PRAGYAN 2019 Day 1 Report - Dr. Montek Singh,Dr.Alwyn Didar Singh,Dr.Frederick J. Raab, GL, Anne Klinge and Graham Maxwell infotainment,Jalyaan event,Pragyan Premier League Auction etc.,
After the spectacular beginning that was Day 0, Day 1 commenced with the start of a host of events, workshops, exhibits and guest lectures.
Among the events were, Mortar Master, a concrete casting competition with over 40 finalists taking part in the event. Participants were required to design a concrete mix and cast three concrete blocks within the specified restrictions. Contestants were judged on the basis of the weight of the blocks, design reports and oral briefing.
The event was judged by Dr J Karthikeyan, an assistant professor in the Civil Department. The event was sponsored by Ultratech cement and the event partner was ACE update.
Furthermore, the auction for the final round of the Pragyan Premier League had started with the auctioneers ensuring that the auction, did not have a single dull moment, whilst maintaining decorum as well.
At 11:00 AM, a 250 strong audience were treated to a very informative guest lecture by Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia. Also present were the Director, Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas, Dean- Students Welfare, Dr. Samson
Mathew and faculty members and students of different colleges. In his insightful lecture, Mr. Singh touched upon 4 key aspects of slogans, targets, programs, and policy in the context of planning and governance. He related about his experience on working in the development of the 12th 5-year plan, and how quantitative metrics used
were principally focussed on growth rate. He concluded by stressing the importance of adoption of newer technologies and make the best use of it.
The afternoon guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Alwyn Didar Singh, an expert in the field of e-Commerce, Trade and Migration. He touched upon employment in India and the distribution of the Indian workforce.
Regarding the scope for future endeavors, he stressed upon the quartet of Agriculture, Defence, Digital and Cleancare, being pivotal to development. He put light to the issue of underemployment hindering
our nation’s growth. On a concluding note, he shed light to the issue of underemployment hindering our nation’s growth.
The inauguration for Sangam and Ingenium was also held today with the finalists for the competitions setting up to their stalls to explain their innovative products. Their zest and zeal impressed a number of
viewers and was definitely a step in the direction of setting up a entrepreneurial culture. A number of enthusiastic students turned up on Day 1, for the wide array of workshops that Pragyan, NIT Trichy had to offer.
One of them was a workshop on the “Six Sigma Yellow Belt” was conducted at the NIT Tech Arena, for those interested in this improvement methodology to eliminating defects in products and other
aspects of quality management. ISRO conducted a workshop on Image Processing of Satellite Data. The workshop aimed to give the participants a basic understanding of image processing and satellite
imagery. Recent advancements along with the application of fuzzy logic and neural networks were covered in the afternoon session.
Furthermore, a workshop on application development was conducted for those interested in learning the basic as well advanced levels of programming languages. Organised by JetBrains at the Computer annexure, this workshop was mainly conducted for students from the computer science department, as well as for students who have a passion for programming and application development. Last but not the least, an interactive workshop, titled ‘Applications of Machine Learning’ was conducted in association with Microsoft.
With more interesting events, guest lectures, workshops and more scheduled over the span of the next three days, Pragyan 2019 is definitely set to bloom into a spectrum of beautiful colours. The three days of the fest promise to live up to its motto and bestow success to the hard work of every individual involved
