Filmmaker Karthik Thangavel on Adanga Maru
Filmmaker Karthik Thangavel on Adanga Maru
It stands out to be a fact that ‘Commercial Entertainer’ happens to be the most difficult among all genres. Of course, every ‘Emotion’ denotes a ‘Genre’ and bringing them all together is a huge challenge that very few filmmakers possess. Filmmaker Karthik Thangavel as believed by his entire family of “Adanga Maru” has achieved such craftsmanship. Hailing from the school of most celebrated filmmakers like Saran, Ameer and Cheran.
“It’s nice to hear such a verdict from a team of excellent talents. Especially, to hear it from Sujataa madam is a blessing. She has been the one who actually accompanied me from the initial stage. Now I am happy that somehow, I have lived up to her expectations,” says Karthik Thangavel, who shifts his words of honour for Jayam Ravi. “Well, I am so exhilarated that our team and close associates have been labeling ‘Adanga Maru’ as a perfect entertainer. In this case, all credit goes to Jayam Ravi sir. Initially, my script was raw and rustic, which he kept insisting me to tone down so that it becomes a treat for universal audience. What I really admired about him is that he could have easily ignored this script as there is a long queue awaiting his time. But he stood beside me suggesting and accepting my opinions too, which indeed has yielded us all a good output.”
Ask him about the pillars of Adanga Maru and he tells us, “Every actor and technician in the film! They have exerted an unbelievable effort for the movie. I am so much privileged to get this team of actors and technicians, who have given life to my ideas.”
Adanga Maru is scheduled for worldwide release by Clapboard Productions on December 21. Featuring Jayam Ravi and Raashi Khanna in lead roles, the film is produced by Sujataa Vijayakumar for Home Movie Makers. Sam CS has composed music for this film with Sathyan Sooryan as cinematographer and Ruben as editor.
Jayam Ravi’s physique and tailor-made Young Angry Man look is a boon to stunt choreographers
“Jayam Ravi’s physique and tailor-made Young Angry Man look is a boon to stunt choreographers”
– Stun Siva
Stunt choreographer Stun Siva seems to be so much excited as he instantly opens upon Jayam Ravi even before we could put forward the question about his experience in Adanga Maru. He says, “Jayam Ravi’s physique and tailor-made Young Angry Man look is a boon to stunt choreographers. The reason why I say this is that it wasn’t a comfortable means for me alone, but for every stuntman who has worked with him in his erstwhile movies. “Action Genre” has been an integral part of Jayam Ravi movies, which we can easily count from his initial stage of filmdom itself. More precisely, the lineup of movies over the past couple of years has been much more appropriate for mind-blowing action blocks. This added up a kind of challenge to deliver something different and unique in Adanga Maru. But Karthik Thangavel’s concept created space to experiment something differently. The entire premise of the film itself is based on protagonist’s brainy and brawny acts. So we had accordingly planned and executed them.”
A noteworthy fact is that both the sons of Stun Siva – Kevin Kumar and youngest one, Steven Kumar are Karate champions and have even got qualified for Olympics. Since the film’s climax action sequence demanded for martial arts, he had the idea of bringing Kevin to co-choreograph it.
Stun Siva feels Adanga Maru to be a special film as it marks the debut of his eldest son Kevin as stunt choreographer. “Yes, this is a project that will remain so special and close to my heart for years to come. My eldest son Kevin and I got the opportunity to choreograph the climax action sequence in the film.”
Adanga Maru is produced by Sujataa Vijayakumar of Home Movie Makers, which will have its worldwide theatrical exhibition from December 21.

Actress Poorna on Adanga Maru
Actress Poorna on Adanga Maru
Actress Poorna has been proving herself as a ‘Show-stopper’ with any role she essays. With such a long queue of movies back and forth, she has done an important role in Jayam Ravi-Raashi Khanna starrer ‘Adanga Maru’. Having performed as an advocate, she has something more memorable to share about the experience.
“After working in Savarakathi and few more films, I have been personally looking forward to substantial roles. Rather than appearing in ‘Dancing around the bush’ and ‘Falling in Love’, I was quite firm about being part of a film at least for couple of scenes, but strongly appeal to everyone’s attention. Precisely, I could feel such an instance when director Karthik Thangavel approached me for Adanga Maru. More than playing a lawyer character, the instant attention-seeking part was the contemporary crisis involving women,” says actress Poorna, who feels more satisfied and happy for getting a meaty role.
Actress Poorna renders her token of appreciations on Karthik Thangavel saying, “He is a perfect Gentleman and a disciplined professional. It was really nice to see what he narrated me had been exactly turned into visuals, which I witnessed during dubbing.”
Sharing few words on Jayam Ravi, Poorna opines, “He is a man of high enthusiasms and energy. His sense of humour will keep you indulged in non-stop laughter, but the very next second the camera is ‘ON’, he gets transformed into power house.”
Adanga Maru is directed by Karthik Thangavel and is produced by Sujataa Vijayakumar in association with Clapboard Productions. The film is an action packed thriller laced with entertainment quotients scheduled for worldwide release on December 21.
