Carnatic Awards 2023 on 15th June, 2023 honoured 4 eminent women with life-time achievement awards at a formal event held in a city hotel, to recognize phenomenal work done by them in their field of profession & service to the society.

Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic is part of the Rotary International District 3232 which comprises of all the Rotary Clubs in the Greater Chennai Metropolitan area.

The Award:

Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic is honoured in awarding a unique set of individuals the lifetime achievement awards. This year all the awardees were eminent Ladies of Chennai.  These ladies have attained the highest glory in their respective professions and have impacted lives of thousands of people over the years. The Chennai Carnatic Awards were instituted in the year 2015 and have been recognizing people in the field of business, entertainment, social work, defence, public service and sports.

Brigadier Muthulaxmy (Retd. from Indian Army)

Born and brought up in a remote village in Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, she volunteered to join in the Indian Army at a very young age and posted as Nursing officer in Military hospital at Allahabad. During the Indo-Pak war in 1965, she was posted as Front-line officer in Amritsar and besides alleviating injured soldiers’ pain, she also had to keep the hopes alive and console the bereaved families. She was applauded for her grit as young girl from a remote village in Tamil Nadu working far North of India. She was also posted in Bangladesh during the war. Besides attending casualties of Jawans, she also extended her service to civilian girls especial in the gynaecological attention. In 1986 during Sri Lanka war, Brig. Muthulaxmy were brought to the Military hospital in Chennai. Her service continued and she was recognised with the Chief of Army Commendation during this period. She also served in the Delhi Army Hospital and post-retirement, continued her studies and secured graduation in Commerce & later secured graduation in Law. Continued her service to supporting widows of Army Jawans, she enrolled herself in the Bar Council of Chennai & Pondicherry, she continued to serve as Advocate & Notary public. Her service to the Nation and people for 3 decades, she was awarded Chennai Carnatic Award by Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic.

Sabita Radhakrishna

Sabita is a columnist, journalist, play-writer, textile revivalist, cook book writer and broadcaster. She also did the translation of legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan's autobiography. She has lent her voice for over two decades to mainstream media and has hands-on experience in textiles for four decades. She is a lyricist and authored a fact-fiction novel titled “Looms of Arivoor". She believes that British rule and mechanisation led to the fall of Indian handloom craftsmanship. She ventured into founding 'Amrapali' and enticed women into wearing handlooms. She also ensured support with funds to mitigate sufferings of handloom weavers during the pandemic. She was bestowed with Chennai Carnatic Award by Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic for her phenomenal efforts in the field of art & craft, as an individual and social entrepreneur promoting traditional craftsmanship and livelihood of craftsmen.

Commander Gauri Mishra

Well educated Gauri with a postgraduation in Commerce, diploma in logistics & supply chain management, Masters in business administration (MBA) in finance and contract management module from ICWAI; she went on to pursue her career in the Defence. Commander Gauri Mishra joined the Indian Navy, lead the contingent in the Republic Day Parade in Delhi and received commendation by the Chief of the Naval Staff. She was also a member of the Indian Navy's Sky-diving team. She was a role model & inspiration for many women joining the armed forces and her continuous effort motivating young girls speaking to them, promoting gender equality and has been empowering the underprivileged. The veteran soldier had excelled in her education, career and balanced work as proud wife of a soldier and mother of a boy. For her relentless and undaunting efforts, being an inspiration to thousands of Indian girls and to the glorious achievements made by her, Rotary Club of Chennai Carnatic proudly presented Carnatic Awards to Commander Gauri Mishra.

Jigyasa Giri

Jigyasa Giri evolved from an astute Kathak dancer to a choreographer to passionately swaying through the life of teaching. She has performed dancing and staged her students across theatres around the world, she follows her motto "Be the spark of change". She chooses to give the world a positive spin through dance. Chennai Carnatic Awards was to reaffirm her life-time achievement in the field of teaching & promoting positivity through dance form. She also involved in various social service initiatives and raised funds through dance performances.

The Awards nights chairman is Rtn.Rajram.M.U and all the awardees were felicitated by the President Rtn.Vanitha Srihari and thanked by Secretary Rtn.Deepa Jammi.  Each awardee was given a plague and citation.  The citations were read by the senior members of the Club.

Rotary Club of Madras East Signs MOU with Apollo Children's Hospital
to reach out to poor children requiring life saving heart surgery.

 Initial target of helping 500 poor children over a period of 1 year

 

The Department of Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery of Apollo Children's Hospital, Chennai today announced the partnership with Rotary Club of Madras East to reach out to poor children requiring life saving heart surgery. Of every 1000 babies born, 8 are born with congenital heart disease. In India, on an average, 2.5 lakh children are born annually with heart disease. About half will perish before the first birthday if they do not have access to timely surgery and intervention.

 

The pediatric cardiac program caters to children with heart disease of all socioeconomic classes. The program is run with the help of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Comprehensive  Health Scheme, donations from the Save a Child's Heart Initiative (SACHI Trust) run by Apollo Hospital, crowdfunding platforms and the kindness, dedication and magnanimity of Rotarians like those belonging to Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME) and the generosity and unlimited support from the Apollo top-management.  The joint program between Apollo Children's Hospital and RCME will be officially launched on July 5, 2021 with an initial target of helping at least 500 poor children over a period of 1 year.

 

The Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery is headed by Dr Neville Solomon and run along with his consultants, Dr P Balaraman and Dr V Swaminathan. They have performed over 5000  pediatric cardiac operations over a decade with an amazing success rate.  A team-based multidisciplinary approach has contributed to the success of the program. All members of the team involved in the care of the patients are exceptionally trained in the field of Pediatric Cardiac including our anaesthetists, Drs Rajagopal and Hemalatha, Intensivists, Dr Suchitra and team, and a brilliant team of perfusionists, nurses and paramedical staff. A dedicated Catheterization Laboratory and Operating Room and Intensive Care Unit  in an exclusive children's hospital contributes to incredible outcomes even with the most complex cases. Newborn babies just a few hours old and weighing only 1.2 kgs have been successfully operated on and sent home,  even those born with the most complex of conditions. We offer the entire gamut of Pediatric Cardiac Services from complex neonatal cardiac surgeries, valve repairs, heart failure, ECMO and transplants all under one roof. 

 

The Department of Pediatric Interventional Cardiology is headed by Dr CS Muthukumaran and run along with Dr Anuradha, whose special interest is also Heart failure/transplantation. The interventional department has done more than 10000 complex interventions in children. Babies as low as 1.2 kg have had interventional procedures successfully. The interventional department is equipped with state of heart cath lab only for children. The department is a pioneer in percutaneous valve implantations. ( valves implanted without surgery)

Rtn. Srinivasa Rao, President RCME,  says “Healing Tiny Hearts project aligns very well with RCME’s plans for the year. We are extremely happy to partner with Apollo Hospitals and their Pediatric Cardiac Surgery team to provide the best in class care for 500 economically underprivileged children in dire medical need.” The Healing Tiny Hearts Project is an initiative by RCME to support 500 pediatric cardiac surgeries or interventions to correct congenital heart defects. The procedures will be done by the Apollo Team who have an impressive track record in this field.

Tamil Nadu’s youngest GEC channel COLORS Tamil celebrated this International Yoga Day with an extensive virtual yoga session in association with Rotary Club of Madras Central on Sunday. Titled Yoga for World Health, the event stressed on the importance of practicing yoga in our everyday lives for mental and emotional wellbeing. 

Led by a panel of experts, the event witnessed an overwhelming participation of 200 people, each practicing the asanas along with their favorite COLORS Tamil stars, all from the comfort and safety of their own homes.

Spread over an hour, the e-yoga meet was led by well-known ayurvedic medicine and sports therapy consultant, Dr. Dharmesh Kubendiran, physiotherapist and yoga instructor, Dr. Simranjeet Kaur, musculoskeletal physiotherapist, Dr. Krishna Shah and Mr. Sagar Pujari, a celebrity sports therapy specialist and Mr Sanjay Dhurka, Rotary Club of Madras Central president. The event was curated with emphasis on the pivotal role of yoga, especially in these stressful times, to bring about an effective change physically, mentally and spiritually. Over the ages, yoga has been credited with promoting holistic well-being. In more recent years, with increased physical and mental health awareness, it has become an integral part of life among fitness enthusiasts. The experts shared their insights on each asana, explaining how they help the body and mind.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Anup Chandrasekharan, Business Head - COLORS Tamil, said, “We are thrilled to join hands with the Rotary Club of Madras Central to host an enriching virtual session on International Yoga Day. Adding yoga to our daily routine can enhance the quality of our lives and help us grow both physically and mentally. The breathing techniques practiced during yoga help in calming life’s trinity - mind, body and soul. During these difficult times, we at COLORS Tamil wanted to bring everybody together on one platform, to connect with our audience as well as to urge everyone to adopt healthier practices.”

The face of Thirumanam, Shreya Anchan said, “The event was a hugely positive experience for us as well as our fans. Yoga is known to help develop physical and mental balance, which is essential to lead wholesome lives and even more so in such difficult times. It was refreshing to hear, watch and learn from all these experts and we hope that all of us continue to practice yoga for a healthy lifestyle."

Sharing similar views, Thirumanam co-star Sidhu added, "Yoga has gained immense popularity worldwide for its varied benefits. Today’s session was fulfilling and energizing, especially because we got to connect with all our fans on one platform. In these trying times, an opportunity to connect with our fans and practice yoga alongside them has been nothing short of pure joy.”

Along with Sidhu and Shreya, Tina and Ryesha from Thirumanam, Nilani, Navin Kumar and Hima Bindhu from Idhayathai Thirudathe, Arun Padmanabhan, Lakshmi Priya and Keerthi from Mangalaya Dosham, Surendhar from Oviya, Amaljith, Pavithra, Deepika, Naren Balaji, Sai Lakshmi and Jenniferr from Amman and Amruth Kalam from Uyire were also part of this virtual yoga session, making it a star-studded and meaningful Yoga Day.

மார்ச் 24ம் நாள் உலக  காசநோய் தினத்தை முன்னிட்டு ரோட்டரி  இன்டர்நேஷனல் சார்பில்  சென்னை ஆர்.கே நகரில்  (மார்ச்21ம் நாள்)  இன்று விழிப்புணர்வு நிகழ்ச்சி நடைபெற்றது

 இதில் நடிகர் ஆரி சிறப்பு விருந்தினர்களாக கலந்து கொண்டார்.

 தற்போது டிபி எனப்படும் காசநோய் பற்றிய விழிப்புணர்வை மக்களிடையே 2004 ஆண்டு முதல்  உருவாக்கி சுமார் 60ஆயிரம் பேருக்கு மேற்பட்டவர்களை கண்டெடுத்து சிகிச்சை அளித்து வருகிறது .

இன்று சென்னை ஆர் கே நகர் பகுதியில் முகாம் நடத்தி சுமார் 300க்கும் மேற்பட்டவர்களுக்கு ஆலோசனை மற்றும் சிகிச்சை அளிக்கப்பட்டது 

காசநோய் என்பது ஒன்று தீண்டாமை நோய் அல்ல தொற்று நோய்தான் இதை முழுவதுமாக குணமாக்க முடியும் 

எனவே அதன் அறிகுறிகளான தொடர் காய்ச்சல், மூன்று வாரத்திற்கு அதிகமான இரும்பல்,சளியுடன் கலந்து இரத்தம் வந்தால் உடனே மருத்துவரை அணுகி ஆலோசனையும் சிகிச்சையும் பெறுங்கள் என்று அறிவுரை வழங்கினார்கள்...

இந்த ரோட்டரி கிளப் உடன் இணைந்து குயில் குப்பம் என்ற கிராமத்தில் உள்ள மக்களுக்கு 650 சதுர அடியில் பெரிய வீடு கட்டி தருகிறோம். அவர்களின் வாழ்வாதாரம் பாதிக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதால் ஒவ்வொரு வீட்டுக்கும் தேவையான பொருட்கள், ஃபர்னிச்சர்கள், ஒரு மாடு ஆகியவற்றையும் தருகிறோம். அந்த பகுதியில் ஒரு கம்யூனிட்டி செண்டரையும் கட்டி தருகிறோம். அரசிடம் பேசி நிலத்துக்கு பட்டா வாங்கி தருகிறோம். மொத்தம் 10 கோடி ரூபாயில் இந்த திட்டத்தை அமல்படுத்த திட்டமிட்டிருக்கிறோம். நான் என் சொந்த பணத்தில் இருந்து இரண்டரை கோடி ரூபாயை இந்த படத்துக்கு தருகிறேன். இதே மாதிரி அந்தந்த ஊர்களில் இருக்கும் ரோட்டரி கிளப்புகள் இணைந்து செயல்பட முன்வந்தால் தமிழ்னாடு எங்கேயோ போய் விடும் என்றார் அபிராமி ராமநாதன்.

சினிமாவில் பார்த்த ஒரு விஷயம் இங்கு நிஜத்தில் நடப்பது நல்ல விஷயம். பெண்கள் பாதுகாப்பு தற்போதைய மிக முக்கியமான விஷயம். மகளிருக்காக பிரத்யேகமாக தொடங்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் இந்த பிங்க் ஆட்டோக்களில் ஜிபிஎஸ் வைத்து ஆட்டோவை கண்காணிக்கிறார்கள். இது பெண்கள்  பாதுகாப்பை மிகவும் உறுதி செய்யும். இந்த பிங்க் ஆட்டோ மிகப்பெரிய வெற்றியை பெற்று, நயன்தாராவை நான் ஆட்டோக்காரி, ஆட்டோக்காரினு பாட வைத்து, படம் எடுக்கும் நாள் வெகு தொலைவில் இல்லை என்றார் இயக்குனர் வெங்கட் பிரபு.

கமிஷனரை இந்த விழாவுக்கு அழைக்க தான் முதலில் வந்தார்கள், ஒரு அதிர்ஷ்டவசமான சூழலில் இந்த விழாவில் கலந்து கொள்ளும் வாய்ப்பு எனக்கு கிடைத்தது. காவல்துறையை சேர்ந்த குடும்பங்களுக்கு நாங்களே நிறைய நலத்திட்டங்கள் செய்ய வேண்டும் என்ற முயற்சியில் இருந்தோம். இந்த வேளையில் ரோட்டரி கிளப் இந்த முன்னெடுப்பை எடுத்திருப்பது மகிழ்ச்சி அளிக்கிறது. 2015ல் She Auto என்ற பெயரில் ஆந்திராவில் இந்த மாதிரி ஒரு திட்டம் ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டது. சென்னையில் இந்த பிங்க் ஆட்டோ திட்டம் கொண்டு வரப்பட்டது மிகவும் நல்ல விஷயம்.  சென்னையில் பெண்கள் பாதுகாப்புக்கு அரசும் மிகவும் முக்கியத்துவம் அளித்து வருகிறது. சென்னையில் கிட்டத்தட்ட எல்லா பகுதிகளிலும் சிசிடிவி கேமராக்கள் பொருத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன. இந்த சூழலில் துவங்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் இந்த பிங்க் ஆட்டோ திட்டமும் வரவேற்கத்தக்கது என்றார் இணை ஆணையர் சி.மகேஸ்வரி.
