74th Independence Day Celebrations at NIT Tiruchirappalli

NIT Tiruchirappalli became part of major National mission programs Prof. Mini S. Thomas, Director, NIT Trichy hoisted the flag and welcome the gathering and offered her warm greetings on the 74th Independence Day Celebrations today.

She then addressed the gathering and saluted the brave jawans who toil endlessly at the borders to ensure our safe, comfortable and independent life. We must always salute and honour our frontline warriors- Doctors, nurses, paramedics, security staff, administrative office staff, Sanitation workers, and others who helped us survive the pandemic till now as we are honouring them today. We also realize how helpless we are even the most advanced technologies are not adequate to take on the current challenges.

As an Institute, NIT Trichy has done extremely well during the pandemic and listed few achievements over the last few months.

1.I am happy to state that we have moved one notch up, to 9th position in Engineering, in the NIRF India Rankings 2020. This is indeed a commendable feat and I congratulate the Faculty, staff  and students
for this accomplishment, we are on track as per our Strategic plan.We became part of 2 very significant National missions of GoI-2.NM-ICPS (National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber- Physical Systems) we got the announcement earlier this week, where we will work on Modelling and simulation systems with IIT Indore and AMU, Aligarh.

Our future contributions will be in the modelling and simulation in the areas of defence, agriculture, cyber security, AI, data management   smart manufacturing and  biomechanical engineering,  that benefit mankind involving most of our Departments.

3.We are part of National Supercomputing mission// (NSM) and a 650 TF supercomputer //is being installed at NIT Trichy soon

4.We are a Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) granting Institution//, being in the top 25 rank// in the Overall NIRF ranking 2020

5.National Research Development Corporation- Innovation Facilitation Centre (NRDC-IFC) will be set up soon in the Institute, the announcement came last week, in response to our proposal.

6.The Institute  has been made National Coordinator for MOOCs to develop UG & PG Engineering courses.

NIT Trichy is the only NIT to achieve 5 of the  above feats, which makes it more relevant and keeps us ahead of others.Inclusion of NIT Trichy to speak in the Conclave on National Education Policy organised by the UGC on 7th August 2020, which was inaugurated by the Honourable Prime Minister of India, put the lime light on the Institute, showing our strong presence on the National Education landscape.

NIT Tiruchirappalli has also been working tirelessly towards innovative, pragmatic and effective solutions to the day-today affairs of the Institute from the beginning during COVID-19. We have put in place, safety and hygiene protocols that enable functions of the offices. We have tried hard and implemented total office automation and
use of technology in the teaching-learning process. I must admit that these investments have become our lifeline in these challenging times. Our communication channels have become completely online, the administrative and academic offices are sustained by staff and faculty who have smoothly migrated to virtual platforms.

She also said institute had successfully conducted Board meetings, Senate  meetings and Student council elections online. Ph. D process is completely online. We had completed all examinations online. With
uncertainty about the return of normalcy, Senate of NIT Trichy had decided to go online in the coming semester- first of-sorts - classes are going live from 25th August for the next semester.

NITT's in- house contributions during COVID-19, to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ call by the Honourable Prime Minister are noteworthy, when the Siemens Center designed and rolled out Face Shields and our  Hackathon
teams have wowed every one with two first prizes in the recently concluded online Smart India Hackathon 2020//, jointly organized by AICTE and MoE.

Team Compile_Error comprising of Mario Jones Vimal, Vivek Raveendran, Arathi, Agila , Karaen, and Hariprasanth, worked on a problem statement from the Madhya Pradesh Police as a part of their "Crime
Free Bharat" mission.Team dCoders comprising of Abhilasha Nagpal, Ark Srivatsava, Ayush Singh, Vaibhav Bairagi, Nitin More, and Goutham worked on "Agriculture and Rural Development" for a problem statement
presented by the Govt. of Bihar (DOA).

NITT is getting younger 67 new faculty joining the family. It brings together two generations of thought-leaders; it brings together two different cultures; two different attitudes to challenges; and two different worlds. We will benefit from the synergy between these two worlds: of the young and the old working to optimize their strengths
and advantages.

The Director thanked the Faculty, Staff, Students and Alumni for their continued support and help in achieving the feat.

The Guard of Honour led by Mr G.Murugan, Security officer.
