*Vembu to have worldwide theatrical release on May 23*
*“We Celebrate Malayalam Films, But Overlook Tamil Cinema” – Director Justin Prabhu Expresses Concern*
*Manjal Cinemas Golden Suresh and S. Vijayalakshmi presents “Vembu”*
Debut filmmaker Justin Prabhu’s directorial features Madras fame Hari Krishnan (Johny) in the lead role with Sheela playing the female lead character. Marimuthu, Jaya Rao, Pariyerum Perumal-Karnan fame Janaki alongside many others will be seen playing the pivotal roles.
While the film’s postproduction work is already completed, the makers are planning for release shortly.
Uthra Productions (Hari Uthra) that has been consistently releasing many movies, and witnessing tremendous success is releasing this film on May 23 across many screens. On the other hand, the film has been screened at various international film festivals.
Likewise, Hari Krishnan has won the Best Male Actor Award and Sheela - The Best Female Actor Award at Ahmadabad International Film Festival. The entire crew is elated for having found an incredible accreditation through these honours.
Filmmaker Justin Prabhu says, “Both the lead actors Hari Krishnan and Sheela have been consistently choosing unique content-driven roles in their career.
In the same manner, the role that Hari Krishnan has donned in this film will defiantly surprise the audiences. The honours of Best Actor Award at Ahmadabad Film Festival has exhibited this fact significantly.
Recently, actor Vikram raving about Hari Krishnan has created a huge sensation.
Actress Sheela’s ‘To-Let’ has won more than 100 International Film Festival Awards and her ‘Mandela’ won National Awards. With ‘Vembu’, she has made her first appearance in the Film Festival and has won the Best Female Actor Award at Ahmadabad.
So far, many have been valuing the International Film Awards, but I feel our own National Film Festival Awards are precious.
We often celebrate the beautiful movies of Malayalam film industry, but we fail to sing praises and value the best movies created in our own Tamil film industry.
It’s great to see Tourist Family winning everyone’s hearts.
Movies like this have social-centric issues as the backdrop, but have witnessed commercial success as well. Sivakarthikeyan’s commercial hit movie ‘Don’ too embellished the beauty of father-son bonding.
The current trend of Tamil Cinema has always been inclined to the emotional and sentimental concepts, and audiences are loving it. Vembu will be one among this league that will endorse the social values as the core concept laced with sentiments.
This is not just a film for women — it is a story for the entire generation.
In today’s world, it emphasizes how a father should raise his daughter with safety and dignity, the importance of giving her the respect she deserves, and how both husband and wife must understand and support each other through life’s circumstances. It also highlights how children, even as they chase their dreams, should never forget to respect their parents. The film is filled with such heartfelt and meaningful moments.
So far, we have been witnessing Hari Krishan as the North Chennai boy, but this film will exhibit him in a village based character. He took laborious efforts in gaining the rural linguistic skills and body language & mannerisms for this role.
Theater Lab Jaya Rao is playing Sheela’s father character in this movie.
Pariyerum Perumal, Karnan and Vaazhai fame Janaki will be seen playing an emotional role it his movie.
A. Kumaran of ‘Thanga Magan’ fame is handling cinematography and his visuals will be highly appreciated in this film. ‘Rebel’ fame Manikandan is composing music. Miruthan fame K.J. Venkatarman is overseeing editing works for this film. The others in the technical crew include Gopi Karunanidhi as the art director.
The producers of the film, Mr. Golden Suresh and Mrs. S. Vijayalakshmi, are the true driving force behind the quality of this project — a film that's now worthy of being submitted to prestigious awards. Their constant encouragement and wholehearted support made all the difference.
Despite this being my debut as a director, both Sheela and Harikrishnan never treated it that way. Their dedication and full cooperation throughout the shoot helped us complete the film on schedule.
As of now, preparations are underway for the release of Vembu on May 23, with Hari Uthraa set to release the film on a large scale. I truly believe the audience will connect with and appreciate this film.”
