‘Perfect 20 Miler’ A new race category, first time ever in a major marathon event
The Skechers Performance Chennai Marathon 2019 (SPCM 2019) - Powered by Chennai Runners, along with title sponsors Skechers, an American performance and lifestyle footwear brand, will be held on Sunday, 6th of January 2019. Indian Wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik, unveiled the official jersey for the marathon in the presence of Mr. Rahul Vira, CEO, Skechers South Asia Pvt Ltd, Mr. Sevakumar. S, Senior Vice President & Regional Business Manager – Tamil Nadu, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd, and guests in the city today.
The Marathon, now in its 7th year will see over 25,000 participants and offer total prize money of Rs. 25,00,000/- (Twenty Five Lakhs Only). The SPCM 2019 powered by Chennai Runners, is now the second largest running event in the country.
As in the past, this year also the Chennai Marathon will be supporting a cause, the theme for SPCM 2019 is ‘Access to Sports for Para Athletes’. The aim is to develop training facilities for Para athletes, identify potential para Athletes and support them with training to achieve laurels for the country on the international stage.
The Skechers Performance Chennai Marathon 2019, the brainchild of the Chennai Runners, a passionate group that has been promoting running in Chennai for over 10 years, will comprise of four events for men and women including i) Full Marathon (42.195 Km) - the flagship race of the event, ii) Perfect 20 Miler (32.186 Km) - a new race category being held for the first time ever in a major marathon event, iii) Half Marathon (21.097 Km) and iv) 10 Km Run – which is expected to see participation from thousands of enthusiastic, excited, first time and experienced runners across age categories.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. V P Senthil Kumar, Race Director, Skechers Performance Chennai Marathon 2019 powered by Chennai Runners, said, “We are overwhelmed by the support we have received from Chennai. I am extremely grateful to the government, local administrators, Chennai Metro, Police, runners and sponsors for their support. In our effort to continuously improve and set a bench mark for marathons in the country, this year for the first time ever across any event, the runners will be insured for Rs.1 lakh against injuries or sickness during the event. In addition, Chennai Metro will run special services for participating runners, parking will be free across all metro stations and Metro Travel/trip cards will be sold at the expo, to avoid runners spending time buying tickets on the event day.”

About Chennai Runners
The Chennai Runners group is a not-for-profit society founded in 2006, with the goal of bringing healthy running to the masses. The club has grown steadily over the years – currently with 18 chapters spread across the length and breadth of the city. Chennai Runners organize training runs and other fitness routines on a regular schedule, and also spearhead various initiatives particularly aimed at beginners.
