Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Tamil Nadu Inaugurates the Covishield Vaccination drive at SIMS Hospital, Vadapalani

·       1500 frontline workers to be administered the COVID 19 vaccination free of cost as part of phase - I of the immunization drive

 

SIMS Hospitals (SRM Institutes for Medical Science), Vadapalani, one of the leading multi specialty hospitals in Chennai, joins India’s biggest vaccination drive against COVID 19 with ‘Covishield’ vaccine, beginning today!

 

Inaugurated by Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, the ‘Covishield’ Vaccine will be provided free of cost to about 1500 healthcare workers as well as frontline workers of SIMS Hospital, in this phase-I of vaccination drive. Using their Government identity cards, health workers can register themselves to avail the free dose of ‘Covishiled’ vaccine. 

 

 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Tamil Nadu said, “Building trust and confidence to motivate people to get vaccinated for good against COVID 19 is very important. I personally got the immunization vaccine administered to emphasize the vaccine’s safety and efficacy. I am truly elated that the health workers who have already got vaccinated against COVID 19 are responding well to the vaccination too. Once the beneficiaries get their first dose of vaccine, they are still required to maintain all COVID 19 safety measures like wearing mask and sanitising their hands and diligently come for their second dose of vaccination without missing it”.

Government Medical College, Omandurar, Chennai, a dedicated centre for COVID-19 patients has implemented a Remote Patient Monitoring Solution from Stasis, a Bangalore- based start-up to manage COVID-19 patients. By allowing medical workers to remotely monitor patients on their smartphone, laptop or central monitors, remote patient monitoring significantly reduces the frequency of contact with suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients, thereby protecting the staff and reducing the requirement for PPEs. 

The USFDA cleared, Made in India remote patient monitoring solution allows doctors to see real-time patient vitals and high-resolution trends on their smartphones or a central dashboard thereby minimizing the exposure to COVID-19 patients. By eliminating manual monitoring by the nurse, it also reduces the exposure of nurses to COVID-19 patients, and reduces the requirement of PPE.

The solution measures six core vitals - Heart rate, SpO2, ECG, respiratory rate, non-invasive blood pressure, and skin temperature. Apollo Children’s Hospitals commemorated World Trauma Day with a Trauma Awareness Campaign at City Schools

On World Trauma Day, Apollo Children's Hospitals, a part of Apollo Hospitals Group, Asia’s largest and most trusted multi-specialty chain of hospitals along with Apollo Shine foundation recognized the “unsung heroes’ of trauma care and emergency services of 108 and 1066. Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, Principal Secretary to the Govt. of Tamil Nadu- Health & Family Welfare Dept, Dr. Ravi, IPS Additional DGP, Tamil Nadu and, Dr. Sathyabhama, Regional Director for Medical Services, Apollo Hospitals gave away awards and mementos to the life savers.

World Trauma Day is marked on 17^th October, every year to showcase the need to prevent deaths and disabilities caused by accidents. Trauma is one of the leading cause of death in India due to lack of immediate medical attention. India accounts for one-fifth of global deaths due to road accidents. One million people are killed and over 20 million hospitalized each year.

In India we see 400 fatalities a day which is 17 per hour with 16 children dying on Indian Roads daily with one death happening every 4 min. 90% of these are due to driver carelessness and only 10% are due to other reasons. 

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Sathyabhama, Regional Director for Medical Services, Apollo Hospitals, said, “Trauma injuries and death is a silent epidemic that we have to tackle, the challenge is the increasing number of emergency cases in Tamil Nadu. Apollo Children’s Hospital and Apollo Shine Foundation – a not for profit student health initiative  together organized a ten day awareness campaign called “Voice of the Students” across the schools in the city to educate motorists on road safety and get them to pledge and abide by traffic and safety rules. Various programs like skits, safety walks holding placards with road safety awareness slogans were organized as a part of the campaign. Post the ten day awareness drive the final award ceremony was organized today in which the heroes of the emergency services and students of participating institutions were recognized with awards and accolades.

As we recognize our emergency caregivers on World Trauma Day, Apollo Hospitals group, recently signed an MOU with Alert, an NGO that that trains common people in emergency management, creating an awareness, imparting skill training of first aid and creating first responders.
