ISRO & OPPO India Collaborates To Provide NavIC Application

ISRO & OPPO India Collaborates To Provide NavIC Application,
Paving Way For Atmanirbhar Bharat

Indian Space Research Organisation, Department of Space, Government of India signs an MoU with OPPO India to strengthen the research and development of the NavIC messaging service to provide a convenient and user-friendly platform. This MoU will pave the way for future collaborations between ISRO and OPPO India to develop indigenous solutions by incorporating the NavIC short messaging feature in the smartphones released by OPPO India.

This MoU will enable ISRO and OPPO India to exchange technical information of NavIC messaging services so as to build rapid, ready to use, end to end application-specific solutions by integrating NavIC messaging service with the mobile handset platform keeping in mind the need of Indian users. This MoU further reiterates OPPO India's commitment towards India and its vision towards Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Commenting on this collaboration, Mr Tasleem Arif, Vice President, India R&D Head, OPPO India, said, “We’re excited to collaborate with ISRO to strengthen the NavIC application. Under our latest MoU, we will support ISRO with our industry-leading R&D capabilities to provide a seamless experience to the users of NavIC application. In line with our vision towards Make In India, OPPO will invest in further scaling the product with its competitive and experienced R&D team. To benefit our users and the government, OPPO will continue to create a positive impact in the society through our innovation and technology expertise.”

Dr. K Sivan, Secretary, DOS / Chairman, ISRO appreciated the efforts of OPPO, India in scaling NavIC application through their innovative R&D initiatives. He also urged OPPO, India to include NavIC in all their upcoming products .

NavIC system provides regional navigation services covering the Indian mainland and an area up to 1500 km beyond the Indian mainland. In addition to its primary function of providing PNT services, NavIC is also capable of broadcasting short messages. This messaging service is mainly used for broadcasting safety-of-life alerts in areas with poor or no communication , particularly in the oceans.

ISRO made it Mission Possible- Jagan Shakti



Mission Mangal director Jagan Shakti on working in tandem with India's space agency to give shape to Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan-starrer


It's not easy for a debut director to mount a film based on Mars Orbiter Mission, arguably Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) most ambitious project to date. If Jagan Shakti was lucky to find powerful artistes-Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Nithya Menen, Kirti Kulhari and Sharman Joshi —who believed in his vision, he also credits members of India's premier space agency for helping him tell the story of Mission Mangal.

Jagan Shakti says "My sister Sujata [Krishna] works there, so I did extensive interviews with the team of the Mangalyaan mission. ISRO was helpful in terms of giving us access to the material and scientists. The right balance between the art director and the VFX team helped us design the rocket, which was the most important component of the film. While we had the exact diagrams in possession, we couldn't have designed a similar-looking device.”

We asked him if he faced any hiccups, and he says, "We were keen to shoot in ISRO's premises [in Bengaluru] but they couldn't permit that for security reasons. But most of the key points about the mission are available on their website. In the end, we are making a thematic film with that mission as the backdrop. It's a story about how ordinary men and women, who take the same bus as we do and buy vegetables with us, are capable of being so extraordinary." Quiz him why he didn't design it as a biopic, and he reasons, "The mission was a collective victory, and to attribute its success to one person would not be fair to the rest."

Mission Mangal is about India’s first mission to Mars, also known as Mars Orbiter Mission. It was praised on a global level as one of the most cost effective inter planetary missions, and it achieved success in its very first attempt.

ISRO NITT Signing MOU




Space agency-ISRO on Wednesday (29th May 2019) inaugurated its Space  Technology Incubation Centre (S-TIC) and a Memorandum of Understanding  was signed in NIT, Tiruchirappalli, the central part of Tamilnadu. It  
was unveiled remotely by Dr.K. Sivan, Chairman, Indian Space Research  Organization (ISRO), Secretary, Department of Space, Government of  India from the ISRO Headquarters, Bengaluru in Karnataka. This is  
first of its kind incubation centre in Southern Region of India, aims  at developing innovative indigenous technologies that could be used  for future ISRO projects which would significantly be cutting down the  
cost.

Dr. M. Umapathy, Dean (Research & Consultancy) welcomed the gathering,  followed by the keynote address by Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas, Director,  NITT who addressed the dignitaries, faculty members, industry partners  
and student/ research scholars about the golden opportunity available  for the student community across the southern region to innovate an  idea and develop a commercially viable product thereby contribute to  
the India Space programme with the support of ISRO scientists.The ISRO - Space Technology Incubation Centre opened at the National  Institute of Technology (NIT) at Tiruchirappalli will incubate  
startups to build applications and products in tandem with the  industry and they would be used in future space missions,” said ISRO  Chairman K. Sivan during his inaugural speech.

Space Technology Incubation Centre (S-TIC) is a novel concept  conceived by ISRO to tie up the Academia, Industry and R&D  institutions in different regions of the country. S-TIC will provide  
projects of importance to the ongoing and futuristic programmes of  ISRO for the Research, Post Graduate and Under Graduate students. This  is expected to inculcate the much-required research culture among the  
student community. The final year students will be exposed to the  problems of relevance and importance to ISRO and proof of concept or  prototype developed by them will be validated through nearby tie-up  
industries. The products once realised will be validated and qualified  in the existing facilities of ISRO. Once qualified, they can be  inducted in the on-going projects of ISRO and buy back arrangement can  
be made. Through this, it is hoped to motivate the students to think  differently in order to initiate start-up enterprises which can  generate employment. The first Southern region, S-TIC is being  
originated to encourage space-related research activities in that  region.The centre is expected to bring the industry, academia and ISRO triad  under one umbrella to contribute towards the research and development  
(R&D) initiatives relevant to Indian Space Programme, which was  briefly explained by Dr.P.V.Venkatakrishnan, Director, Capacity  Building Programme Office (CBPO), ISRO- HQ.
Finally, Dr Jiwan Kumar Pandit, Associate Director, Capacity Building  Programme office (CBPO), ISRO- HQ, thanked the NITT fraternity,  industry partners from CII, BHEL, TIDISSIA, Student/ Research scholars  
and members from press and media for making this event a grand success.

Vikram Solar Commissions 1461 kW Rooftop

 Vikram Solar Commissions 1461 kW Rooftop Solar projects for Century Plyboards (India) Limited

Chennai, 18th September, 2018: Vikram Solar, one of India’s leading module manufacturer and a prominent rooftop solar & EPC solutions provider, announced the installation of a 1461 kW Rooftop Solar PV system for Century Plyboards (India) Limited at two locations. 
The 1056kW at Century Plyboards’ Chennai unit is spread over 11000 square metres across seven factory sheds and 3 evacuation points. There are 3300 modules in operations with a cumulative annual energy yield of 1.536 million units, which would help reduce 1310 metric tonnes of Carbon Dioxide emissions per year.

Vikram Solar also commissioned a 405kW Rooftop Solar PV system for Century Plyboards’ Chirai Moti unit near the Kandla Port in Gujarat. Spread over 450 square metres, the project is powering the complete factory with the power evacuated at 2 points. The plant is expected to produce an annual yield of nearly 6 Lakh units which would reduce around 500 metric tonnes of Carbon Dioxide emissions per year.
