SBI Foundation announces slew of measures to fight COVID-19 battle

  • Committed Rs.30 cr to implement various COVID relief programmes all across India
  • Providing training and mentoring 50000 healthcare professionals with Project Echo India

As the Nation faces an unprecedented challenge, true to its vision and mission SBI Foundation, the CSR arm of State Bank of India, has committed Rs.30 cr to implement various COVID relief programmes all across India. SBI Foundation has geared up to assist in the war against COVID and has planned the following interventions:


·         Food relief support
·         Strengthening healthcare infrastructure
·         Capacity building  of healthcare workers
·         Research on COVID related projects in tie up with IISc.
To implement these initiatives, SBI Foundation has set up a new flagship program on Health theme. Distribution of ventilators, PPEs etc to critical hospitals and supply of 10000 freshly cooked meals daily in 4 centres of India have already been initiated. SBI Launching of Project Echo India in partnership with ECHO India and MoHFW to provide training and mentoring to 50000 healthcare professionals across various states, has been another achievement by SBI Foundation. Another program launched is the India COVID-19 Healthcare Alliance (ICHA) with USAID, a health care initiative to supplement the efforts of the State and Central Governments.

Today, when the COVID-19 pandemic has posed unprecedented challenges for the Country, we hope our humble initiatives would make a difference in our collective fight against COVID-19. SBI is constructively engaging in collaborative and proactive action to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in India. Our pensioners have gone the extra mile by contributing generously to the COVID relief fund in response to my appeal and have become a true force for good at this time of national crisis. We would like to extend a personal thank you to all of them, our partners for their added support and encourage more corporates and public sector enterprises to join us in our war against COVID-19.”

A COVID-19 relief fund was also launched by SBI Foundation to mobilise funds for fighting COVID-19 pandemic. SBI Mahila Samiti President Smt. Reeta Agarwal exhorted the wives of employees to donate for the cause and there was overwhelming response resulting in huge collection. The funds will be used to supply ventilators to critical hospitals all across India and in providing food kits to the needy.

Smt Reeta Agarwal said, “This contribution signifies that the ladies club members all over India vigorously rallied and united to mobilize funds to support those suffering from the effects of COVID-19. I believe it is our duty as relatively more fortunate citizens of India, to rise to the occasion to mitigate the pain and anguish of our fellow citizens. Our members all across India are proud to be able to help make a difference in the fight against this virus."

SBI Foundation, was set up in 2015 with the aim of reinforcing the Bank’s commitment to enriching the lives of the marginalized and be the leading institution for promoting growth and equality. Within a short span of 4 years SBIF has worked with the most vulnerable and underprivileged communities across India facilitating their integration into the mainstream development process of the country. SpiceJet operates maiden freighter flight carrying

SpiceJet operates maiden freighter flight carrying critical medical essentials to Kuala Lumpur


·         Carries eight tons of essential medical supplies from Hyderabad to Kuala Lumpur
·         SpiceJet has transported over 4650 tons of cargo since nation-wide lockdown began

SpiceJet, the country’s biggest air cargo operator, operated its maiden freighter flight carrying around eight tons of critical medical essentials including medicines and other medical supplies from Hyderabad to Kuala Lumpur. The airline deployed its Boeing 737 freighter aircraft for the assignment which reached Kuala Lumpur early Wednesday morning.

Ajay Singh, Chairman & Managing Director, SpiceJet, said, “SpiceJet is committed to ensuring that crucial medical and other supplies are transported timely and efficiently by our dedicated fleet of freighters and passenger aircraft. With the addition of Kuala Lumpur to our international cargo network, SpiceJet is now operating regularly to over fifteen international destinations carrying essential and medical supplies. Securing the supply chain is extremely important in these unpredicted times and we are glad that we have been able to maintain the mobility of vital supplies with ease, both domestically and internationally.”


In its continuous efforts to mitigate the shortage and supply disruption of essential supplies and medical equipment, SpiceJet has till date transported over 4650 tons of cargo on more than 635 flights since the nation-wide lockdown began. Of the 635 flights operated, 228 were international cargo flights.

SpiceJet has operated special cargo flights to and from Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Bangkok, Colombo, Dubai, Kabul, Myanmar, Sharjah, Male, Kuala Lumpur, Ukraine and a host of other places.

SpiceJet operated the country’s first cargo-on-seat flight on April 7 carrying vital supplies in passenger cabin & belly space. Since then, the airline has been regularly deploying its B737 and Q400 passenger aircraft to carry cargo in the passenger cabin.

SpiceXpress, SpiceJet’s dedicated cargo arm, has been regularly transporting surgical supplies, sanitizers, face masks, coronavirus rapid test kits, IR thermometers etc. and providing doorstep deliveries of essential supplies, medicines and medical equipment to various cities in India. The airline has helped Indian farmers maintain continuity of their supply chains by operating special cargo flights to take farm produce, fresh fruits and vegetables to various domestic and international destinations.

On March 29, SpiceJet operated a special flight between Delhi and Jodhpur to facilitate transportation of 136 Indian passengers evacuated from COVID-19 hit Iran to a Government quarantine facility in the city.

SpiceJet operated a special charter flight on March 27 from Delhi to Coimbatore on Government's request and transported a Hazmat suit that is helping local authorities replicate and start local manufacturing.

Flipkart, India’s homegrown e-commerce marketplace, and Meru, India’s trusted app-based ride-hailing cab operator in which Mahindra & Mahindra holds a majority stake, have partnered to provide people access to grocery & essential items as people stay indoors supporting ‘social distancing during the ongoing lockdown. In line with the government guidelines, Meru is providing its Ozone Sanitized fleet to help Flipkart with their deliveries. The dispatch hubs have been installed with ‘Ozone Air Purifier’, encouraging all driver-partners to sanitize their cabs, thus maintaining high standards of hygiene. Meru driver-partners will undergo Flipkart’s training module for a better understanding of its processes for safe and timely delivery of the grocery items, while Meru is educating and updating its driver-partners on various preventive measures like using alcohol-based sanitizers and wearing face masks to curb the spread of the virus.

YES BANK reinforces its commitment to work with health authorities and the Government to support communities during COVID-19. Building upon the Bank’s previously announced support to the COVID-19 relief efforts, the Bank has partnered with Akshaya Patra to support its efforts to provide cooked meals to daily wage workers, migrant labourers and the low income & marginalized section affected by the current lockdown.

Towards this, the Bank has enabled redemption of YES BANK Credit and Debit Cards reward points towards contribution to Akshaya Patra’s COVID-19 Relief Feeding Programme. Customers can now redeem their rewards points in denominations of INR 250, INR 500 and INR 1000 on www.yesrewardz.com/ to support three meal packages of 10, 20 and 40 meals, respectively. All Donations are eligible for 50% tax deduction under section 80(G). In solidarity, employees have voluntarily contributed an amount equal to one day’s salary to the PM CARES Fund to support ongoing relief efforts.
