 Flipkart fosters a sustainable value chain to drive responsible
consumption during the Festive Season

Photo Release: Flipkart, India’s home grown e-commerce company is going plastic free for millions of packages along with deploying over 2000 electric vehicles in its delivery fleet prior to the festive season and the Big Billion Days. After successfully eliminating single-use plastic in its own supply chain in July this year, more than 75% of Flipkart’s seller fulfilled shipments are now being processed in sustainable packaging marking a 20x increase over July 2020 covering more than 70 facilities across India.

The increase in adoption rate is a significant outcome of the efforts of teams working with its seller partners, a transition path to gradually adopt sustainable packaging alternatives. The sustainable packaging alternatives were co-created with seller partners to customize designs catering to durability, size constraints and cost efficiency for different product categories.

These 2000 electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers have been deployed across 90 cities in India and will help deliver smiles this festive season sustainably. Earlier this year, the company had committed to deploy 25,000 EVs in its supply chain by 2030 towards its transition to 100% fleet electrification as part of its collaboration with The Climate Group's EV100 campaign.

Some of these cities include Bengaluru, Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Waidhan, Hyderabad, Vidisha, Shajapur, Jhabua, Pune, Sonai, Mysore, Rampur and many more as we continue to build sustainability into every part of our work."

Terra.do launches a course for enthusiasts in the Electric Vehicles & Fleets value chain

As the world is quickly moving towards sustainable living, road transport in India too is open to achieving environment-friendly objectives with a range of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and fleets due on Indian roads soon. Terra.do has launched a six-week course on opportunities and challenges on the upcoming electrification of commercial fleets for the  entrepreneurs, investors, partners, and other professionals dealing with this electric mobility revolution. It includes stellar faculty members, a comprehensive syllabus and networking opportunities among other benefits 

The programme will give a clear overview of the technology, infrastructure, policy, and economics of EVs to all participants.  It is designed for anyone dealing with the impending EV transition at scale from auto industry players to city planners among others.

 

The participants will understand the intricacies of EVs and build an EV transition plan for their organization. Along with this, it will also offer a ready platform for networking with other auto and transit professionals and EV industry leaders over classes that run around 5 hours/week. Participants also get lifelong access to the ever-growing global network of Terra.do climate fellows that range from industry, policy, technology and more.

 

The course is created by Kartik Gopal, Senior Industry Specialist, Electric Vehicles, International Finance Corporation. With over 25 years of global work experience, of which the last 11 years have been in leading roles in the electric vehicle (EV) industry. He currently serves as the global EV industry specialist at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a part of the World Bank Group.

 SIAM to host 13th edition of the Lecture series on
‘Electric Vehicles in India: On-Road Safety,
Operations & Maintenance’

In its endeavour to ‘walk the talk’ about electric mobility in the country, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the auto industry apex body is set to host its 13th Lecture under the aegis of SIAM’s Lecture series 2021 on Electric Vehicles in India: On-Road Safety, Operations & Maintenance on 21st May, 3 PM – 5 PM, on a virtual platform.

This is in continuation with the recently organized 12th Lecture by SIAM on ‘Hybrid & Electric Vehicles in India: Development, Testing & Homologation’ in April this year under the aegis of twin lecture series on xEvs in India.

The lecture will witness in-depth presentations by industry experts on the aforementioned theme. The panel would comprise of Mr Karthick Athmanathan, Professor, IIT Madras, Mr Abhijit Mulay, General Manager, Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Mr Pradeep Kumar, Vice President & Head (Customer Care), Ather Energy, Mr Awadhesh Jha, Vice President, Fortum India, Mr Arindam Lahiri, CEO, Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) and Mr Vikram Gulati, Co-Chairman, SIAM Electric Mobility Group & Sr VP & National Head, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

Mr Sushant Naik, Co-Chairman, SIAM Electric Mobility Group & Global Head, Government Affairs, TATA Motors will set the context for the discussion. The session will be hosted by Mr Prashant K Banerjee, Executive Director, SIAM.

The 13th lecture will cover the broader aspects on EV aftermarket services and customers’ delight, EV battery safety design aspects and maintenance, EV charging safety and consumers’ awareness, skilling for EV maintenance and EV buses operational eco-system.

 SIAM to host its 12th Lecture Series on Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India: Development, Testing & Homologation

After the grand success of Global Electrification Mobility Summit 2020 held in conjunction with Auto Expo – The Motor Show 2020 and Future Mobility Summit 2021, the auto industry apex body, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) is taking its ‘walk the talk’ campaign of electric mobility, forward. In this context, SIAM will be hosting a lecture on Hybrid & Electric Vehicles in India: Development, Testing & Homologation on 26th April, 3 pm - 5 pm, on a virtual platform.

The intent of the lecture is to drill down into the technical aspects of development, testing and homologation of hybrid and electric vehicles. The lecture will be conducted in two sessions. The first session would comprise of a panel discussion with eminent industry leaders from India and around the world discussing on the theme “Electric Vehicles for India & Technology Adoption” and will witness participation from Mr Mahesh Babu, Chairman, SIAM Electric Mobility Group, Mr Nitin Seth, COO, Switch Mobility, Ashok Leyland, Dr Raji Mathai, Director, ARAI , Mr Claas Bracklo, Senior Consultant Electromobility, VDA & Chairman, Char.IN (Germany), Mr Kannan Subramanian Vittilapuram ,Head, Project House Electrification, Bosch Automotive Electronics India and others to give a broader perspective on the theme.

The second session of the lecture would be technical presentations/papers from JBM Auto, TATA Motors, Toyota Kirloskar Motor etc. and will be on the theme “Drill down of Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Homologation”.

The 12th lecture series will highlight the importance of testing and evaluation standards and homologation aspects of electric two-wheelers, four-wheelers & buses thereby making a deep dive into what it entails to be an electrified automobile to be road-worthy and suave performance.

EESL to procure 250 Electric Vehicles

EESL to procure 250 Electric Vehicles from TATA Motors Limited & Hyundai
Motor India Ltd

 Tata Motors Limited to supply 150 Nexon XZ+ electric compact SUVs & Hyundai Motor India Ltd.  to supply 100 units of its Kona electric Premium SUVs

EESL presented the letter of award for the tender to Tata Motors Ltd & Hyundai Motor India Ltd.

 Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Super Energy Service Company (ESCO) under the administrative control of Ministry of Power, Government of India, will procure 250 electric vehicles from Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor India. The companies were selected through an international competitive bidding process, which was aimed at increased participation. Tata Motors Limited and Hyundai Motor India Limited won the tender and now will supply 150 Nexon electric compact SUVs & 100 Kona electric premium SUVs respectively for government use. The letter of award for the procurement was presented to the two companies, in the presence of Mr. Guenter Butschek, CEO & MD, Tata Motors, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors and Mr. Tarun Garg, Director – Sales, Marketing & Service, Hyundai Motor India Ltd.




This procurement will utilize 5 Million USD from the recent grant provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). EESL has received financing from ADB towards the cost of scaling up and financing high priority areas like Demand Side Energy Efficiency Sector Projects.

Mr. Saurabh Kumar, Executive Vice Chairperson, EESL said, “A shift to EVs, facilitated by our e-mobility programme will reduce dependence on oil imports and promote power capacity addition in India. This will greatly enhance the energy security of the country and will also lead to reduction in GHG emissions from the transport sector. Furthermore, we’re also working on rapid establishment of EV charging stations, which will give a fillip to the electric vehicle sales, going forward”

EESL is driven by the objective of facilitating faster adoption of disruptive technology solutions, while balancing economic development and environmental sustainability. With this specific initiative, EESL seeks to create the market for electric vehicles, through its unique business model of aggregation of demand and bulk procurement. EESL is seeking to leverage the immense potential of replacement of existing vehicles in the government departments for initial demand aggregation.

EESL will procure Tata Nexon at INR 14.86 lakh each, INR 13,000 cheaper than its ex-showroom price of INR 14.99 lakh whereas, Hyundai Kona, which offers a higher range, will be procured at an 11% lower price band of INR 21.36 lakh and with a standard three-year warranty. These electric vehicles will replace the existing fleet of petrol and diesel vehicles of the Central and State Governments. EESL has already received an order for 300 Long Range EVs from The Agency for Non-Conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT), Kerala to be supplied in initial phase.

EESL plans to leverage efficiencies of scale and drive down costs through its innovative business model, while supporting local manufacturing facilities, gaining technical competencies for the long-term growth of the EV industry and enabling Indian EV manufacturers to emerge as major global players.
