருத்தரங்குக்கு  (அல்கெமி ’21)  அதிக எண்ணிக்கையிலான பதிவுகள்  மற்றும்  பங்கேற்பாளர்கள் வந்துள்ளார்கள். முடிவில் மாணவ தலைவர் பி.ஜே. சுரேஷ் 
நன்றியுரை ஆற்றினார்.

The technical symposium of the Department of Chemical Engineering at NIT Trichy

The technical symposium of the Department of Chemical Engineering at NIT Trichy,  Alchemy, was inaugurated on 23rd April, 2021. The three day event is organized by the Chemical Engineering Association (ChEA) of NIT Trichy. Alchemy shifted to the online platform this year to continue
spreading knowledge and imparting a sense of interest in the field of chemical engineering,
despite all challenges.

The event kickstarted with an address by Prof. T. K. Radhakrishnan from the department of Chemical Engineering. He addressed the audience thanking them for their enthusiastic participation. He also noted his appreciation to the chairperson of Alchemy, Surya, the overall coordinator, Kande Ashish and the entire team of student organisers behind Alchemy. He thanked Prof. Sarat Chandrababu for his continued support as the faculty advisor of Alchemy. Prof. Sarat Chandrababu has been a major support to the symposium and has always been present during all technical activities. This was followed by the presidential address by the director, Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas. Prof. P. Kalaichelvi, the head of the Department of Chemical Engineering was also present and thanked all the participants, organizers and members of the faculty for their support in making the event a grand success. 

Prof. M  K Jha, the president of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers was  invited as the chief guest. He gave an enlightening speech elaborating the cutting-edge technology in the field of petrochemical engineering.

The Dr. S. H. Ibrahim Endowment Lecture, initiated in memory of the founding Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, will also take place during the inaugural day of Alchemy. This year Mr. Ravi Sankaran, lead engineer at Fluor Australia Ltd, has been invited to 
give the lecture on 'Process Safety'. He is an experienced industry personnel and this lecture will give students great insights about the chemical engineering industry.

Multiple events will take place over the course of the three days. This includes paper presentations, quizzes and guest lectures by eminent personalities like Suresh Kumar Bhatia (Professor, University 
of Queensland) and Sudhhasatwa Babu (Director of Council of Scientific Industrial Research). Several workshops have  also been organised. They will provide  hands-on training in Matlab, Aspen and research  paper writing. This will be beneficial to all the chemical engineering students.

Alchemy has been conducted successfully since 2013 and attracts over 1000 students every year from different institutions all over India. The symposium witnessed high numbers of registrations this year too  and is off to a great start even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

NIT Tiruchirappalli retains the top position in TEQIP - III Programme

16.04.2021: NIT Tiruchirappalli consecutively top performed in TEQIP III similar to TEQIP I and II. Based on the recently conducted performance audit by Prof N.C.SHIVAPRAKASH, Professor, IISc Bangalore, the audit score obtained was 1.03 for a scale of 3.0 (1.00 being the highest score) which is top among all NITs and all Govt. Institutes which participated in TEQIP III said Dr Mini Shaji Thomas, Director of  NIT Trichy.

Third phase of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (referred to as TEQIP-III) implemented during 2018-2021, in addition to improving the quality of Engineering Education in existing institutions has a special consideration for Low Income States and Special Category States and support to strengthen few affiliated technical universities to improve their policy, academic and 
management practices.

Being top performer in TEQIP-I and II, NIT Tiruchirappalli was selected for TEQIP- III with a funding of Rs. 7.7 crores and as the mentor Institute for Dr.B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology,
Pahargaon, Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Under twinning arrangement, NIT Tiruchirappalli has been supporting DBRAIT in various activities such as SAR preparation for NBA Accreditation, Procurement of Goods and enable faculty members to  pursue higher studies (M.S. and Ph.D.) at NIT Trichy. Students of  DBRAIT also share the NIT Tiruchirappalli laboratory facilities and get trained in the Siemens Centre for Automation.

TEQIP -III Project focus on three objectives : (a) Improving quality and equity in engineering institutions in focus states viz. 7 Low Income States, eight states in the North-East of India, three Hill 
states viz. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Andaman  and Nicobar Islands (b) System-level initiatives to strengthen sector governance and performance which include widening the scope of  Affiliating Technical Universities (ATUs) to improve their policy, academic and management practices towards affiliated institutions, and (c) Twinning Arrangements to Build Capacity and Improve Performance of  institutions and ATUs participating in focus states.

Some of the activities under the scope of the TEQIP- III project are:

Procurement of Goods (equipment, furniture, books Learning Resources,software and minor items) and minor civil works, Improvement in Teaching, Learning and Research competence, Improve student learning, Student employability, Increasing faculty productivity and motivation, Establishing a Twinning arrangements with institutions under Sub-component 1.1 to build capacity and improved performance.

Under TEQIP – III various activities were carried out at NIT Trichy to benefit students and faculty. 54 B.Tech. students  visited various universities in Canada for internship under R&D head during May to 
July 2019 as part of the  Student Mobility Programme by MITACS Canada & MHRD. GATE training was provided to B.Tech. final year students in the year 2019 and 2020.

Many students craked GATE with very high scores. E-books have been procurred and made available to students to access from their place of  stay.

Workshops like “Faculty Startups & Entrepreneurship, Capacity Building of Women Managers in Higher Education, Computer Skills” to non-teaching staffs, were conducted. Faculty Induction Training Programme was conducted for all newly recruited faculty members. International conferences were organised by almost all departments with Teqip-III support, bringing experts to the campus. The papers 
presented were published in reputed journals. Orientation Programme for the first year B.Tech. students of all branches were conducted.The Director congratulated the team of TEQIP III for adding yet 
another feather to the NIT Cap.

National Seminar on Women in Science and Technology Valedictory

The formal session of the concluding day of the seminar was handled by  Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas, the director of NIT Tiruchirappalli. The  director's lecture titled "Wake up, Grab the Opportunities" turned out  to be an inspirational one for the delegates as she recounted her  success story of surviving all odds and becoming a woman leader. Being  the only woman director in among the 32 NITs in India, Dr. Thomas  spoke at length on the fact that women need to work much harder than  men in order to succeed. Citing her own experience of simultaneously  handling personal and professional duties and responsibilities (as a  mother, teacher, and administrator among other roles) she observed  that women need to fix their priorities. According to Dr. Thomas, it  is important for women to be visible and innovative in their  profession to be a role model for others. The director concluded her  lecture by reminding the delegates that "Wake up, grab the  opportunities" was her success mantra.

In the following session which started at 11.30 a.m., Ms. Sashi  Sairaman, CEO, MTAB Technology Centre Chennai, gave a lecture on  women's challenges in the corporate world. Ms.Sairaman began her  
lecture by noting that women work under tremendous pressure in the  corporate world. Though the corporate world is far more accommodative  for women compared to mainstream society,there is an urgent need to  
develop an ecosystem for them to work comfortably. She also contended  that women need to sustain their competitive attitude and willingness  to learn throughout their careers. Narrating from her personal  experiences, Ms. Sairaman also remarked that the manufacturing industry is a men-dominated space. She went on to caution the  listeners that women shouldn't be complacent and that there is no need  for the womenfolk to be guilt-ridden for prioritizing their career  over family and children. Ms. Sairaman's lecture was followed by the  valedictory session.

In the valedictory session, Dr. M. Venkata Kirthiga and Dr. K.N.  Sheeba, the members of the coordinating committee, presented a brief  review of the seminar. It was followed by feedback from participants,  
certificate distribution, and felicitation of the speakers. The  session concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. K.M. Meera  Sherrifa Begum.

NITT SIH 2019 Inauguration

Shri. Prakash Javadekar, honourable HRD minister inaugurated and  
addressed the nodal centres and the student teams

National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, one of the nodal  
centres selected by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD),  
takes its pride in hosting the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon  
(SIH2019) Software Edition on March 2nd and 3rd, 2019.

This event which is supported by the Prime Minister’s Office, is the  
world’s biggest Open Innovation Model, Software competition and is a  
part of a nationwide initiative of the MHRD to involve the brain trust  
of the nation, the technology-savvy students, to come up with  
innovative and feasible solutions to industry-related problems.
This is the third edition of the Hackathon initiated by MHRD to unveil  
the unique expertise of the young minds of India. This year’s edition  
has more than 1300 teams (eight members per team) racing against the  
clock, in 48 different centres in India, to come up with practical  
solutions in under 36 hours.

NIT, Tiruchirappalli is hosting 8 problem statements provided by the  
esteemed organizations like Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) and  
Chennai District Small Scale Industries Association (CDISSIA).  The  
exuberant 32 teams encompassing 121 boys and 77 girls from various  
institutions across the country along with two mentors representing  
each institute are participating in the Grand finale hosted in NIT-T.

The Grand finale was inaugurated by the chief guest Mr. S. P.  
Jayanthan, Regional Director, TEMENOS India Pvt. Ltd., Chennai, a 1982  
BE ECE Alumnus. Mr. Jayanthan was enticed to be back in his alma mater  
and shared his reminiscent stay at the then REC, Trichy. He added that  
he could see the scintillating minds working for the brilliant set of  
solutions to progress our country to the next level. Dean (SW), Dr.  
Samson Mathew in his welcome address, appreciated the teams, who  
travelled across the states and wished them a very comfortable stay at  
NIT-T. He also thanked the sponsors of the event: CTS, Data foundry,  
SBI, ICICI, Unibic cookies and Pepsi.
Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas, the Director of NIT-T, congratulated the  
vibrant team of NIT-T, who worked for hours together and made this  
venture possible. The event is one of the major initiatives of MHRD.  
She wished that the teams should work to solve the perennial problems  
of the industry and society. She also assured that NIT-T will render  
all help to make this happen and further, she expressed that she would  
love to see the students becoming entrepreneurs to serve the society  
at large.

The stage was shared by Dr. Bhasker, Mr. Raman Narasimhan, Vice  
President, CTS and Mr. Abhijeet Khandagale, MHRD Representative.

The event was also inaugurated through video conferencing from JECRC  
University, Jaipur.

Dr. Anand Deshpande, Chairman and MD, Persistent Systems exhibited his  
gratitude to the referees, who evaluated more than 34, 000 teams  
contributed around 50,000 ideas. He added that this will be a life  
changing event for students, who aspire to innovate. He hoped to see  
best solutions from the teams to reach industry. The students have the  
opportunity to work on challenges faced within the private sector  
organizations and create world-class solutions for some of the top  
companies in the world. AICTE Chairman Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe  
congratulated the teams who made it to the finals. He addressed the  
students to create Digital India through innovative solutions and  
besides, he mentioned that he could see the future entrepreneurs and  
CEOs among the teams.

The Higher Education Secretary, R Subramaniam, who spoke on the  
occasion remembered that it started as a small effort and had become a  
national movement over 3 years. Many countries are showing interest to  
work with India on Hackathon. Indo-Singapore Hackathon happened in  
2018 is one such event.  He added that Smart India Hackathon 2019 is  
all about synergy; synergy within student community, synergy between  
students and society, synergy between academia and industry & synergy  
between private and government institutions. He also mentioned that it  
is the cognitive skills that matters the most and asked the students  
to think out of the box.

up with solutions that can make our country flourish so that India can  
become a world leader in digital solutions. He remembered that around  
40,000 students participated in the first edition of Hackathon  
conducted by MHRD in 2017. He further added that this is New India and  
this is the world’s largest hackathon and only innovations will take  
our country forward. The success in hackathon will evolve a real  
system working on real-life problems using the real talent-pool in  
education. He asked the students to show case their power in science,  
innovation and technology.

Technology Based Entrepreneurship Development Programme concluded

Technology-Based Entrepreneurship Development Programme (TEDP 2018) jointly by CEDI, EDII and DST-NIMAT Concluded

The six-week Technology-based Entrepreneurship Development Program for aspiring entrepreneurs organized by Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Incubation (CEDI), National Institute of Technology,  

Tiruchirappalli sponsored by Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI)under DST NIMAT Project 2018-19, concluded on 24th November 2018. 20 participants between the age group of 22 to 45 years actively  

participated in TEDP, which was so as to enable them to start there venture. During the training programme the candidates got an opportunity to choose a varied range of activities. The training programme was modelled for manufacturing and services sectors so as to enable the aspirants to choose from a range of entrepreneurial  

activities viable in their respective areas.

Director NITT, Dr.Mini Shaji Thomas, while interacting with each participant, encouraged them to utilize the facilities in our institute and wish them success in their business ventures. She emphasized the need for encouraging entrepreneurial skills and motivated the participants to become entrepreneurs in this district  

and create jobs rather than seeking.

The TEDPs are generally aimed at providing lessons on Motivational Inputs Managerial Inputs, performance improvement as well as business cum sector specific Technology development training to the participants. Sharing their experiences at the valediction ceremony, the trained aspirants said that the TEDP has given them a great deal of confidence to start their entrepreneurial journey.

One of the Participant Prof. Sakthivel has developed 2D Solar cell and the training program had made me think further for project commercialization.   Another participant Ms.Gajalakshmi and Mr Karthik are working on the Herbal Napkin manufacturing. They said that the training program made us think on upgrading us for enhancing  

technology development towards manufacturing on par with state of art  technologies.
