 Xiaomi Reaffirms Commitment to Data Security and Privacy

Xiaomi, the world's leading consumer electronics and smart manufacturing company, recommitted itself to protecting customer data during its annual Security and Privacy Awareness Month completed today. It held employee training events and expert seminars at the Xiaomi Technology Park in Beijing, China and at Xiaomi's Technology Operation Center in Singapore.

This was the third consecutive year that it held special classes for its engineers and other employees and led discussions with industry executives, IT security experts, and the public about the importance of data security and user privacy protection. Xiaomi also released updated white papers on security and privacy along with its annual transparency report detailing its data security activities.

The purpose of the month-long series of events was to bolster its user security and privacy protection practices and to build trust in Xiaomi’s products through transparency and accountability.

Xiaomi has built a comprehensive governance structure to protect data security and user privacy. This involves cooperation between cybersecurity experts, smartphone operating system engineers, lawyers, and legal compliance experts. Overseeing these specialists is a Security and Privacy Committee led by senior executives. 

Cui Baoqiu, Xiaomi Vice President and Chairman of the Xiaomi Security and Privacy Committee, called data security and user privacy protection a key to the long-term, sustainable development of the company's global business. "Protecting the data security and privacy of our users is the top priority,” he said. “Our customers care about this issue more than any other. Xiaomi is committed to offering safe and reliable Android smartphones and IoT products."

Eugene Liderman, Director of Android Security Strategy of Google, highlighted Xiaomi's contribution to the Android system. "One of Android's biggest strengths is the diverse ecosystem of partners. Xiaomi is a great example of this and it's great to see their continued investment in cyber security hygiene across their product portfolio", he added.

Professor Liu Yang, School of Computer Science and Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, said, "As the security challenge is becoming the focus of many technology discussions, industry stakeholders attach more importance to the urgency of managing vulnerabilities at hardware, software and even in the massive open source space. Xiaomi has made tremendous effort to address the issue, safeguarding users with technology expertise, and continuously exploring new methods for better data protection."

With the world's largest consumer IoT platform, Xiaomi is constantly working to improve IoT security and privacy protections. Xiaomi held its fifth annual IoT security summit on June 29 and 30 in Beijing. Industry executives and experts discussed a wide range of issues from data security governance frameworks and cross-border data transfers to the security of internet-connected electric vehicles and solutions for software supply chain security threats.

During the June event, Xiaomi announced that its Electric Scooter 4 Pro obtained IoT Security Rating Gold level certification from Underwriter Laboratories Inc, an international safety research institute based in the U.S. This designation made Electric Scooter 4 Pro the world's first electric scooter with such a high-level safety rating. The certificate also indicated that the security baseline of Xiaomi's IoT product development is in line with international standards.

Xiaomi created its Security and Privacy Committee in 2014. In 2016, Xiaomi became the first Chinese company to receive certification from TrustArc. Xiaomi adopted the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of European Union compliance assessment in 2018. In 2019, Xiaomi security and privacy practices were certificated on ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27018. Last year, Xiaomi published its first transparency report, making it the first Android smartphone brand to do so. Xiaomi this year obtained the certificate of registration of NIST CSF (National Institute of Standards and Technology, Cybersecurity Framework), further strengthening its data security protection capabilities.

OPPO’s camera innovation has reached new heights with the development of its neural processing unit MariSilicon X. PROPRIETARY ALGORITHMS

OPPO’s engineers have developed algorithms that render accurate Indian skin tones and even create Bokeh Flare Portrait Videos. OPPO's innovation in smartphone camera tech has now ascended new heights with the development of its MariSilicon X Neural Processing Unit (NPU) which is designed for computational photography. This chip—developed over three years and comprising 400 patent applications—packs 3.6 billion transistors and can perform up to 18 trillion operations per second (18 TOPS). OPPO built MariSilicon X on the cutting-edge 6nm chip architecture that delivers an incredible 11.6 TOPS per watt for low-power consumption even in the most demanding tasks. 

It is capable of real-time lossless AI processing in the Bayer RAW domain with image data from the 50MP IMX766 rear camera sensor. Turkish Airlines and IndiGo resumed their

 Turkish Airlines and IndiGo resumed their existing codeshare partnership

IndiGo, India’s largest airline, and Turkish Airline, the national flag carrier airline of Türkiye, have resumed their codeshare flights and partnership by opening the sale earlier this month. Scheduled operations will be restarted in a phased manner with the first flight effective yesterday. The codeshare is considered as Bilateral Free Flow Codeshare wherein both the airlines will place its code on another’s flights. The agreement will enable both the carriers to provide more flexibility of choice to the customers on sectors between India and Istanbul, amongst others.

In the 1st phase, both the airlines are open for sale, with Turkish Airlines as the marketing carrier, and IndiGo as the operating carrier. Turkish Airlines will be placing its code on trunk route flights operated by 6E on the Delhi-Istanbul route and later from six domestic destinations in India including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata.

Currently, Turkish Airlines operates a daily flight on Delhi-Istanbul and Mumbai-Istanbul routes, whereas IndiGo operates a daily flight on Delhi-Istanbul route and is also planning to add a second frequency from August 2022. This codeshare between the two airlines provide customers with the convenience of purchasing connecting flights using one reservation, and a smooth ticketing, check-in, boarding and baggage check experience during the entire journey.

Federal Bank, today opened 10 new branches at various locations spread across the States of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana and Gujarat. The branches were opened at Sundarapuram, Thiruvannamalai, Saidpet, Senur, Alagusenai, Kalpudhur, Su pallipattu, in Tamil Nadu, Visakhapatnam/ Madhurwada in Andhra Pradesh, Sangareddy in Telangana and Mehasana in Gujarat. The Bank intends to open many more new branches in this fiscal year across India.

 

 

 

Speaking on the occasion, Nandakumar V, Head of Branch Banking, Federal Bank said, “Opening of 10 branches today at various locations of TN, AP, Telangana and Gujarat is part of footprint expansion of the Bank for the current year. Further, the Bank is planning to open 15 branches on a single day around 15th August, to commemorate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. Opening of new branches will continue on an ongoing basis in the coming quarters of the financial year.”

IndiGo, India’s leading carrier, announced additional frequencies between Delhi- Leh, Delhi-Srinagar, and Lucknow-Pantnagar effective from July 01 and July 15, 2022, respectively. The Delhi-Leh flight will operate daily at 4:20am from July 01 and will operate at 4:30am from August 01, 2022. To cater to the high demand IndiGo will be adding two additional daily flights for Srinagar from the period between 01 July till 11 August 2022, departing from Delhi at 05:20 and 21:30 and from Srinagar at 07:20 and 23:15. These flights will strengthen IndiGo’s network in northern India. 

Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Chief Strategy and Revenue Officer, IndiGo said, “We are pleased to strengthen our network by adding frequencies on Delhi-Leh, Delhi-Srinagar and Lucknow-Pantnagar routes, catering to increased demand for travel to Ladakh, Uttarakhand and Kashmir. Delhi – Leh is one of the most popular routes and we have been witnessing high demand on this route, with this new addition we will have 3 daily flights from Delhi. We are getting a good response to our Lucknow- Pantnagar flight and with the increase in frequency, this flight would now operate five days a week. These new frequencies will not only promote tourism, trade, and commerce in the states, but also make travel affordable to these destinations through additional capacity. We will strive to stay true to our promise of affordable fares, on-time performance, courteous and hassle-free service across wide network, onboard our lean clean flying machines.”

These flights will cater to leisure travelers who constantly look for offbeat locations with affordable flying options. Increased connectivity to Leh will enhance the tourist impressions in serene destinations like the Royal Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, Pangong Tso Lake, Khardung La Pass, Thiksey Monastery, Nubra Valley, Hemis National Park, Hemis Monastery, Triveni Floating Market, Magnetic Hill, Phugtal Monastery and Chadar Trek. Enhanced accessibility to Pantnagar will significantly reduce the time taken to reach tourist destinations like Ranikhet, Mukteshwar, Mussoorie, Almora, Kausani, Ramgarh, Munsiyari, Abott Mount, Chaukari, Lohaghat, Berinag, and Jeolikot. Strengthening access to Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir would provide tourists with increased on-time access to landmark destinations like Sonamarg, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Aru Valley, Dal Lake, Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden and Betaab Valley.

Renault Nissan India conserves 50,000 litres of water daily from sewage decanter facility

The facility will conserve over 5.7 lakh kilolitres of water per annum

Taking forward its commitment to water sustainability, the Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Limited (RNAIPL) plant in Oragadam, Chennai, is now conserving a daily 50,000 litres (50 kilolitres) of water from its sewage treatment plant by using a decanter facility recently installed on its premises. The facility, which separates water from sewage waste, is mitigating water wastage and reducing water demand for RNAIPL’s industrial operations.

The 50 kilolitres conserved are in addition to water savings from RNAIPL’s many water sustainability initiatives implemented at the plant. These initiatives include minimisation of water used per car, recycling, and reuse of plant wastewater, and increase in the use of innovative water sources, which include storage and filtration of storm and rainwater through rainwater harvesting ponds.  Cumulatively, plant initiatives have enabled RNAIPL to conserve an estimated 5.76 lakh kilo litres of rainwater and 87% of water saved.  

In addition, Nissan customers have helped reduce car wash water consumption by 45%, by opting for the company's advanced foam car wash technique instead of a traditional car wash. The foam wash initiative, a long-run initiative started by Nissan in 2014, has been provided across Nissan service centres nationwide.

Commenting on the initiative, Biju Balendran – MD & CEO, RNAIPL, said, “At RNAIPL, we pride ourselves on our strong history of water sustainability, in India and across the world. Our investments in numerous cost-effective water conservation solutions like the installation of three rainwater harvesting ponds, PRV (pressure reducing valve) installation and treated sewage recycling system underline our commitment to addressing water scarcity. It is a priority of our global Nissan Green Program, which calls for a reduction of water intake at production sites and improving wastewater recycling efficiency.”
