While Manoj Bajpayee is all excited for his upcoming psychological thriller-drama Gali Guleiyan, the writer-director, Dipesh Jain feels equally satisfied with the actor’s presence in the film. Ahead of the release tomorrow, the director now opens up about the casting of Manoj Bajpayee in Gali Guleiyan and elaborates on how important it was for the actor to agree to the script.

Dipesh had weaved the plot keeping Manoj Bajpayee in mind but to our surprise, he was the last one to be approached. He knew Manoj hasn’t enacted such a character in past and could be skeptical to take up such a challenge.

Elaborating the same, Dipesh added, “Manoj was the last one to get cast. Usually, in independent films, you cast a popular face, and then package the whole film. I had got Neeraj Kabi, Ranvir Shorey, Shahana Goswami, and others. We were two months away from the shoot but we couldn’t get hold of Manoj. As a writer, it is such a complex character and I was attached to it, and luckily a friend called Manoj. He read it and liked it.”

Dipesh had Manoj in his mind when he wrote the script. Expounding his vision and the order in which he wanted things to fall into, he quoted, “I have seen quite a lot of his films, but when I was writing this character, it wasn’t based on any of his previous roles. I was concerned that if he said no, then it would be tough for me to imagine someone else in this role. I wanted the audience to understand what it would feel like to be lonely and feel his paranoia. Manoj’s performance was crucial because when you’re only asking someone to pull in the audience through their physicality, not many people can do that.”

Brains behind creating the soundscapes for the psychological thriller, Gali Guleiyan

A man following shadows in the dark alleys and a snap back to reality, accompanied by an eerie background score. The atmospheric noise, crushing silence of the sunken place! It is all created by the sound masters who believe in designing the tunes.

International composer, Dana Niu and score-mixer, Daniel Kresco who has blockbusters like Arrival, Hacksaw, The Dark Knight Rises, etc to his credits, have now come together to showcase their excellent sound blending skills in Manoj Bajpayee’s upcoming psychological thriller, Gali Guleiyan. They have created a background score that makes the movie experience immersive and emotional at the same time. Joining the bandwagon is Robert Kellough, the sound-editor, who after making marvels in films like Ant-Man, Godzilla, Captain America- The First Avenger, etc. have also jammed his expert designs to create yet another masterpiece. Sound mixer, Scott Lewis has also contributed brilliantly to the entire technical play.

Debutant director-writer Dipesh Jain had weaved a maze-like plot, for which he wanted to have a perfect blend of dark and captivating background music which in turn should establish the depth of scenes. Within a few hours of its launch, the trailer has already received massive appreciation from across verticals.

 Robert came on record to broad out his views on how he felt while creating soundscapes for Gali Guleiyan. He wanted to make fresh tunes that appeared authentic and genuine for which he’d to undergo an extensive research. He quoted, “After first hearing of the story idea I went to India in 2011 to make recording around Old Delhi.  I then went back in 2018 and recorded again after seeing the footage.  Ambiances, Doors, Vehicles, Voices, Prayers were all freshly recorded and edited into the film to not only offer fresh recordings but also unique sounds and voices.  The city has a voice and it was my intention to capture and recreate it for the film.”

 So far, we’ve known that the film narrates a story of a paranoid man who’s on another journey to discover a layer of existence and the puzzle around him is sure to hammer our interest. Gali Guleiyan alternatively called as ‘In The Shadows’ have already created buzz across International Film Festivals and is all set to win hearts in India this September.

Coming from a debutant, he feels overwhelmed and elated with this entire episode of receiving positive responses from across verticals.

Chris Witt weaves a maze-like film Gali Guleiyan with his adept editing

After creating marvels with his work in Hollywood with films like The Unraveling & Catching Fireflies to name a few, Chris Witt has now added his magic-hint to Manoj Bajpayee’s forthcoming psychological thriller film, Gali Guleiyan. He has edited the film at length and the film trailer was surely a proof of his art.

The trailer interestingly narrates a story of a paranoid man who seemed trapped convoyed by constant flashes of incidents back and forth. The arrangement of shots in sync with a mind-bending story-line will surely leave you fascinated.

Chris is overwhelmed by the reactions and responses he’s been receiving ever-since the trailer launch.
