IndiGo receives IATA membership certificate


  • Certificate received by President and COO, Wolfgang Prock-Schauer in Gurgaon today
 In-line with the recent announcement of IndiGo joining IATA, the airline received its membership certificate today in Gurgaon. Conrad Clifford, Regional Vice President for Asia Pacific, IATA presented the certificate to Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, President and COO, IndiGo at their office premises in Gurgaon. The membership will help IndiGo align to global practices developed by IATA and further strengthen the airline’s partnership portfolio.

IndiGo recently announced a one-way codeshare with Qatar Airways and partnered with Turkish Airlines in December 2018 to expand its international presence. As part of its expansion strategy, IndiGo entered into new markets including Turkey, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, China, Myanmar and Vietnam in 2019, commencing operations to multiple cities in each market.


At the occasion, Mr. Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, President and COO, IndiGo said, “This is a strategic milestone, as the airline steers its focus towards international expansion. Being a member of IATA will help IndiGo grow its network faster by building relationships with other airlines, after the recently announced codeshare with Qatar Airways and almost a year-long successful partnership with Turkish Airlines. IATA membership becomes more critical at this time, as it will be important for us to achieve our mission of making IndiGo the best air transportation system in the world”.

IndiGo and Qatar Airways announce Codeshare Agreement to strengthen connectivity between India and Qatar




The airlines have signed a one-way codeshare agreement where-in Qatar Airways will place its code 

on IndiGo flights between Doha and Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad

 In-line with its international expansion plans, IndiGo, India’s leading airline, today signed a one-way 

codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways, world’s best airline as per 2019 World Airline Awards. 

With the sale starting from today, the one-way codeshare agreement between the two carriers will 

enable Qatar Airways to place its code on IndiGo flights between Doha and Delhi, Mumbai and 

Hyderabad. This is the second codeshare agreement for IndiGo as part of its growth strategy for 

international markets. Qatar Airways will place its code “QR” on IndiGo operated flights between the 

mentioned destinations.


Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker said, “We are extremely 

proud to secure this strategic partnership with IndiGo, the largest airline in one of the world’s fastest 

growing aviation markets. We believe this agreement will be just the first step in strengthening our

IndiGo Abroad with the airline’s new brand campaign

-          Launches brand campaign with its quirky creatives, for first-time travellers
-          Offers promotional fares across its international destinations starting Nov 03  

 India’s leading airline, IndiGo, launched its new integrated brand campaign ‘IndiGo Abroad: Happy to be your first’ today, to stimulate travellers to explore newer destinations for short and medium -haul international travel at affordable fares. The campaign aims to introduce Indian travellers to new and unexplored 6E destinations to encourage first time international travellers and experiential travellers to look beyond the regular international destinations, for their next trip abroad with IndiGo. The airline launched flights to Turkey, China, Vietnam, Myanmar and Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

As part of this campaign, IndiGo has used quirky creatives that tug our emotions when we travel, with the backdrop of the most scenic locations in its international network. The passengers in the creatives showcase the innumerable experiences and emotions during their first international trip and how IndiGo has been their partner, by making international travel accessible and affordable. Some of the creatives like ‘My first time was very educational’, ‘My first time? Three weeks long’, ‘Our first time? This summer’, connect to real life people, bringing relatability to the campaign. The campaign will run across OOH, print and IndiGo’s social media platforms from November 03- November 17, 2019.

On the launch of the campaign, Mr. William Boulter, Chief Commercial Officer, IndiGo said, “We are excited to launch our new brand campaign ‘IndiGo Abroad’ after the last one celebrating our 13th anniversary. This campaign is aimed at targeting domestic travellers looking at their first international trip and experiential travellers who want to explore new international destinations. IndiGo is introducing special promotional offer on its international destinations with return fares starting from INR 8,490. Customers booking their tickets through IndiGo website and mobile application can avail additional cashback and EMI options when paying through Yes Bank and Bank of Baroda, while offers with IndusInd Bank can be availed only on website from November 03- November 04, 2019. Discounts on seats are subjected to availability and the offer is valid for bookings made during the offer period, at least 15 days prior to the date of departure.

The announcement followed soon after the airline’s recent expansion into Vietnam, Myanmar, China and Saudi Arabia. IndiGo is currently an IOSA registered airline and IATA Clearing House member. IATA is the global trade association for the airline industry, representing over 290 airlines. This membership will help IndiGo align to global practices developed by IATA and will further strengthen the airline’s partnership portfolio.

IndiGo signs for 300 A320neo Family aircraft

 IndiGo has placed a firm order for 300 A320neo Family aircraft. This marks one of Airbus’ largest aircraft orders ever with a single airline operator.

This latest IndiGo order comprises a mix of A320neo, A321neo and A321XLR aircraft. This will take IndiGo’s total number of A320neo Family aircraft orders to 730.

“This order is an important milestone, as it reiterates our mission of strengthening air connectivity in India, which will in turn boost economic growth and mobility. India is expected to continue with its strong aviation growth and we are well on our way to build the world’s best air transportation system, to serve more customers and to deliver on our promise of providing low fares and a courteous, hassle free experience to them," said Ronojoy Dutta, Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo.

“We are delighted that IndiGo, one of our early launch customers for the A320neo, continues to build its future with Airbus, making IndiGo the world’s biggest customer for the A320neo Family,” said Guillaume Faury, Airbus Chief Executive Officer. “We are grateful for this strong vote of confidence as this order confirms the A320neo Family as the aircraft of choice in the most dynamic aviation growth markets.” He added: “We are pleased to see our aircraft allowing IndiGo to take full advantage of the predicted growth in Indian air travel.”

"We were believers in IndiGo from day one and are thrilled to be able to perpetuate this most fruitful partnership,” said Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer. “IndiGo has brilliantly demonstrated the relevance of the A320neo for leading low cost operators, and the A321neo - and now the A321XLR - provide our operators with the logical next step in cost efficiency, passenger comfort and market coverage.”

“We are pleased to partner yet again with Airbus for our next batch of Airbus A320neo Family aircraft. The fuel-efficient A320neo family aircraft will allow IndiGo to maintain its strong focus on lowering operating costs and delivering fuel efficiency with high standards of reliability. The choice of engine manufacturer for this order will be made at a later date,” said Riyaz Peermohamed, Chief Aircraft Acquisition and Financing Officer of IndiGo.

IndiGo is among the fastest growing carriers in the world. Since its first A320neo aircraft was delivered in March 2016, its fleet of A320neo Family aircraft has grown into the world’s largest with 97 A320neo aircraft, operating along side 128 A320ceos. 

The A321XLR is the next evolutionary step from the A321LR which responds to market needs for even more range and payload, creating more value for the airlines. The aircraft will deliver an unprecedented Xtra Long Range of up to 4,700nm – with 30 percent lower fuel burn per seat compared with previous generation competitor jets. 

At the end of September 2019, the A320neo Family had received more than 6,650 firm orders from nearly 110 customers worldwide

IndiGo connects Indian City of Joy to Cantonese food capital of China


-          The inaugural flight connecting Kolkata and Guangzhou landed in Guangzhou on October 20, 2019

India's leading carrier, IndiGo, commenced operations to Guangzhou on October 20, its second destination in China after the recent launch of Chengdu. Guangzhou is the airline’s 23rd international destination and 83rd overall destination. IndiGo announced its entry in China in June and have already launched flights to two of the busiest and fastest growing cities in China, Chengdu and Guangzhou.

Mr. William Boulter, Chief Commercial Officer, IndiGo said“We are pleased to inaugurate our first flight to Guangzhou. Furthermore, the flights between Guangzhou and Kolkata will help attract more tourists on the Buddhist circuit in India, with IndiGo connecting Gaya, Varanasi and Patna with Kolkata directly. IndiGo inaugurates flights to Ho Chi Minh City

IndiGo inaugurates flights to Ho Chi Minh City, its 2nd destination in Vietnam

  • The inaugural flight connecting Kolkata and Ho-Chi-Minh City landed today at 1550 hrs (local time)
 In its bid to expand international operations, IndiGo, India's leading airline, commenced operations to Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC or Saigon) from Kolkata. The airline inaugurated the first direct flight on Kolkata-Ho Chi Minh City route, making Ho Chi Minh City IndiGo’s 22nd international and 7th Southeast Asian destination, after the launch of Hanoi earlier this month.

Mr. William Boulter, Chief Commercial Officer, IndiGo said, “We are excited to inaugurate our flights to Ho Chi Minh City, which holds immense potential for both business and leisure travellers. IndiGo announces Independent Woman Director

IndiGo announces the appointment of Ms. Pallavi Shardul Shroff as Independent Woman Director

The Board of Directors of InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) unanimously approved the appointment of Ms. Pallavi Shardul Shroff as Independent Woman Director with effect from September 19, 2019.

Ms. Shroff is the Managing Partner of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. with over 37 years of extensive experience. Her broad and varied representation of public and private corporations and other entities before various national courts, tribunals and legal institutions has earned her national and international acclaim. Ms. Shroff is the Head of the Dispute Resolution practice at the Firm, with an extensive knowledge in matters of litigation and arbitration. Ms. Shroff is a member of the Competition Law Review Committee, constituted by the Government of India to ensure that the legislation is in tune with the changing business environment. Ms. Shroff has been closely involved with some of the largest and most challenging litigation and arbitration matters in India with regard to energy, infrastructure, natural resources, mergers & acquisitions, legislative and policy related matters. She appears regularly in the Supreme Court and High Courts of India, and in arbitrations, mediations and international legal disputes. She has recently been appointed on the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) Court of Arbitration. She regularly represents several companies such as Nestle, General Electric, Havells, Vale Australia, Vodafone, BHEL and ONGC. Ms. Shroff has always been active in public-policy related work. She was a member of the committee set up by the Government of India to advise the Government regarding compliance with Article 39.3 of the TRIPS (Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights).

Ms. Shroff is also a Director on the Boards of prestigious Indian listed companies viz. Apollo Tyres Ltd., Trident Ltd. and Asian Paints Ltd. She is also on the Boards of One97 Communications Ltd (Paytm), Juniper Hotels Ltd. and various other companies. Ms. Shroff was recently conferred the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the Chambers India Awards 2019. She has been recognised as one of the Most Powerful Women in Indian Business by Business Today, seven years in succession (2013-19).
