53rd  Engineer’s Day Celebrations  held on 15 Sep. 2020

Tiruchirappalli Local Centre of The Institution of Engineers (India) located in BHEL Campus, has celebrated 53rd  Engineer’s Day on  15 Sep. 2020 through virtual mode.

Mylswamy Annadurai, popularly known as Moon Man of India, is an Indian scientist working as vice president for Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST) Chairman, Board of Governors, National Design and Research Forum (NDRF) was the chief guest for 53rd engineers’ day. He spoke about the significance of engineers’ day and role of engineers in creating self-reliant India. 

 Innovation is not invention but it’s about putting the available technology into better use to create value, business and social impact. He asked engineers to innovate self-reliant technology within existing domains by gathering knowledge in that domains. Now India has its own self-reliant technologies in all of its space related projects by its own sustainable Innovation driven development strategy. 





Similar way, now government has taking initiatives in developing indigenous innovative sustainable technologies in major sectors like Drones usage in agriculture farming, modern equipment in dyeing industries to treat wastages, Banana stem plantation with extraction of fibre from banana stem and in-house developed online VC platform for education & business communications. He requested engineers to innovate ideas to make India as self-reliant in modern technologies.

As part of Engineer’s day celebrations, The Institution of Engineers, Tiruchirappalli Local Centre honours one Best Engineer in this region every year. For the year 2020, Er. A. Balasubramanian Chief General Manager (Commercial and Electrical & Instrumentation) of M/s. Tamilnadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd, Karur, has been selected as the Best Engineer. The Best Engineer Award 2020 will be presented to Er. A. Balasubramanian in a separate function to be organized at a later date.

Earlier Dr. N Kumaresan, Chairman welcomed the gathering and presented the life sketch of Sir. M. Visveswaraya. He paid rich tributes to the great engineer Sir. M. Visveswaraya by highlighting his contributions – Construction of Krishnarajasagar dam, patented flood gates, water management, flood management etc.  Dr. N Sivakumaran, Convener, introduced the speaker to the gathering.  Mr. Anand, Honorary Secretary proposed the vote of thanks. Senior officials from National Institute of Technology, BHEL, Anna University and members of IEI in large numbers participated in the virtual meet.
