CSC and Vodafone Idea Foundation Join Hands for

COVID-19 Vaccination of Vulnerable Sections

·         Target to register a million on CoWin Portal for driving vaccination for the elderly, people with disabilities, slum dwellers and daily wage workers

The Common Services Centers, under the Ministry of Electronics & IT, has partnered with Vodafone Idea Foundation, the CSR arm of Vi, for registration of citizens to receive vaccination against the deadly COVID-19 virus. The initiative will focus on vulnerable and disadvantaged communities.

The CSC Academy, the CSR & Education wing of CSC, will facilitate registration and scheduling of one million beneficiaries for vaccination across the country through the Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs). The VLEs will act as a focal point for identifying and reaching out to ageing population, slum dwellers, daily wage workers, etc.

Elaborating on the partnership, Dr. Dinesh Tyagi, Managing Director, CSC SPV, said: “CSC has always stepped in to support social initiatives undertaken for the benefit of citizens. Registration of citizens on CoWin App is one such activity that CSC has undertaken as part of our commitment to provide inclusive healthcare to all. Our partnership with Vodafone Idea Foundation will help us reach out to the most marginalized and disadvantaged communities across the country and get them registered for vaccination under CoWin App and strengthen the Government’s fight against COVID-19.”

Speaking on the initiative, P. Balaji, Chief Regulatory and Corporate Affairs Officer, Vodafone Idea Limited said, “At VIL, we believe in leveraging technology and innovation to find solutions to the pressing problems in the society. Our joint effort with CSC will provide scale to reach 10 Lakh rural population who are in the need to be vaccinated. Our aim is to create a one-stop service solution for the disadvantaged village citizens, vulnerable population and slum dwellers by providing them with services on Covid-19 vaccine registration on a unified digital backbone - CoWin App for an impactful vaccination drive in the country.”

This initiative will give preference to citizens who are underprivileged, who do not have access to Internet/Smartphone or do not know how to operate digital devices. The VLEs will register the citizens directly on CoWin App, map them to local vaccination providers as per the existing process on the App, and schedule their vaccination.

CSC has been identified by National Health Authority and Ministry of Health & Welfare to mobilise and help the citizens for CoWin platform registration. A dedicated team has been setup for regular monitoring of the project wherein all the tracking will be done through a central dashboard made on the CSC Digital Seva Portal. This will include the report generation, grievance handling and daily status tracking. Through the link, beneficiary can download and get the certificate of COVID-19 vaccination from CSC by providing Aadhaar number.

Vodafone Idea Foundation has a long-standing partnership with CSC Academy and has supported deployment of over 30 mobile vans that are taking financial and digital literacy to grassroots level. Since last year, these vans have been also used extensively for promoting COVID-19 appropriate behaviour, dry ration distribution, etc.

OPPO becomes one of the first partners of pan-industry

OPPO becomes one of the first partners of pan-industry
Eco Rating labelling scheme created by leading operators

The leading global smart device brand OPPO takes a new step towards its mission of “Technology for mankind. Kindness for the world” by being one of the first to join a new pan-industry Eco Rating labeling scheme in hopes to create a more sustainable future. Starting from June 2021, this scheme will roll out across Europe to help consumers identify and compare the most sustainable smartphones. Thus, raising awareness of environmental protection and sustainability.

The Eco Rating initiative has been created jointly by five of Europe’s leading mobile operators, respectively Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefónica, Telia Company, and Vodafone. The purpose is to provide truthful and accurate information regarding the environmental impact of the production, usage, transportation, and disposal of smartphones and feature phones.

To support this initiative, as one of the first participators, OPPO also contributed data and insights to help the Eco Rating apply a just, objective, and consistent evaluation methodology composed of 19 different criteria, culminating in a single final score for each device. Following the detailed assessment, each smartphone handset is given an overall Eco Rating score out of a maximum of 100 to demonstrate the environmental performance of the device across its entire life cycle. The Eco Rating label for mobile devices emphasizes five aspects: Durability, repairability, recyclability, climate efficiency, and resource efficiency.

Besides collaborating with industry partners, OPPO holds itself responsible for building a more sustainable world and takes other initiatives to create a better future for everyone. The company now adopts more sustainable production processes, spanning from designing, packaging, upgrading to material processing and more. Compared to 2019, OPPO recycled 13 times more products by weight in 2020. Further speaking, renewable materials play a huge role now. For example, OPPO’s packaging is made from 45% renewable fibres. Meanwhile, OPPO reduced 42.7% of its general waste and 20% indirect greenhouse gas emissions in 2020.

Aside from contributing to creating a healthier environment, these initiatives also help OPPO gain positive recognition from consumers and partners. The company has already achieved considerable market growth and gained footholds in several markets since entering the Western European market three years ago. According to IDC and Canalys, OPPO’s smartphone shipments increased by 153% YoY in Europe, securing its Top 4 position in the region.

When it comes to making meaningful and lasting impacts on sustainability, it requires long-term planning and perseverance. Looking forward, OPPO will continue to work with partners across the industry to contribute more to environment protection and create a brighter future for people worldwide.

OPPO and industry leaders Vodafone, Qualcomm and Ericsson achieve the commercialization of Europe’s first 5G standalone (SA) network

Ÿ   The first commercial 5G standalone (SA) network in Europe will be launched in several German cities

Leading global smart device brand OPPO today announced the successful collaboration between OPPO, Vodafone, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and Ericsson commercializing Europe’s first low-latency, high-speed 5G SA Network in Germany.

Henry Duan, Vice President and President of Smartphones, OPPO,  said: “OPPO is proud to be the only mobile device provider to participate in the commercialization of Europe’s first 5G SA network, fulfilling our commitment as a company to bring cutting-edge technology to our customers. As a pioneer in 5G, OPPO will continue to work with industry leaders to increase access to 5G services and create more unique experiences for our users worldwide.”

To let customers enjoy the enhanced network, OPPO aims to provide a software update to activate SA support on the uber Find X3 premium devices in the coming weeks, ideally within April.

Enjoy low-latency, high-speed connectivity with 5G SA

The commercialization of the first 5G SA commercial network in Europe marks a milestone in the development of 5G in the region. Standalone 5G is a more complete form of 5G network and is the architecture to which all 5G networks will eventually conform. The theoretical latency of 5G SA is as low as 1ms – marking a vast improvement over that of current non-standalone (NSA) 5G at around 20ms.

The enhanced network is also set to unleash the full power of 5G and foster a wide range of innovative 5G applications in the near future. 5G SA will support network slicing, which will allow operators to provide portions of their networks for specific use cases, enabling carriers to provide diversified and services for different needs.

Düsseldorf, Münster, and Leipzig will be the first European cities to receive 5G SA coverage, consumers will be able to enjoy the benefits of the network after receiving OPPO’s software updates on the devices.

OPPO accelerates 5G commercialization through close partnerships

As the only smartphone manufacturer involved in the project, OPPO has worked closely with Vodafone Germany, Qualcomm Technologies, and Ericsson to test the 5G SA network in numerous sites in the three German cities since November 2020.

During the process, Ericsson provided products and solutions from its Ericsson Radio System portfolio and its cloud native 5G Core for standalone networks to help Vodafone build 5G SA networks in Germany. The network was then tested with OPPO’s recently launched Find X3 series premium smartphones powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 888 5G mobile platform.

OPPO is the first smartphone manufacturer to have utilized the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 888 5G mobile platform on a commercial 5G SA network in Europe. Leveraging its expertise in the field, OPPO was heavily involved in the development and testing process with Qualcomm Technologies.

"Our 3.5GHz range 5G network is now completely independent of LTE technology. At initial available locations, it is possible to achieve latency times of 10 to 15 milliseconds – that's as fast as the human nervous system. These ultra-low latency times are now arriving step-by-step to consumers across Germany as we put more and more 5G facilities into operation. Together, we are making 5G Standalone a reality for our customers," explains Vodafone Germany's CTO Gerhard Mack.

"5G standalone brings huge advantages to both industry and consumers. With faster network response times, users can now take advantage of real-time mobile communication. After launching 5G together in Germany, this is the next step in our journey with Vodafone. Combining our technology leadership and drive for innovation with our ecosystem partners OPPO and Qualcomm Technologies, we are delivering next level of 5G, ready for Germany to build their digital future,” said  Arun Bansal, President of Europe and Latin America, at Ericsson.

“Qualcomm Technologies is delighted to join OPPO, Vodafone and Ericsson in this pioneering work to bring a better 5G network to European customers,” said Enrico Salvatori, senior vice president and president, Qualcomm Europe/MEA, Qualcomm Europe, Inc.  “This is a significant milestone not only for Germany but for Europe. 5G standalone is a key step in the 5G evolution and will bring new benefits to consumers and businesses alike and we are proud to have worked with OPPO, Vodafone and Ericsson to make this happen on a commercial 5G device and network. 5G standalone brings fast speeds, greater efficiency, new levels of performance and scalability to 5G."

From 5G NSA to 5G SA: OPPO’s leading innovations in Europe

Back in 2019, OPPO was the first company to launch a 5G NSA commercial smartphone in Europe with the OPPO Reno 5G. This time around with Vodafone, OPPO is ready to lead the industry forward once again, enabling European users to benefit from superior 5G connectivity.

Europe is a key market in OPPO’s global business. Having entered the Western European market three years ago, the company has already achieved considerable market growth and has taken a firm foothold in some national markets. Last year, OPPO officially established its Western European headquarters in Düsseldorf, Germany, at the same time adding new names to its list of markets, such as Italy, Spain, Netherlands, the UK, Switzerland, Poland, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Russia, Germany, Ireland, Romania, Portugal ,and Belgium.

Confident in the prospects of 5G in an age of intelligent connectivity, OPPO has long been working to accelerate the commercialization of 5G across Europe through continued innovation in technology, products ,and services, as well as close collaborations with global partners, including technology providers, telecom operators, research institutions and more. Last year, OPPO worked with Vodafone UK to showcase the first live standalone network in the UK.

Looking forward, OPPO is set to make further investments in the fast-growing European market, contribute more technological innovation to the industry, and bring better products and services to its customers.
