Sanjeev Kapoor’s Culinary Platform Tinychef has

Sanjeev Kapoor’s Culinary Platform Tinychef has announced 100 percent acquisition of

AI-powered Meal Planning App Zelish

The food AI-Tech players together account for 1.2 million user and have built a hands-free cooking experience aided by Amazon Alexa.

Bahubali Shete, Asha Shete and celebrity Masterchef Sanjeev Kapoor’s voice-first culinary AI platform Tinychef are all set to acquire Zelish (the team and its assets) for an undisclosed amount. A Techstars accelerator and Bosch and Siemens Home Appliances backed company, Zelish was founded 2 years ago by Rakesh Edavalath, Saakshi Jain, and Arpit Joseph.

The latest feather in Zelish's cap is the 2021 Bosch Siemens Home Startup Award in the Product Innovation category. Previously the recipient of the “Best Of 2020 Apps” by Google Play,  and the Editors Choice Award for “Best Upcoming App” in July 2020, Zelish has covered sizable ground in a short span of time. By acquiring Zelish, Tinychef will also gain access to the app’s 125,000 users and ~35% of whom are monthly active users!

Speaking on the acquisition Zelish, co-founder, Saakshi Jain said. “We’re really excited about this acquisition as it will help us take the Zelish experience into the world of voice-assisted cooking. With Tinychef in the picture, users can look forward to a completely hands-free experience. We are looking forward to the Zelish app spreading across the Indian sub-continent and growing its presence globally in the North American market as well.”

Rakesh Edavalath, co-founder of Zelish added, "We are thrilled to expand the vision of our tech-first platform Zelish to become a voice-guided assistant thanks to Tinychef. Most people who manage the kitchen complain that there is a constant back and forth between operating their phones and managing the said tasks. People will soon be able to relish the Zelish experience on voice assistants like Alexa instead of going back and forth on recipe videos”

To put things into perspective nearly 4 million recipes were requested and over 1.7 million meals have been cooked using the Tinychef skill on Alexa in India alone and over half a million recipes were made using Zelish last year!

Meanwhile, Tinychef already has over a million users and over 100,000 active monthly users in India and within a month of its launch, it has garnered over 25,000 users in North America with the bulk of the user base belonging to the US and Canadian markets.

The company has raised over $2 million in venture capital, which includes prominent angels like Rajan Anandan (MD, Sequoia), Kanwar Chadha (Chairman, Binatone group), Swamy Kotagiri (CEO, Magna International), Alexander Limbretch (Marketing Head, ABInBev), and institutional investors such as SOSV, VCATs, JPIN VCATs, LetsVenture, NB Ventures and IFFCO . The last Seed round of $1 million was led by accelerator Venture Catalysts. Tinychef is also part of the inaugural cohort of Google for Startups Accelerator: Voice and AI Accelerator Program.

The coming together of these two AI-powered companies will give them a distinct edge. Zelish gives Tinychef a powerful app with a highly engaged user base. Similarly, this alliance also gives Zelish a chance to integrate with Tinychef’s voice-assisted, Alexa enabled, hands-free cooking universe. Tinychef now aids everything from automatic meal planning to 1-click grocery shopping, voice-guided cooking and the use of connected Appliances.

Simply put, people will now be able to discover recipes and get inspired, plan their meals, shop for products and indulge in voice-guided cooking all from one platform. This is exciting as voice search queries in India are growing at 270% and over 82% of smartphone users are already using voice search on a regular basis.

Essentially Zelish is an app that lets users plan meals, shop for ingredients and cook based on recipes by celebrity chefs and influencers like Ranveer Brar & Hebbar’s Kitchen. The pandemic has encouraged a lot of people to start cooking at home for healthy, safe and hygienic food. Zelish makes it easy for people to cook delicious meals at home without wasting food or struggling with meal ideas.

Excited about this acquisition Tinychef Co-Founder,  Bahubali Shete said, “As a pioneer in voice-first solutions on smart speakers for consumers in the kitchen, adding smartphones was the natural next step for us so that we become truly a ‘device agnostic’ smart kitchen assistant. ‘I am super excited to bring Zelish into Tinychef’, would be an understatement given the potential of the combined solution, team and partnerships that we bring together. I am really bullish that we will make Tinychef as the default kitchen assistant for every kitchen around the world”

"I have always tried to impact kitchens in India and across the world with simple and healthier recipes and tips that households appreciate. I am looking forward to seeing kitchens across the world get even simpler with these two wonderful brands combining into something even more powerful." Added Celebrity Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, Co-Founder Tinychef

Tinychef has helped inspire users with over 3 million recipe discoveries and nearly 1.7 million meals cooked using Tinychef voice-guided assistance.

The app currently has a user retention rate of 40% and grocery shopping pilots have seen nearly 50,000 users/month add ingredients to shopping lists across the app/partner channels. Going forward this acquisition is projected to help Tinychef achieve MoM Growth of 70%.

ICICI Bank launches voice banking services on Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant

·         The facility enables customers to undertake a host of banking requirements with just a simple voice command
·         Customers can check savings account balance, credit card details and ask queries about the Bank’s products and services
·         The service is available instantly 24x7, without any branch visit

Chennai: ICICI Bank today announced that it has integrated its AI powered multi-channel chatbot, ‘iPal’, with the world’s two most popular voice assistant apps--Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant-- to enable its retail banking customers to undertake an array of banking services with just a simple voice command. This novel facility offers customers yet another way to connect with their Bank from home at a time when they are advised to stay indoors in the wake of the nationwide lockdown.

The launch of voice banking facility comes close on the heels of new digital initiatives undertaken by the Bank namely, chat based banking services on WhatsApp and ‘ICICIStack’, a set of digital banking and APIs (Application Programme Interface), to ensure uninterrupted banking experience to customers—both retail and business. ‘ICICIStack’ offers nearly 500 services that covers almost all banking requirements of customers such as digital account opening, loan solutions, payment solutions, investments and care solutions.

To get the benefit of the voice banking offering, customers need to download the Alexa / Google Assistant and link their ICICI Bank account through a secure two factor authentication process. They can then simply speak out their query to Alexa / Google Assistant enabled devices to check their savings account balance and credit card details including due date, due amount and last five transactions. For example, the customer can ask “Alexa, what is my account balance?”. Then, the Bank sends the information privately and securely via an SMS to the customer’s mobile number registered with the Bank.

Additionally, they can ask queries related to the Bank’s products and services, which ‘iPal’ will read out aloud through the Alexa / Google Assistant enabled devices.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Anup Bagchi, Executive Director, ICICI Bank said, “It has always been our endeavour to offer improved digital convenience to our customers. Recently, we had rolled out ‘ICICIStack’, the most comprehensive digital platform in the country by a bank, and Whatsapp banking to facilitate crores of customers to continue all their banking, digitally and from a remote location, without visiting a bank branch.

Now, we have introduced voice banking on two of the most popular voice assistants in the world. Our retail customers can execute a host of their banking requirements from their home securely and 24x7, without visiting a branch. With the growing comfort of customers in using digital assistants like Alexa / Google Assistant in every-day life, we believe that this would add immense convenience to our customers, as it allows them to get speedy and personalised banking experience whenever they need it.”

Quick steps to instantly start voice banking on Alexa / Google Assistant enabled devices or mobile apps on a smartphone:

·         Download Alexa / Google Assistant app and link ICICI Bank account: Customers need to simply link their savings account securely using two – factor authentication with the digital assistants.
§  Open the Alexa / Google Home app
§  In Alexa, go to Skills & Games > Your skills > ICICI Bank iPal > settings > Link Account. In Google Home go to Explore in Google Assistant app >Search for action ICICI Bank iPal > Link
§  Customer will be redirected to chatbot.icicibank.com
§  He/she will have to enter mobile number registered with the Bank for OTP verification
§  Set up a 6 digit MPIN (to be used for verification during transactions)
§  Complete the debit card grid authentication

·         Ask queries: Customers can now ask queries by simply saying, “Alexa, tell me my credit card due amount?” or “What is my account balance?”. Following this, an SMS will be sent to the registered mobile number of the customer with the response to their voice commands. Customers can also ask product and service-related queries.
