Neyveli’s Akash and His Mother’s Soul-Stirring Oppari Leave Andrea Jeremiah in Tears on Tamil Idol
Benny Dayal tells Akash, “For many, this is the last song they hear, but today, it has changed your life,” in an emotional moment from Tamil Idol’s launch weekend
As Tamil Idol gears up for its launch episodes this weekend on Sony VIZHA, Neyveli’s Akash is set to deliver one of the show’s most poignant moments with a performance inspired by his mother and his connection to Oppari, the traditional Tamil expression of grief and remembrance.
On stage, Akash shares that his inspiration to perform Oppari came from his mother, whom he grew up listening to sing the traditional art form. Moved by his story, the judges invite his mother onto the stage, giving audiences a glimpse into the roots of his musical journey.
As she begins to sing, the raw emotion and depth of her voice left Andrea Jeremiah visibly overwhelmed and in tears.
Reflecting on the significance of the moment, Benny Dayal tells Akash, “For many people, this is the last song they hear. But today, it has changed your life.”
Benny’s words capture what makes Akash’s journey so special an art form traditionally associated with grief becomes the very music that gives him an opportunity to step onto one of Tamil Nadu’s biggest singing platforms.
Helmed by music maestro A.R. Rahman as Super Judge, alongside judges Andrea Jeremiah, Karthik and Benny Dayal, Tamil Idol brings together remarkable voices and stories from across Tamil Nadu. Produced by Fremantle, the team behind the globally celebrated Idols format, the show brings the iconic franchise to Tamil audiences.
Catch the launch episodes of Tamil Idol this Saturday and Sunday at 8 PM on Sony VIZHA and stream any time on Sony LIV
