NITT Inauguration Report on 20th National Power
Systems Conference NPSC -2018 held today at NIT, Tiruchirappalli.
The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, National
Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, conducted the inaugural
function for its event, “20th National Power Systems Conference,
NPSC-2018 with the theme “Towards a Sustainable Energy Future through
Efficient, Smart and Green Technologies” from 14th to 16th December
2018.
The conference began with the lighting of lamp and
welcome address by Prof. C.Nagamani, General chair, NPSC-2018 and then
Prof.S.C Srivastava, Chairman, National core standing committee NPSC.
He elaborated about the achievements of the department. The Director,
Prof.Mini Shaji Thomas then took over and spoke about the need to aim
our research toward a social motive, and the need to bind industries
and institutes. Shri KVS Baba Chairman and Managing Director, Power
System Operation Corporation (POSOCO) shared his views on energy
conservation and environmental management briefly and addressed the
gathering. Dr. Saifur Rahman President, IEEE Power & Energy Society
(PES) and Director, Advanced Research Institute, Virginia Tech, USA
delivered the inaugural address.
Academic excellence award-NPSC 2018 was given to Prof.Bhim Singh, IIT
Delhi. Industry Excellence Award-NPSC 2018 was given to K.Rajamani,
Chief Consultant, M/s. Adani Electricity, Mumbai, Ltd. Malaviya
Excellence Award in Power System-2018 was given to Prof.S.C.
Srivastava, IIT Kanpur. Conference souvenir was released by Shri KVS
Baba in the inaugural function. Vote of thanks was delivered by Prof.
Kumaresan, Convenor NPSC-2018.
Prof. Saifur Rahman has delivered the inaugural keynote speech on “A
smart city and its attributes”.He addressed a strong Industry
Institute interaction by providing a platform for researchers and
engineers from Academia, Industry and Utility to exchange their ideas,
and experiences and present solutions found for actual and future
problems. India is the Second largest IEEE membership next to the
USA.IEEE members need to address societal contributions. This
conference will help us to solve solutions to existing power sector
scenarios. He also stated the importance of the smart grid in the
present power sector.
The conference was well attended by eminent academicians, faculty
members and students from reputed technical and educational
institutions from different parts of the country and representatives
of governmental bodies and industry.
