Dr.Mehta’s Hospitals and IIT Madras – HTIC MedTech Incubator (MTI) is jointly conducting a engagement program for 6 weeks which was inaugurated on January 21, 2019 at Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals’ new premises at Velappanchavadi 

Engagement Program was inaugurated by Mr. Sameer Mehta, CEO of Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals. In his  speech he has mentioned all the hurdles faced by the Healthcare Industry. This was followed by a facility tour to provide a deeper understanding of the problem and also giving an opportunity to the participants to identify any other real-time problems faced by the Hospital.

Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals and IIT Madras – HTIC MedTech Incubator (MTI) is jointly conducting a 6 to 8 weeks Engagement program. IIT Madras – HTIC MedTech Incubator (MTI), supported by BIRAC. Healthcare Technology Innovation Centre (HTIC) is a joint initiative by Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) and Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. The focus is to foster and stimulate MedTech innovators, aspiring entrepreneurs and early stage start-ups.

The objective of engagement program is to leverage on HTIC’s research/engineering capabilities and optimize the Dr.Mehta’s clinical expertise to effectively evaluate and implement the most viable solution in healthcare organizations.

In this 6 weeks Engagement Program, the participants will be given 15 days to share a proposal on how they intent to solve the problem solution based on the template. The proposal will be screened by a panel of experts from Dr.Mehtas Hospitals & HTIC committee. The teams will be selected based on their proposed solution and will be called for a pitch their solution and business model to the screening panel.

The selected teams will be pre-incubated at the MedTech Incubator and will be given 6 weeks to build a working prototype. The teams will be supported and guided by Dr. Mehtas Hospitals & HTIC network for their product development throughout the program period.

The teams presenting on the demo day will get to be Incubated at IITM HTIC MedTech Incubator and get to clinically validate and deploy the solution at Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals along with an initial seed fund.

Promising teams also scale their solution and deploy it in other leading Healthcare organizations/units.

The Legacy

Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals was founded in 1933 in Sowcarpet by Dr.Anantrai J Mehta, who had a  vision to setup an institution that was open to all members of the Indian community that focused on consumer safety, affordability and affection in a pre -Independence era. Joined by  Dr.Savitha Ben Mehta, a Gynecologist trained by leading British and Indian Gynecologists in 1940, they relocated and expanded this to a Multi-specialty Surgical and Birthing unit in 1955 at Chetpet, Chennai. Their children Mr. Dilip Mehta, Dr. Usha Shukla  & their  grand children Mr. Sameer Mehta & Dr. Pranav Mehta continue the legacy today .
